On Amazon as well for the same price.
Why can't the 27" go on sale. I missed the last BestBuy one a month ago, I wasn't planning on building a computer/going for such an expensive monitor. Now I have all my parts except for a monitor. Can't decide on which to get, and can't get in on the limited stock Refurb ones either.
Anyone have suggestions? Regarding the 27" Dell, the Asus or the Acer?
It's also this price on Amazon if you prefer them over Newegg. Have 5% back on Discover card for Amazon so I went with that
They make a 24" version that is several hundo cheaper if you're looking for max affordability. But the 27" is great.
Dell 2417dg is one of the best choice (I just got mine).
165hz - G-sync - 24" 2k (1440p) - 1 ms (of course) -
TN panel ---> but check some reviews it as one of the best color accuracy and viewing angles compared to shitty Benq 1080p monitors.
399$ in amazon US atm this is honestly the best monitor fast and optimized for gaming, but still great for movies.
I’m in a similar situation, and I was actually looking at the Dell S2417DG YNY1D. It’s not an IPS panel (I believe), but since you have an Nvidia card, you’ll be able to utilize Gsync.
I found it for ~$400 on Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/Dell-S2417DG-24-Inch-LED-Lit-Monitor/dp/B01IOO4SGK
Amazon has it too: https://www.amazon.com/Dell-S2417DG-YNY1D-24-Inch-LED-Lit/dp/B01IOO4SGK
Amazon says LED but Im not sure. If you have an Amazon Prime card, you can get the 5% cash back bringing this monitor to 380 + tax? Though, Im sure youll have to pay tax for BestBuy too.
Hey I don’t wanna be that guy but the dell monitor you have listed usually goes on sale for around 330-375$ brand new on amazon and at local Best Buy’s. Maybe adjust the price just a little if you want s better chance if it selling. I have the same monitor btw and known it’s usually listed as like 450 or something but they go on sale all the time. I’d say 250-275 is a little more reasonable but it’s up to you ;)
It'll be a great upgrade for you. I did the same and it really does "feel" better to have the faster refresh rate.
I bought the Dell Gaming S2417DG monitor. It's $380-ish on Amazon right now and fits all your criteria, plus it has G-Sync. I don't know what GPU you have, but if it's Nvidia then I definitely suggest this monitor. Great stuff.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01IOO4SGK/ref=oh_aui_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I believe he's talking about the S2417DG. It does go down to $350 regularly for the 24 inch, sometimes even below, but it looks to be $400 on amazon right now.
I used to own this monitor, and while it's bang-for-buck on paper, the colors weren't great (expected of a TN panel), there was noticeable light bleed, and sometimes the display would flicker when GSYNC was on while gaming. That being said, it's still a great gaming monitor with very low latency.
this is what i use, bought it for US $325 when it was on sale on amazon. great monitor i have zero complaints and who could argue with that price for 1440p, GSYNC, and 165hz! (144hz overclocked to 165hz)
A while ago a few people said the top review on Amazon is really helpful for better color.
I got this one:
But it was on sale for 325 when I got it (Used like new from amazon warehouse)
I just picked this up on Amazon from a 3rd party vendor with a 94% rating here: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01IOO4SGK/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I got it for $345.54 ($369.99 - $10 gift card reload credit - $14.45 5% rewards, no tax)
still on sale for $370 on amazon, highly recommend. it's AMAZING for CS:GO
So I have had great experience with this Dell monitor and I have found that the black levels while gaming and watching movies have been pretty good for it being a monitor. As for the need for 4k in my opinion, noticing the difference between 1440p and true 4k quality is pretty slim. Not to mention the hit on your fps while processing that 4k resolution for your games. A big plus with this monitor as well, is that it has g-sync which is a major seller for me beings the fact that I have nvidia cards and it improves that latency factor in gaming. Take a look at this monitors specs to see if it can be a great fit for you! Dell Monitor
There are hardly any or none. I searched for the same and the one I found was a Dell S2417DG. I think they stopped making 1440p monitor under 24 inch category.
Good questions. I can't recall the height and weight. Through Midjourney it was just the default size. Then with IMG12IMG in SD, it was 1400x600. After I just used Gigapixel to increase it 6x. My screen is wide but not a superwide one. I believe this is mine: https://www.amazon.com/Dell-Monitor-S2417DG-24-Inch-Response/dp/B01IOO4SGK
I can pretty confidently say that you would LOVE going from 27-->24 inch, IF you stayed at 1440p. The problem is, there's very few 1440p monitors at that size. 24 inch 1080p is a different issue. Your performance will improve but clarity will go down.
https://www.amazon.com/Dell-Monitor-S2417DG-24-Inch-Response/dp/B01IOO4SGK?th=1
I have the 27 inch version, which is amazing, but I just noticed the 24 inch version is 60hz.. bummer. I'd recommend it if you're fine with 60hz
It was one of these but ok. Dell Gaming Monitor S2417DG YNY1D 24-Inch Screen LED-Lit TN with G-SYNC, QHD 2560 x 1440, 165Hz Refresh Rate, 1ms Response Time, 16:9 Aspect Ratio https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01IOO4SGK/ref=cm_sw_r_awdo_navT_g_86P269RGY5MF5SAZK8AA
I have a similar rig but older cpu series. I have an i7-7700 and 3070 and can easily run 1440p on any games. The framerate varies but guaranteed 60+, most esport titles easily 144fps. My monitor is Dell Gaming S2417DG YNY1D 24-Inch Screen LED-Lit Monitor with G-SYNC https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01IOO4SGK/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apip_ihxtiwiLr9MyW and its really good in my opinion, have had it for 3 years and never experienced anything funky with it.
I bought a Dell 24in 165hz monitor on sale for about $460 2 years ago. I would highly recommend this monitor. It's stunning quality. Maybe try and find one on sale or used! Good luck.
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01IOO4SGK/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_glt_i_1DMH6ZK9MA12R7AVH82N
Hello all. I recently got an Xbox series X. I currently have this Dell monitor.
My problem seems to be that my hdmi port is 1.4 and I need an hdmi 2.1 port in order to take full advantage of the series x. I don’t need 4K, but the monitor can do 1440p at 120hz and that’s what I’d like to do. Is there any dongle or something that you guys know of that could help me achieve this? Thanks so much!
FYI you can get this for $369 any day if you’ve got Amazon Prime
Dell Gaming Monitor S2417DG YNY1D 24-Inch Screen LED-Lit TN with G-SYNC, QHD 2560 x 1440, 165Hz Refresh Rate, 1ms Response Time, 16:9 Aspect Ratio https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01IOO4SGK/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_B4l2AbZPDBGK0
You won't find a new Gsync monitor for under $300..
But there's a 24" 1440p TN Gsync 165hz monitor for $379 on Amazon.
Probably the best pricing you'll see for such a monitor.. at least until the 4k Gsync monitors start to saturate the market. Then you should see 1080p and 1440p monitor prices tank. And possibly Gsync 1 prices will lower when they announce Gsync 2.
The colors on TN monitors are usually problematic but this one has half decent colors out of the box, then you just download an icc color profile online in less than a minute and activate it, and boom, awesome colors. Viewing angles aren't gonna matter since the screen will be right in front of you anyway when you're using it.
So I definitely recommend this monitor.
I got myself the Dell s2417dg from Amazon a few months ago when it was on sale (from what I saw the monitor goes on constant sales every Month) and I think I paid 350$ for it and another 350$ foe shipping (because I live in Africa and tax is heavy) but even at that price it's amazing. It's a TN panel but you wouldn't know it at first glance. The colors don't shift even at wide angles. It has gsync, 144hz and very very good build quality. It's not a budget monitor by any means and you know it when you use it. If you cab splurge a little bit, I can highly recommend it as long as your pc can run it well. https://www.amazon.com/Dell-Gaming-S2716DGR-LED-Lit-Monitor/dp/B01IOO4SGK.
Dell S2417DG is pretty great. I’ve had it for almost a year now and it’s excellent. Also overclocks to 165hz easily. $325 on amazon
https://www.amazon.com/Dell-Monitor-S2417DG-24-Inch-Response/dp/B01IOO4SGK
Might not be the best value as I’m not sure what other 1440p 144hz monitors are priced at, but this is a great monitor.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01IOO4SGK/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o08_s00?ie=UTF8&th=1
The 27' one frequently goes on sale for like $350. Might want to keep your eyes peeled if this one goes on sale too. I've used the 27' one and only stopped cause I upgraded to a 4k monitor but it does everything well and I had no issues with it.
24-inch 1440p Monitors - Why so Rare?
I really want a 24-inch monitor...
144hz+ Refresh Rate 1ms Response Time 2560x1440
Why is that so hard to find? The only one I've been able to find is a Dell that's over 3 years old
Is there any better option for what I'm looking for?

At 300 you cant find a monitor like that. Youd probably have to get to around the $400+ range
Without g sync: AOC CQ27G1 AOC CQ27G2 Samsung CJG56
Are what I found for 27 inch, 1440p, 144hz monitors
You may consider: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01IOO4SGK?tag=globalnetwork-20&linkCode=ogi&th=1&psc=1
$80 over your limit and its 24 inches. But it has gsync and goes up to 165hz. Not sure how you feel about TN vs IPS tho. Personally I'm IPS for everything but I mainly play single player games.
Or there is the LG 27GL83A-B. Its exactly what you're looking for but is $150 over your budget. It's the cheapest I could find.
I bought this in 2017 and it is such a great monitor! I have had zero complaints and nothing but good experiences. I do think it’s gone up in price since I bought it, though.
Dell Gaming Monitor S2417DG YNY1D 24-Inch Screen LED-Lit TN with G-SYNC, QHD 2560 x 1440, 165Hz Refresh Rate, 1ms Response Time, 16:9 Aspect Ratio https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01IOO4SGK/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_pfimFbXDDC7JH
I own the Dell s2417DG monitor. It’s 144HZ, 1440p, and has gsync all for the cost of ~$400. I’m not too sure about the other options but this is what I have and im very satisfied with my purchase. Ill drop a link here if I can.
Not on your list but I think it’s an honorable mention: Dell Gaming Monitor S2417DG YNY1D 24-Inch Screen LED-Lit TN with G-SYNC, QHD 2560 x 1440, 165Hz Refresh Rate, 1ms Response Time, 16:9 Aspect Ratio https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01IOO4SGK/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_YobmFb1JX0ZGS
I own this monitor and have no complaints. Only “negative” is that it is a TN panel. Not G-sync certified but it is compatible, can confirm. Very happy with the purchase for the price. I see you’re EU though so idk how prices compare.
What website? Found on Amazon for like $350
Dell Gaming Monitor S2417DG YNY1D 24-Inch Screen LED-Lit TN with G-SYNC, QHD 2560 x 1440, 165Hz Refresh Rate, 1ms Response Time, 16:9 Aspect Ratio https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01IOO4SGK/ref=cm_sw_r_other_apa_i_HIANEbAVTS1F1
I’d get this one, it’s REALLY good and has amazing specs for the price. Only thing is that it’s 3 inches smaller than what you want. It does have a 27” version on Amazon but the 24” one is 100 dollars under your limit. Hope this helps!
https://www.amazon.com/Dell-Monitor-S2417DG-24-Inch-Response/dp/B01IOO4SGK
The build looks really solid! With that good case airflow the dark rock pro 4 should handle overclocking really well. The best gaming overclock would be on your GPU. Look into MSI Afterburner and it's auto OC scanner. It works really well at getting you a stable GPU OC.
As for a really good 1440p monitor I have a Dell S2417DG 1440p 165hz, 1ms response time with Nvidia GSYNC. It is amazing. Absolutely beautiful with no blur or tearing with GSYNC. And it's only $319! (Lol I spent $360 on mine back in January) https://www.amazon.com/Dell-Monitor-S2417DG-24-Inch-Response/dp/B01IOO4SGK
I don't really know too much about the cheaper options other than the Dell 27in 1440p monitor: https://www.amazon.com/Dell-Monitor-S2417DG-24-Inch-Response/dp/B01IOO4SGK/ref=sr_1_4?crid=1EKBWZJERYOS7&keywords=dell+144hz+monitor&qid=1567992562&s=gateway&sprefix=dell+14%2Caps%2C195&sr=8-4
27in 1440p 144hz TN panel. Viewing angles and colors won't be as good as the IPS versions. People say once its calibrated it's not that bad. Best Buy sometimes has this monitor on display, you might be able to check it out there.
Dell Gaming Monitor S2417DG YNY1D 24-Inch Screen LED-Lit TN with G-SYNC, QHD 2560 x 1440, 165Hz Refresh Rate, 1ms Response Time, 16:9 Aspect Ratio https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01IOO4SGK/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_aHgwDb0MBDAV5
Easily the best bang for buck. I have this and it’s incredible.
Hey dude,
What do you think about this monitor for my set up?
Dell Gaming Monitor S2417DG YNY1D 24-Inch Screen LED-Lit TN with G-SYNC, QHD 2560 x 1440, 165Hz Refresh Rate, 1ms Response Time, 16:9 Aspect Ratio https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01IOO4SGK/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_MpqSCbQT5QBQM
This is a really good deal based on the specs (1440p, 165hz, 1ms response, GSync) https://www.amazon.com/Dell-Monitor-S2417DG-24-Inch-Response/dp/B01IOO4SGK/ref=mp_s_a_1_4?crid=6NCCAFAHQVB1&keywords=1440p+gsync&qid=1556209909&s=gateway&sprefix=1440p+g&sr=8-4
I do agree. I have this https://www.amazon.com/Dell-Monitor-S2417DG-24-Inch-Response/dp/B01IOO4SGK/ref=mp_s_a_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1548785696&sr=8-2&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_FMwebp_QL65&keywords=dell+144hz&dpPl=1&dpID=516nHkdfoPL&ref=plSrch next to a VA panel and I definitely notice the color quality difference. But I found some decent calibration for that one online, it's not too bad. I'm happy with that monitor though, it runs like a dream
This is a DELL LED 24 inch, but 1440p at 144Hz up to 165Hz OC w/ G-SYNC. https://www.amazon.com/Dell-Monitor-S2417DG-24-Inch-Response/dp/B01IOO4SGK/ref=asc_df_B01IOO4SGK/?tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=309779531175&hvpos=1o3&hvnetw=g&hvrand=3857842670212557186&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&a... - Going for like $360
Looking to get a 1440p monitor The Dell S2417DG looks like a good deal and was just wondering if anyone can vouch for the color quality or anything else about the monitor. Any help is appreciated!
I absolutely LOVE My Dell but it is definitely priced higher than the others recommended. I previously owned the AOC but a lightning storm murdered it in cold blood and I decided to splurge for the Gsync. https://www.amazon.com/Dell-Monitor-S2417DG-24-Inch-Response/dp/B01IOO4SGK/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1548718010&sr=8-1&keywords=dell+gsync+144hz
So the dream monitor for you would be a 1440p 144hz g-sync monitor.
Quite pricy, but this is the one I'd recommend: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01IOO4SGK/?tag=pcpapi-20
If I were you I wouldn't buy a new monitor until I could afford a monitor with those 3 specs (144hz 1440p g-sync) because it will be perfect for the forseeable future, allowing your computer to make full use of its power and giving you both a great immersive experience and a much better competitive shooter experience.
G-sync if you get an nvidia video card. Swap that for free-sync if you get an AMD video card
Is this only capable when doing an eGPU setup? What setup do you have to attain 160hz on your Mac Mini?

Edit: What other monitors can you recommend aside from your Dell Gaming Monitor S2417DG?
Edit2: Is the TN Panel the only way to have more FPS on a monitor?
Thank you! This monitor S2417DG YNY1D didn't show up in any of my searches. It looks like it is VESA mount compatible and g-sync is a bonus. Now to see if I can find three of them at a better price!
I have the same gpu as you but an i5 8400 cpu. I was looking at a Dell 1440p monitor because I will eventually upgrade my gpu and cpu. Nothing wrong with getting more monitor than you need. You can grow into it lol. Someone told me 1440p at 24 inch isn’t good and I should go 27 but I still think this is not a bad deal.
Dell Gaming Monitor S2417DG YNY1D 24-Inch Screen LED-Lit TN with G-SYNC, QHD 2560 x 1440, 165Hz Refresh Rate, 1ms Response Time, 16:9 Aspect Ratio https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01IOO4SGK/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_Sz81Bb3AH3HJF
This is my monitor recommendation. The refresh rate is up to 165hz, it's 1440p and it has 1ms response time. Pair that with the fact that it has pretty good colors and the bezels are some of the thinnest out there and you have a monitor that is super hard to top at this price point and much higher price points too for that matter. I've had mine for a couple of years now and its one of my favorite additions to my computer build hands down.
Those ASUS are probably considered the best. The MG is the newer model, but everyone also loves the VG.
The BenQ monitor is nearly of the same quality. I believe the P versions is the new panel, idk if they make the Z model anymore.
AOC monitors are generally cheaper and of less quality.
I guess it all depends your budget. Plus, the 1440p 144hz gsync dell monitors also go on sale for $300~350 regularly, so I'd look into those if your selected monitors are pushing ~$300
https://www.amazon.com/Dell-Monitor-S2417DG-24-inch-Response/dp/B01IOO4SGK?th=1
Dell has a 1440p 165 hz g sync monitor that u can find for around 400 if you look around enough.
lol. To put things in perspective, the frame time between frames for 60Hz is 16.7ms. For 144Hz, it's ~7ms. For 240Hz, it's 4.16ms. So the difference from 60Hz to 144Hz is much greater than 240Hz and you'll only experience a slight difference. From accounts of people that can tell the difference, they say it only helps a little bit with turning. And not to mention, the only games you'll achieve these framerates in are CS:GO and Overwatch.
In the end, it comes down to personal preference. Since I'm going to be doing a lot more programming in university I think I'd prefer the QHD monitor. If I upgrade, this is the monitor I'm getting.
That monitor has a TN panel but I'm comparing my current TN panel with the UltraWide's IPS and the only noticeable difference is the viewing angle, which is something I'm not concerned about. So I won't be spending an extra $300 for an IPS panel.
You're barking up the right tree here, good thinking.
1440p 144hz available in 24" and 27"
/r/monitors for the true experts and more advice on monitors.
Personally I'd say 240hz isn't worth it BUT I'm happy on 100hz right now.
You're better off asking /r/overwatch and /r/csgo !
my other advice is this, from years building and playing PC games: optimize for the games you play most. Put tons of time into CS:GO? consider a 240hz 1080p monitor if those subs say it's worth it. I suspect they'll say its not. Or overwatch might say no and csgo will say yes ahahahah
It's this Dell 24in 1440p monitor, I know it's not a fair comparison at all, but the difference is worth the extra cash imo. Plus I went from having a AMD gpu to a Nvidia GPU so the freesync -> G-Sync made sense.
I've been thinking about getting the Dell S2417DG. It's 1440p, 165 Hz, and has g-sync. I think it's a little old, but Dell monitors are known for their quality. Since it is a bit older now, it's a bit cheaper than most of the newer ones. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01IOO4SGK/?coliid=IEIT2KAK7E80O&colid=NYK2BNN4GXZB&psc=0&ref_=lv_ov_lig_dp_it
nice system! what gpu usage are you getting? how much ram do you have? ssd or HDD?
I'm going to guess you are playing at 1080p? If so, this resolution will make you more cpu limited in games. This game is very cpu dependent so even more so.
You could try overclocking your cpu more but this depends on your cooling & ambient temperatures, motherboard etc, many factors.
My other suggestion is to move to 1440p, this will shift you from being cpu limited to gpu limited. 1070ti can handle 1440p with no problems. This is the best/lowest cost 1440p gsync monitor:
https://www.amazon.com/Dell-Monitor-S2417DG-24-Inch-Response/dp/B01IOO4SGK
For some more information, I built my current pc a few years ago, it has a R9-390, I5-6600k and 16GB ram. I will not be able to transport it with me to college. I will be able to bring with me my current mouse, keyboard, speakers etc. I just want a desktop with similar performance that can do some gaming and schoolwork. My laptop will be strictly for schoolwork and i do not plan to do any gaming on it. Just found this monitor that i think looks like a good fit
I might be able to go for a bit more on the monitor if I can save up enough. Opinions on this one? It's a 165Hz
ok all plugged in and set up will now test again so far everythings great the moment i set it to 144hz i noticed it. Also if you didnt know its on amazon for $369 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01IOO4SGK/ref=twister_B01N5DR9U9?_encoding=UTF8&th=1
will be back with more information
Alright, i've done some research and the backlight is "TN / W-LED edge array" and my monitor model is https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01IOO4SGK/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1. I'd prefer not to RMA, but I will if i have to. Also if my backlight did go out would I have hear something? I didn't hear any noise, my screen just started blinking and finally went dim.
While true, i think a 1440p 144hz would have be a better buy for future proofing like the Dell S2417DG (24", 1440p, 144hz, gsync) unless you really are a pro csgo player. I personally wont be buying another 1080p monitor and wouldn't advise someone else too unless you can't afford it
Spending >$400 on a 1080p monitor seems really dumb. For the same price or less you can score a Dell S2417DG. You're also dealing with a 27" 1080p display, which can look a bit pixelated due to the sheer size of the monitor and lower pixel density.
I'm also not at all a fan of curved displays, but that's personal preference.
Not sure if this is factoring into your budget but the monitor you have selected is a freesync monitor meaning it's meant to work with amd rather than nvidia. It will still work but you may run into so screen tearing issues. I did the same thing and ordered the hp Omen (freesync) for my 1070ti, ended up having to return it because it was killing me to see the screen tearing on something i spent this much on. If possible i would look into a monitor with g-sync (built for Nvidia). My suggestion would be here: https://www.amazon.com/Dell-S2417DG-24-Inch-LED-Lit-Monitor/dp/B01IOO4SGK/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1515020615&sr=8-1&keywords=dell+s2417dg
I loved playing on it before my GPU died.
EDIT: Forget everything I said then.
Depends! I don’t normally recommend TN panels. This monitor is a great option! It’s IPS so better color and viewing angles. G-Sync makes the panel sync with a GTX 1070 so there’s no tearing at all even at high FPS.
This one looks so nice but it's more than twice what I payed for my other monitor, not sure what to do.
Doesn't this seem like a better deal? (if you don't care about size)
It's LED so more colors
I'm looking to use this 165hz 1440p g-sync monitor at full potential in my build https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01IOO4SGK/?tag=pcpapi-20
Currently looking at the 1070 ti or possibly waiting for the new cards to release. My question is which processors will run this setup at full potential for gaming? I really want the i7-8700k but I'm over budget so may not get there. Am I good with the i5-8600k or ryzen 1700? Or are they lacking?
The pictures you are showing dont match the pictures for the S2417DG found on Newegg and Amazon
Is that dell monitor better than the Aser one i linked? Because if so, its only 519.99 + Free shipping on Amazon through a third party seller.
Monitor is a long-term investment.Get a 1440P 165HZ with G-Sync monitor. You get to enjoy the best of both worlds. I run AAA games on high settings with 2x MSAA if needed and get around 100fps
This is the monitor I'm currently using: Dell S2417DG
For G-Sync at that price range, I think the Dell S2417DG is your best option.
There is a 27" version, but I wouldn't recommend it, as it has more issues than the 24" (The 27" has more washed out colors, more color banding, and some noticeable overshoot ghosting on certain color transitions, all while being more expensive most of the time)
I'd reccommend this Dell. Pixel density on the 24" screen is nice, but if you prefer larger theres a 27" for $100 more. It is the most inexpensive 1440p monitor with g-sync I've seen, and I really can't go back from g-sync myself.
Colors are kinda washed out out of the box, but tuning the desktop color settings and the monitor settings will make it look really nice.
This is the monitor. I absolutely love it. Kinda wish I had gotten the 27" version only because I have the space on my desk. As far as 2K monitors go, there isn't a better one on the market. If you have the desk space and the extra money, I would spring for the 27". But all in all I have been incredibly satisfied. Since its got G-SYNC, Nvidia makes it seamless to configure game settings and optimize things.
Or you can get an even cheaper 1440p 165hz panel with Gsync and have an actually good GPU upgrade path. But you should know that 1080p looks like blurry shit on 1440p panel.
I have this one. I love it. The bezels are super thin as well. It's a TN panel, but I'm a normal person and sit up straight when I game, so it's not an issue for me. It's also significantly below your budget.
Edit: the colors on it can seem washed when you first turn it on, but adjusting the monitor/nvidia settings to your liking will make it beautiful. And I have a 1070 as well, btw.
my budget is in the $400 to $700 dollar range.
This is a monitor that I have been looking at. https://www.amazon.com/Dell-S2417DG-YNY1D-24-Inch-LED-Lit/dp/B01IOO4SGK/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1502163930&sr=8-2&keywords=1440p%2B144hz%2Bmonitor&th=1
https://www.amazon.com/Dell-S2417DG-YNY1D-24-Inch-LED-Lit/dp/B01IOO4SGK
That's what I use with an OC'd 980ti and a OC'd 6600k.
I tend to drop a some useless settings down a tad but I average at least 120 frames on BF1, R6 Seige, and Titanfall 2. PUBG struggles to even touch 100 even as I start turning things to low settings.
A lot of people will say yes to bigger screens, but I don't agree with that. Personally I love my Dell S2417DG (24", TN Panel, 1440p 144hz) which I got for $400.
I kinda ended up preferring the more compact screen, since it's more dense and everything looks just a little crisper. If you have bad eyesight, then you might need to use the scaler to 125%, but I didn't have to.
Closest you'll get with G-Sync. It's only 24" and uses a TN panel. I'd recommend getting an IPS one but those are over $700 (it's worth it as an investment IMO since it's going to last a long time before getting outdated). The 27" version would be better but it's ridiculously over-priced ATM.
I have two of those monitors. They look fine. You will have to adjust the color settings in nvidia control panel though. The default setup doesn't look that great. The top reviews here have some good settings to use.
I have the Dell you mentioned. Actually liked it so much, I bought another one. If you look at the first review on Amazon, the reviewer gives a pretty good settings adjustment on the Nvidia control panel to adjust the colors. I did that with my current one and it looks great.
Thank you so much for your help! From what I've gathered from you and other people who have responded to this, it seems that the Ryzen 5 1400 would actually be better for 1440p. Would a 1080 paired with this monitor be a good fit?
Would a 1070 be good enough for that monitor, or it it pretty much necessary to have a 1080 for 1440p@144hz?
I have the S2716DG and have had it for just over a year now with no issues; never bought a warranty (don't know if it came with one, can't remember) but don't see my monitor giving out any time soon either.
There is a second version of this monitor that is the same aside from being 24" and going up to 165Hz on Amazon for a decent price. Appears to come with Dell's 3 year warranty and you'll also have Amazon's wonderful customer support if you buy from there.
Gaming headsets don't do much compared to real headphones besides the looks and comfort that they give you (is they offer comfort) get ATH M50x. They are nice headphones at $150 they sound really nice, get an AMP if you want better quality in the sound. The way they make 7.1 audio is that they use software. You can use Microsofts 7.1 audio (only in the newest update of Windows 10) or you can use Razer's 7.1 FREE 7.1 audio software. Does the Motherboards I/O please you? Why don't you get it on water. The RAM is at a good speed (the sweet spot of RAM speeds). Look at cases like the DeepCool Genome and the Corsair 570x case. Those are cases that I think look cool at a similar price (the DepoCool Genome comes with a CPU water cooler with a reservoir and 3 fan radiator pre installed). Edit: 144Hz in 1440p is really nice and you will love it. Dell makes a 1440p 144Hz monitor too that looks nice and professional and it is 27 inches. Right now the monitor cost less in Dells website, the only thing that is bad is pixel inversion but you can enable ULMB. This monitor has the nicest stand I have ever seen even and it is really nice. You can't make a better stand then this one. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01IOO4SGK/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apis_1499057239133
Really can't beat the Dell S2417dg to meet your criteria. 24", 165hz, 1440p, g-sync. I was actually going to buy it but got a deal on its 27" brother that I just couldn't refuse.
For the monitor; If you are in that price range, get a 1440p monitor, especially with that 1080. For 390$ you can get a Dell 24inch 165hz G-Sync Monitor with 1 ms response time and thin bezels See here on Amazon which will not only please you visually but also in-game. I myself have a 1080 & that monitor and after seeing benchmarks playing at 1080p with the graphics card is just wasting power. Even if you turn down your settings at 1440p it will still look better that higher setting at 1080p. And if you really want those overkill refresh rates at high setting, just turn down the monitor setting to 1080p. It will look a bit worse than a native 1080p panel, but it is great to be able to have 1440p at games that dont really profit from super high refresh rates, especially games look so much better through the jump of resolution.
go for an i7 7700k if youre mainly just gaming
Go for a ryzen 1600 if you do video rendering, streaming, or other workstation-type tasks. Its cores are slower so it will be slower in most games, but it has more cores so workloads (such as the aforementioned ones) that take advantage of the extra cores will cause it to outperform a 7700k. Some games make good use of more than four cores, though that's mainly constrained to some AAA games. In such games the 1600 can perform at a similar level to a 7700k. I would not recommend an intel i5 processor at this point.
As for the monitor in that size range, id recommend none other than the Dell S2417DG. You can frequently find it for <$400 no problem. Its a 144hz 1440p 24inch gsync TN panel. I have the 27inch version sitting next to an IPS panel and the colors look fine.
I was just looking at that monitor. The price isn't too bad either. Also considering this dell although I've never used a dell anything for gaming before.
It's a good monitor, but if you have a nvidia card I would look into this one:
G-sync is awesome, and a good way to futureproof your system.
Edit: I think I found your setup from your comment history, and I would 100% go for the dell instead of the monitor you linked due to g-sync.
Yeah, the Predator is pretty nice. You could also go with the Dell S2417DG which is supposed to have the best colors for a TN panel. There's also a 27 in version of it.
Do you happen to know the model number? The Dell site is weird to find the specs you are looking for.
edit: I think i found it on Amazon, https://www.amazon.ca/Dell-S2417DG-YNY1D-24-Inch-LED-Lit/dp/B01IOO4SGK Seems like a good price! Better future proofing I suppose with 1440p resolution.
Found this https://www.amazon.com/Dell-S2417DG-YNY1D-24-Inch-LED-Lit/dp/B01IOO4SGK
Not sure if it's IPS, but I think not. I would believe there must be a OLED or AMOLED display with those characteristics, to me those are my favourite in terms of colours and contrast.
Yeah more like 165 hz here https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01IOO4SGK/?tag=pcpapi-20
A 1080 ti is extreme over kill for 1440 please just do your wallet a favor and get a normal 1080 or bump up to a 4 k monitor
And please for the love of god don't get a founders edition, they are shit for cooling and clock speed
Well 1st off I would recommend something along the lines of THIS, though I'm not sure what the availability and price would be on the other side of the pond. As for at least a similar USD price you get a higher resolution.
In terms of the quality of the monitors you are looking at though, they are not inherintly bad, but both AOC and to some extent ASUS don't have the best QC when it comes to monitors and having to get one shipped back or RMA'd is a really shitty thing to have to do so soon after the purchase.
Second, I would hold off on major GPU/Monitor purchases as ^^^^^hopefully AMD will be releasing their VEGA architecture GPU's soon which are slated to compete with the nvidia's GP104/GP102 graphics card. Even if they don't release a DIRECT competitor to the 1070/1080/1080Ti: they will likely have an option inbetween.
The RX 480 and 1060 won't be able to do 1440p at 144hz. I have a 1070 with a i5 4670k that barely hits 144hz at 1440p.
For a monitor, I recommend the Dell S2417DG. It's pretty cheap, has g-sync which is great and has given me no problems.
To echo what cs_crane said if you do end up looking for a monitor upgrade soon I couldn't recommend this one more: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01IOO4SGK/ref=ox_sc_sfl_title_1?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER
After a lot of research I recently went with the Dell myself and have been blown away with it. The features for the price point is crazy. 165hz, 1440p, and g-sync for $400. Regardless of the Make/Model you go with, a nice monitor upgrade will go a long way for any build!
https://www.amazon.com/Dell-S2417DG-YNY1D-24-Inch-LED-Lit/dp/B01IOO4SGK
Dell S2417DG. 1440p 144Hz display that while is officially TN it rivals IPS. Might be a little bit over $400 if you get it new but it's worth it. Unfortunately this would eat your whole monitor budget.
Seems kind of expensive considering the 24" dell S2417DG 165hz 1440p g sync can be bought for 40$ more. i know it isn't va/ips but the dell monitors are considered some of the best looking tn panels.
Although the panel is TN, this always gets good reviews, and is always on sale!
Filtered according to your specifications
No clue how worth it those prices are but that's all I found for 24" 1440p 144hz
Is this really considered a deal when there is the Dell S2417DG, which also is a 24" G Sync monitor at higher resolution of 2560x1440 and Overclocks to 165Hz for $399.99 on the Dell website, Amazon, as well as Best Buy who also happen to have an open box of it at $354.99.
The Dell S2417DG is on sale on Amazon.com for $400 USD right now. I don't have any personal experience with it, but reviews look good. It's basically just the 24" variant of the S2716DG you mentioned yourself. It's worth mentioning that the Amazon product description does not indicate that it's 144hz, but the Dell product page does.
Been on Amazon for quite a bit: https://www.amazon.com/Dell-S2417DG-24-Inch-LED-Lit-Monitor/dp/B01IOO4SGK/
I just ordered the same monitor. I used to have an S2716DG, but I had to return it because of a dead pixel. I was going to buy another S2716DG, but I wanted to see what 1440p looks like on a smaller panel (since smaller is better for competitive games). I know the whole "27 inch is the sweet spot for 1440p, don't buy 24 inch" opinion gets parroted a lot around here, but I'll just have to see how it looks for myself.
If you're considering buying the S2417DG because it's cheaper than the S2716DG, then I would say that's a bad idea since they can usually be found for the same price.
S2417DG ($499, was $475 a few hours ago): Amazon
S2716DG ($479): Best Buy
Also available on Amazon for the same price with Prime Shipping if you have a Prime account.
For anyone discouraged by Paypal or Newegg, Amazon has this marked down to $369.99 https://smile.amazon.com/Dell-S2417DG-24-Inch-LED-Lit-Monitor/dp/B01IOO4SGK
I'm seeing this at $395.25 "marked down" from 569.99 on Amazon. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01IOO4SGK/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_aqxVAbX63WCK4
Found it on amazon for $370: https://www.amazon.com/Dell-S2417DG-24-Inch-LED-Lit-Monitor/dp/B01IOO4SGK We may have a winner!
Same price at Amazon 319.99:
Hey OP it's $399.99 right now on amazon. I don't think it'll go lower on black friday (should I wait)?
I would spend an extra $50 and get this Dell Gaming monitor.
1440p, 144 hz, 1 ms, g-sync.

Pretty much the same build with a different monitor and I didn’t include kB/m because that is something I would do different research on. Also feel free not to buy the wireless network adapter if you plan on hard wiring your system; but that is needed for WiFi.

Does it have to be Korean? The Dell S2417DG 1440p 165Hz G.Sync monitor is available for $390 on amazon.
Suprised no one has mentioned the Dell S2417dg yet. It meets all of your requirements (144Hz, G-sync, ~$400) and adds 1440p. Not sure whats going on with the price atm but sales on it are posted somewhat frequently to r/buildapcsales so if you don't mind waiting thats probably the best option.

If you want 1080p you can get a freesync/nosync for ~$250 (I'll second the recommendation on the Viewsonix XG2401 and you can also consider the LG 24GM77 and BenQ XL2430T). G-sync at 1080p doesn't exist (at a reasonable price) for some reason.
I'm buying the Ikea Malm desk for my apartment;I currently have two of these 24 in G-Sync monitors, and I was thinking of VESA mounting them onto the desk.
Does anyone have experience with using a VESA mount on this particular desk? I was considering using the Amazon Basics dual VESA mount arm, but then I saw some people online who have had their VESA mounts smash through Ikea desks. However, each arm supports 20lbs, and the monitors themselves only weigh 8.3lb each, so I'm inclined to think that the arms wouldn't be too stressed?
As an alternative, I also considered getting two of the single arm mounts, because those might distribute the weight more evenly across the desk.
Any thoughts or input would be greatly appreciated!

Something like this should do you well. Plenty of RAM, storage space, and good mid-tier case and PSU.
As for a monitor, I recommend this. 165hz, 1440p, G-sync, good colors for a TN, and an excellent price for all those specs.
Psst PS4, forget that man, go through with the build, you will be happy. You might as well copy my build actually. And I just bought another monitor last night, having considered everything I told you for myself.
Ryzen 1600 (comes with free stock cooler) B-350F Strix motherboard Team Dark 3000 RAM 1080 ti (MSI Gaming X) Samsung 850 evo 512 GB SSD
Dell 24 inch 165 hz gsync 1440p monitor
I mean the monitor is going for 406.30 dollars on Amazon right now, not bad at all.
You'll need Windows 10 probably, which you can get for 50 bucks off this sean guy here
I've thought it all out, I even have 4k and this is the way I'm going. This is the cheapest and best way to go, your games can look reasonably good with great FPS on ultra settings, or you can turn down the settings to crank out the frames.
Consoles are still running at 30 fps, this gets up to 165 FPS in 2k. It fully utilizes the 1080 ti. Nice processor for multitasking, fast RAM takes advantage of Ryzen infinity fabric.
You'll have to go into bios and turn on XMP settings to get the RAM working fast, which is simple. I leave the ryzen 1600 at stock.
This is the way I'm gonna leave my system for the next couple of years, I think. I'll have the 4k monitor on my desk for movies, youtube etc, and this monitor on a nice ergotron mount for gaming.
I have a 28 inch now, I find its too big because I have to look around the screen in gaming, plus I have my keyboard under the monitor (mount causes it to hover above the keyboard and mouse, but my fingers hit the bottom of it when I'm gaming with the screen pulled up close to me, so I think the 24 inch will help solve that problem.
Ergotron mount go with the tall pole
And get a mouse mat
I am personally using coolermaster TKL keyboard. Then just go to best buy and see which mouse you like best, or do some research and find the best gaming mouse.
That is literally everything I've just bought and built right there, and I'm super satisfied with it. Nice cool temperatures and everything. I have a 750 watt PSU and big case with fans on all the sides. Local computer place put all the parts together for me.
There's tax involved, but Amazon customer service vs. Newegg
Agreed. Also, if he was going to upgrade to a current CPU, he'd need a new motherboard and set of RAM sticks anyway. 1070 is a better investment right now.
Alternatively, OP could get a solid 144Hz G-Sync monitor for around $400. Amazon currently has a used model in their listings for $300 via Warehouse Deals. Then he wouldn't have to worry about hitting 144 fps, and this monitor would remain great if/when he upgraded to a faster GPU/CPU later on.
I believe this is $2 more (after shipping) on Amazon with Prime shipping: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01IOO4SGK
As a Californian, I'm paying tax either way, so I'd rather pay $2 more to get it on Friday.
This is my monitor:
https://www.amazon.com/Dell-Monitor-S2417DG-24-Inch-Response/dp/B01IOO4SGK
its frequently on insane sales like right now on amazon as well. paid $300 for it last year and its amazing
I love 24 inch 1440p high refresh rate form factor. Very little options in the US apart from the AOC AG241QX and the DELL S2417DG.
You're generally right but I used to have this monitor that's QHD 24" 144hz.

Here’s what I use, I love it

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01IOO4SGK/ref=cm_sw_r_awdo_navT_g_N8HZ8FFTC00FZH1T1Z92
For reference of the actual product. I bought both for $250 each on sale. I'd never recommend paying the current list price.
Pretty much nobody makes 24" 1440p anymore. If you want the higher pixel density, consider a 27" 2160p/4k 144 Hz monitor. If you just want the size, then get a 24" 1440p monitor, maybe 280 Hz or similar to get more out of your rig.
But if you're adamant on getting 24" 1440p though, then there's the Dell S2417DG. It's an older TN monitor with native G-Sync. I probably wouldn't recommend it nowadays (a lot of better options for a similar price albeit not 24"), but here it is, and it seems to perform decently.
I have been using the Dell S2417DG for a couple of years and have been very pleased with it, the same resolution at smaller screen size means greater pixel density. https://www.amazon.com/Dell-Monitor-S2417DG-24-Inch-Response/dp/B01IOO4SGK
dell s24 something something it's 1440p 165hz 1ms non curved non wide gsync and i have it and it was like $400 and i love it literally fits all ur criteria

Two 1440p 24" monitors that I know of.

Unless I'm missing something, it's currently $389.99 on Amazon.
335 used on Amazon https://www.amazon.com/Dell-Monitor-S2417DG-24-Inch-Response/dp/B01IOO4SGK
It's TN though so I'll probably wait for a similar ips it (heck) oled monitor
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01IOO4SGK/?tag=pcpapi-20
This is the S2417DG. It is 24inches, has a 144hz refresh rate (Overclockable to 165hz), 2560x1440 resolution, and a 1 millisecond response time. It has went on sale a numerous amount of times for $330 at newegg and at amazon, and has been $315 aswell. So if you are interested in both 144hz and 1440p, then you can possibly wait for this to go on sale.
Keep in mind these are just my amazon searches, so there definitely could be better actual monitors on different websites or better prices elsewhere.
This is the one I have. It’s the cheapest high refresh rate g-sync monitor that I know of. It’s good but the colors aren’t the greatest. It’s still an insane improvement over my $120 Costco 1080p 60hz monitor.
This is basically the best 1440p monitor currently available. It’s got g-sync, an IPS panel, and i think an audio pass through. But, it’s expensive and kind of flashy which may mess up your setup if you care about that.
This is a nice 4K IPS monitor. It’s only 60hz but even with a 1080ti you won’t get above 60fps in many games at 4K with higher settings. Again, it’s expensive.
This is a 4K 144hz monitor with g-sync. You could probably find a way to get a 1080ti, a better monitor, and better cpu for about half the price so...
24" Dell S2417DG with G-Sync, 1440p, 165 Hz Refresh, 1ms response for $350 on Amazon

It's the cheapest monitor on Rtings' list of best 1440p 144hz monitors (Is actually 165hz) and is $317.99 on Amazon. It occasionally goes on sale for under $300.
This or https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01IOO4SGK/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_5sEKFb869PK4G
I only ask because it's either this new or i buy the Dell used for $250
I am considering this monitor on my PC. Any thoughts on this monitor vs. the 2560 x 1440 version? This one runs an actually G-SYNC Processor.

This my machine and I cannot decide between the 1080 or the 1440.

Looking at this monitor vs. the 1440 version, which is almost 4x more.

The 1440 version if full G-SYNC.
I am limited on space on my desk. I was going to go with a 24'' at 2560x1440 (QHD). Also concerned about having text issues for non-gaming. Biggest I can go is 24''. Based on my desk a big monitor is not possible.

Edit: I sit fairly close to the monitor. Like 21 inches away.
I'm a 24" 1440p 144/165hz kind of guy. Bought this monitor from microcenter for $299 back in April: https://www.amazon.com/Dell-Monitor-S2417DG-24-Inch-Response/dp/B01IOO4SGK/
I myself have this monitor. And I love it for just gaming. https://www.amazon.com/Dell-Monitor-S2417DG-24-Inch-Response/dp/B01IOO4SGK
BUT, I have a 1080ti. With a 3080ti and decent CPU, this monitor here would be sex. Of course its not out yet, but gives you an idea of tech is going. https://store.acer.com/en-id/predator-xb-273u-gx
Also, people are saying 4k. Theres this? https://www.lg.com/us/monitors/lg-27gn950-b-gaming-monitor
I've been using this monitor for some time, and it works great. 1440p 165 Hz 1 ms and has gsync compatibly. It's a TN panel as opposed to an IPS panel though.
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01IOO4SGK/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_n1KvFbTK1EY6Y
This monitor I picked up for $180 on sale:
https://www.amazon.com/Dell-Monitor-S2417DG-24-Inch-Response/dp/B01IOO4SGK
It looks to be going for roughly $300 these days. 165hz, G-Sync, 1440p.
24 inches is on the small side but totally fine if you prefer it. I would focus more on resolution. At 24 inches you can get 1080p, or 1440p potentially. To get full use of the 3070 I would use a high refresh rate panel, with the 1440p making more sense because it taxes the GPU more and you'll get more from the 3070.
In my opinion something like a 24 inch 1440p 165hz panel would be a great pairing with the 3070: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01IOO4SGK
https://www.amazon.com/Dell-Monitor-S2417DG-24-Inch-Response/dp/B01IOO4SGK
They have gone on sale in the past to the $200s but haven’t seen it go that low for awhile.
If interested in 1440p
I would recommend this one:

I have this monitor: Dell Gaming Monitor S2417DG YNY1D... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01IOO4SGK?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
And I have absolutely no complaints. G-sync compatible good response times and a great picture quality.
It came with the monitor - 24 Dell Gaming Monitor S2417DG YNY1D 24-Inch Screen LED-Lit TN with G-SYNC, QHD 2560 x 1440, 165Hz Refresh Rate, 1ms Response Time, 16:9 Aspect Ratio https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01IOO4SGK/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_dltiFbYV7MV9V
I'm looking to sell my current monitor a Dell S2417DG. It is 24 inches, G-SYNC, QHD 2560 x 1440, 165Hz Refresh Rate. It does have a TN panel that some people don't like. I don't really game anymore and will now be working from home so I need to get some monitors that are geared more towards productivity (maybe the Dell widescreen with built in KVM). I'm thinking $250 is a good price, but reach out if you are interested.
Canadian link for a Dell S2417DG.
This is generally the go-to monitor for the exact specs you've requested, and as far as I've seen, it's one of the only options. It's a TN panel and has had some issues with color banding which were reportedly fixed in later revisions. However, it's three years old. If you're looking to go newer, you'll likely have to go to 27". The new equivalent of that is the Dell S2719DGF for a TN panel, or an LG 27GL850 for an IPS. (I couldn't find the latter on Amazon Canada, you may have better luck elsewhere).
A 24" monitor will have a slightly better PPI than a 27" monitor of equivalent resolution. Whether it's preferable is up to your subjective opinion, but the majority of this sub will agree that 27" is a "good" standard size for 1440p. Games handle UI well at that size. I personally run 2x27" 4K and have to do some slight workarounds for Civ V and Stellaris.
Generally, a 27" monitor will be much easier to find than a 24".
https://www.amazon.com/Dell-Monitor-S2417DG-24-Inch-Response/dp/B01IOO4SGK?th=1
I'm seeing it for $325 on amazon (US). I've also been shopping for a 1440p/144hz monitor and there isn't much in stock around the same price as the dell.
Same price on Amazon if you want 5% off from using an Amazon CC: https://www.amazon.com/Dell-Monitor-S2417DG-24-Inch-Response/dp/B01IOO4SGK
YMMV but open box excellent from best buy ships for me at $200, which seems really appealing

Same price on amazon: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01IOO4SGK/
And if you're a first time shopper on Google Shopping you can get $10 off with FEBSAVE10 to make it $240:

1ms response time is a fairly nebulous and inconsistent standard that varies based on testing methodology and manufacturer's workarounds. For instance, some panels have multiple overdrive settings to achieve a measured 1ms response, at the cost of horrid overshoot or ghosting.
Here is a good website that will help you hunt by specifications.
I have always been a pixel whore. I'd really love a "pixel whore" flair or something for this sub. I'm running a Dell U3417W and the pixel density of 1440p at the equivalent of 27" just isn't high enough. For that reason, I'd like to recommend the Dell S2417DG for what I'd assume is the higher end of your budget.
I'd recommend this for pixel density over a 27" 1440p, personally. However, this monitor is notorious for color banding issues and is a TN panel. There used to be a workaround involving registry tweaks to combat this by enabling dithering, but I think it's been halted by a Windows update.
The Dell S2417DG is a 24-inch G-Sync TN panel, overclockable to 165Hz and with generally decent build quality. It would be a somewhat safe purchase. If you're willing to go to 27", you can get a newer equivalent for the same price here. You'll lose PPI, and switch G-Sync for FreeSync (which most cards are compatible with).
RTings is a respected site. You probably can't go wrong with any of their recommendations. For more info on a specific monitor, post here or hunt on specific forums or TFTcentral. :) Best of luck to you!
You've been very helpful my man. I'm going to up my build to the 1 TB Samsung 970 Evo. Upgrade to the NXT H700 White Case. Thinking about doing this monitor for now: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01IOO4SGK/?coliid=I1TTMFR4P2ALOS&colid=3E8VPQGBVEMJQ&psc=1&ref_=lv_ov_lig_dp_it

The Dell have much higher resolution - 1440p, Acer have 1080p. If you have 1070ti or better, then 1440p 144hz would be a good match.
The Dell is a bit cheaper at Amazon, try price match it.
Mainly looking at this one https://www.amazon.com/Dell-Monitor-S2417DG-24-Inch-Response/dp/B01IOO4SGK I found one on ebay for $250

The only one I am aware of is the Dell

Allow me to borrow your attention to this monitor: https://www.amazon.com/Dell-Monitor-S2417DG-24-Inch-Response/dp/B01IOO4SGK Its the one I currently use and I LOVE It, its almost always on sale and has a 27'' brother. Its 1440p 144hz with gsync, good response time ( 1 ms gray to gray ) and a really decent panel. Its TN but the colors dont shift when you look at it off angles and the, at least for me, the colors aren't bad. The bezels are also really really small. You will need to upgrade the GPU, i had issues running AAA games at 1440p 144hz with my 1070 and had to upgrade to a 1080ti to get stable and decent frames. (My main game is siege and with the TI i get a good 150+ fps with rather high settings). If you want to stream I would also recommend an upgrade to an 8700k, the extra core and thread count should help. The SSD is also good, but you can get a 1tb variant for around 120$ aswell that would be a good one time upgrade if you need the storage.
Thats a pretty decent monitor.
Although there is this for not much more:
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01IOO4SGK/?tag=pcpapi-20&pldnSite=1
The Dell has all the specifications you are asking for and gsync.

https://www.amazon.com/Dell-Monitor-S2417DG-24-Inch-Response/dp/B01IOO4SGK Does this seem like a good option for a monitor? Is there any cheaper alternatives with similar specs? And also do you see the prices lowering on this for Black Friday?
I was looking at 24" and came across this. It doesnt have to be an IPS but I'm thinking about 24" now.
I bought this monitor in May for 385. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01IOO4SGK/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
It was rated budget gaming of the year 2017 by some website or another but
its the bees knees.
or just get something without gsync or freesync, that's fine as well.

Try this , It has a 165hz refresh rate, gsync and is 2560x1440
i would say go with g-sync personally. it is quite a bit more expensive ($100-150 premium) than amd freesync but makes a much smoother picture. I personally also just do a flat screen monitor. Now if you dont care about freesync or g-sync it is not a terrible price for a curved monitor. Also the monitor you are looking at is cheaper on amazon. And the 27" is not much more than that)

One i have that i like is below
Here's the monitor. I am considering getting it as well, but it is definitely over 300 dollars. The lowest I have seen it is 340 or so. https://www.amazon.com/Dell-S2417DG-24-Inch-AmazonBasics-Mounting/dp/B01IOO4SGK?th=1
Honestly i bought the Acer predator for 370 and it had bad issues during the first week. I returned it for a full refund, jumped on facebook market and was lucky enough to find someone selling a gsync 144hz 1ms monitor and talked them down to $140. I would look around your local area for a little bit because that is going to be the biggest way to save money. If not just do not get an Acer predator because im not the only one that had the same issues with it, apparently its a known issue with the tn panel or gysnc module they use. And Acers customer support told me there was nothing that they could do.
If i was in your feet and had to get a new monitor with gsync i would probably go with this one:
In another post somebody went for this one. reviews seem to suggest it's not half bad.

These guys also seem to go on sale fairly regularly along with its 27" big brother.
I just bought this monitor

144Hz 2K under 400.00 and Gsync but its a TN panel
Should I flank my Dell S2417DG with 2 of these? Sucks that the bezels won't be perfect, but it'll look cool I think.
Sure thing! https://www.amazon.com/Dell-Monitor-S2417DG-24-Inch-Response/dp/B01IOO4SGK I think it’s on sale at Best Buy right now, a great deal considering the specs
This seems to be the most "fit the bill" monitor I've seen. The only thing it doesn't have is an IPS and I'd really rather not shell out another 600-800$ after having just bought the computer so soon.
Edit: How funny, I didn't even realize I just linked the same monitor you did.... oie.. lol
They also have
which I believe is the same just 27 instead of 24 at a 70$ price increase. This seems like the best option?

Looks like the deal is out of stock but you can nab the 24 inch version on Amazon for $370 here. I have the monitor myself and no major complaints.

I want to buy this one Dell Gaming S2417DG YNY1D 24-Inch Screen LED-Lit Monitor with G-SYNC https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01IOO4SGK/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_CritAbB74VSDT
It has G-Synch thats great !!
https://www.amazon.com/Dell-S2417DG-24-Inch-LED-Lit-Monitor/dp/B01IOO4SGK
It's currently priced at $400 but it goes on sale pretty often for around $350.
It's listed at $386 on Amazon right now.
You won’t get anything worth it for $300.
This is probably the closest to what you’re asking for:
Dell Gaming S2417DG YNY1D 24-Inch Screen LED-Lit Monitor with G-SYNC https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01IOO4SGK/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_Z79rAb5BGSBT0
If you are in a budget and want a good Gsync monitor then it’s almost impossible and you will probably get a better resolution or refresh rate from a monitor that doesn’t have Gsync over a low end Gsync monitor other then that I would recommend looking out for deals I’ve found decent deals like this and this and those are great deals :)

Neither. I’d go for this 23.8 1440p g sync 165hz monitor from dell.
https://www.amazon.com/Dell-S2417DG-24-Inch-LED-Lit-Monitor/dp/B01IOO4SGK
We're talking about the Dell S2417DG correct?....
so this is the best monitor for you https://www.amazon.com/Dell-S2417DG-24-Inch-LED-Lit-Monitor/dp/B01IOO4SGK
If you want a top-notch monitor, there's the AOC Agon. 27 inches, G-Sync, 165Hz (refresh rate/fps), IPS (better colors and viewing angles), VESA compatible.
If you want a more affordable one, there's the the Dell S2417DG. 24 inches and no IPS, but it's also 165hz and has G-Sync.
The Dell one would go a smidge over budget, but it's solid.
If you wanna splurge on a big boy, though, the Agon is fantastic. I demoed it at a Microcenter when I picked up my monitor and it's stunning.
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01IOO4SGK/ref=twister_B01N5DR9U9?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1 just got this monitor, its 1440p though, im not sure if you're looking for higher res.
Yes absolutly. But also it comes down to money and if it is big enough of a difference for your budget. Because you have a 1080 it could likely run all games at greater than 60 hz at 1440p. There for is anything I might recommend at least 1440p (also the extra real estate is awesome for productivity). 1440p is best at 27 if possible but probably still nice at 24 inch (can't say from experience). If you want a 24 inch 1440p at 144hz with GSYNC. really your only option is a TN monitor. The good news is one of the best ones can be gotten for around 400 usually. That right there is a pretty good choice (Amazon) with pretty good color I hear. If you want 27 inch you will have to make a choice. There's a 27 Dell that is around 530 bucks that is a TN 1440p 144hz GSYNC (Amazon). But if you want an IPS with those same specs, including GSYNC and even higher refresh rate, you will have to spend close to 700 (Amazon). If you don't care about GSYNC you can buy a Nixeus EDG 27 which is 1440p 144hz IPS Freesync (Amazon) for $430 or $500 with the height adjustable stand.
If you don't care about 144 hz I'm not versed in that as my research was done on 144hz. That is a totally different ball game and you potentially coul get a 4k panel for around what your budget is.
Alternatively to all of what I listed you can try your luck at a Korean knock off of everything I listed. The knock off from what I understand usually are B-grade panels that are the same panel with higher risk of defects. I think Pixio is one of those knock offs but one of the more popular ones. They usually have the word "pixel perfect" or something similar in the title. With these knock off obviously YMMV and you take risks.
Now for IPS vs TN there is definitely a noticable difference. If you have never had a IPS, like if you have never had 144hz, you can't really know what your missing. And I don't mean that in an attitude kind of way, because maybe the color difference isn't that much and you can get by with a TN. Maybe the extra frames past 60 aren't as noticable for you and you won't care. For me I don't think I could go back to a TN after IPS. For instance my 24 inch TN panel is 144 hz and I have a shitty LG 8 year old IPS 23 inch. The color difference is crazy noticable but in competitive games you probably want the extra Hertz. For single player you probably wont care. Now on the other hand I also have the Nixeus EDG 27 Freesync I listed above and it is gorgeous. Its color puts the 24 inch TN to shame and it has the same refresh rate. Now to be fair my 24 inch is the Ass VG248QE which IIRC correctly has a bad reputation for crappy color. Also the whites are like staring at the sun.
Look at those Dell 24 and 27 inch Gsync monitors and do some digging. I thought I heard they have pretty decent color for TN panels. Also as a side note I thought I heard the 27 inch IPS panels are a lottery in terms of QA, known for back light bleed and stuff like that. My Nixeus EDG 27 has a mammoth bezel to try to reduce this which does seem to help. I hear the TN 1440p panels do not have this problem. My order of what I wanted was 144hz > 1440p > 1440p > 27 inch > Adaptive Sync Tech (Gsync vs Freesync) > 24inch. It just so happens I found my monitor in the Nixeus because it is a 27 inch IPS 144hz 1440p Freesync to go along with my AMD Rx 480 and it ticked all the boxes. When I bought the Nixeus it was a preorder on Massdrop so not only did it not have reviews the Nixeus brand isnt well known. I went it I made a gamble on the monitor but I heard their customer service was pretty good, at least for it's price.
This monitor by Dell is 1440p and 165Hz, it's typically around $420 USD. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01IOO4SGK/?tag=pcpapi-20
I am thinking about splurging and getting this monitor, do you think this is a good choice or is there something wrong with it that I'm not seeing?

I did see some nice dell 1440p monitors that are in your price range if you wanted to check that out I leave a link at the bottom of the post Peripherals- since no gamings gonna happen I just included an rgb keyboard from corsair and a wireless Logitech rgb mouse. For speakers just 2 boss companions because you can never really go wrong with them
Ways to improve performance -if you can cash out I'd go for a threadripper 1920x, a new mobo that supports it, and 64gb of ram to insure future proofing. Also you could add another 1080ti on as time goes by as the mobo does support sli

If you have any questions just ask and I'd also like some other users input on this build
The G-Sync version of the 24" monitor would be the AGON AG241QG.
Actually, if I remember correctly, there was a much cheaper (relatively) Dell 1440p, 24" G-sync monitor floating around...
Ah, here we go:
i mean it depends on your budget, but i recently picked this one up and it's beautiful

Just saying.. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01IOO4SGK/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Shipping kinda ruins it on used monitors most of the time.
personally, i just picked up this monitor and love it. looks great, feels amazing

Should i go with the zero-g 1440p monitor: https://www.monoprice.com/product?p_id=16384 or the dell gaming monitor: https://www.amazon.com/Dell-Gaming-S2716DG-LED-Lit-Monitor/dp/B01IOO4SGK?th=1
for a pc I am about to build with i7 7700k and gtx 1080.
Thanks
Okay, great! Would this monitor paired with a 1080 be a good fit?
On mobile ATM, but I can link you some unformatted links to get started. Give me a second while I edit them in.
The build: https://www.reddit.com/r/buildapc/comments/6rpx5y/comment/dl6w9gy?st=J5YWAV0T&sh=a3a70ecd
You might also want to consider a 1080Ti

Consider a 27" if you like size vs PPI (pixel density)

Again, go with a 32" if you prefer size over PPI
Keep in mind, this is pretty top end. It's overkill for those two games but will set you up nicely for pretty much any gaming you want to do.
You'll want to use DP for both, especially the 1440p144hz. I have a newer HDMI for my 4k60 monitor that can push the 60hz refresh rate. So that can work too. I think the newest HDMI can push 144hz but I could be mistaken. Regardless, go for DP.
Dell Gaming S2417DG. Routinely goes on sale for ~$360. https://www.amazon.com/Dell-S2417DG-YNY1D-24-Inch-LED-Lit/dp/B01IOO4SGK
https://www.amazon.com/Dell-S2417DG-YNY1D-24-Inch-LED-Lit/dp/B01IOO4SGK
I have this monitor and it's great (G-Sync as well!). I actually like that it's 24 inch too because the pixel density makes it so nice to look at.

1440p at 165 hz ? $509 ? Sounds like a good deal. Or I could also seek a refurbished monitor rather than brand new.
There are options under $500. This Dell, for example. Or its 27" brother goes on sale for $400-450 pretty often.
G-sync is definitely getting upcharged, but there are more affordable options hitting the market.
Someone suggested the 24 inch version and it seems like not too bad of a deal. I could also try to get one that is refurbished.

Based on what everyone else says in this thread, this monitor to me seems like a good deal.
https://www.amazon.ca/Dell-S2417DG-YNY1D-24-Inch-LED-Lit/dp/B01IOO4SGK
I can't really answer your question, but that monitor did entice me enough to look into it and I actually found that its cheaper on amazon.ca (without even being on sale).
It's also cheaper at dell directly, though not as cheap as it is on amazon, but I think there are usually 10% off monitor coupons you can use on the dell site and you might wanna just wait on that.
Hope that helps a bit.
My bad, $510 Amazon with free shipping
I usually build my own but because of current sale in /r/BuildaPCsales I have to recommend a prebuilt for the money (you will be underbudget even with taxes if you don't get the speakers or speakers plus cheaper keyboard).
$1100 This desktop: AMD Ryzen 7 1700 8-Core Processor 3.0GHz; GTX 1070 8GB; 16GB DDR4; 1TB HDD + 240GB SSD
$400 This monitor: Dell Gaming S2417DG YNY1D 24-Inch Screen LED-Lit Monitor with G-SYNC 1440p, 1ms response time, GSync....simply a BEAST for gaming. You NEVER want to cheap out on your monitor if it is your primary monitor, never.
$52 mouse: Logitech G502 Proteus Spectrum RGB Tunable Gaming Mouse, FPS Mouse
$40 Headset: HyperX Cloud Core Pro Gaming Headset for PC, Xbox One, PS4 RECERTIFIED
I have bought 2 from these guys and other than plain box the headsets looked new and have zero issues with them. Comfortable, great sound (for gaming NOT for music), average to above average mic (for gaming) which is removable.
$100-$200 insert mechanical keyboard of your choice. This is highly subjective because it depends if you want Blue keys (very clicky sounding with tactile feedback) or Brown keys (quieter but has tactile feedback), Red Keys, etc. I have every major brand of gaming keyboard from Corsair, Razer, Ducky, Das (I even have a legendary IBM Model M) but my daily driver is currently a Corsair K95.
$250 External speakers (optional) Corsair SP2500 High-power 2.1 PC Speaker System Hands down my favorite PC speakers of all time. Super clean sound (for PC speakers/not audiophile) and chest thumping clean bass.
This setup will be able to play almost any game at 1440p 60FPS at high settings.

this is 1440p with gsync, there are 24" and 27" options
i'm not very knowledgeable in headsets so other users will be better to help
This one. It's often for sale for under $400. I got mine for $400 with a $30 MIR.
This is a great monitor for cheap, and it;s even overclockable to 165hz.
Tried pming but it didn't look like it wen through, if you don't find one check this deal on amazon https://www.amazon.com/Dell-S2417DG-YNY1D-24-Inch-LED-Lit/dp/B01IOO4SGK
Unfortunately you've got an added ~$100 for gsync so $350 gets you a $250 monitor with gsync. If you could go to ~$400 I would get something like this. It's 2560x1440 @144hz so you can let your card stretch its legs a bit, is but it's a TN panel so colors and angles won't be great. You're looking at $700+ for 4k and even most 2k IPS screens.
Now if you're willing to wait for vega and a freesync option you can save the hundred dollar up charge and spend it on a better monitor.
EDIT that monitor is on sale at newegg, don't know a lot about it but it's within your budget, 2k, and overclockable. Maybe someone who's got it can chime in.
I would suggest the Dell s2417DG
Not IPS but 24" 165hz with G-Sync and better colors than all other TN panels https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01IOO4SGK/?tag=pcpapi-20
IPS 27" but no G-Sync and 60hz https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824009996
What is budget?
This dell is a great bang for the buck g-sync screen
The 24" version is even cheaper https://www.amazon.com/Dell-S2417DG-YNY1D-24-Inch-LED-Lit/dp/B01IOO4SGK
Wow, yeah in the U.S. only about $400 https://www.amazon.com/Dell-S2417DG-YNY1D-24-Inch-LED-Lit/dp/B01IOO4SGK
I see the S2417DG for $400. Is it really the exact same monitor? Because then lol, ASUS and Acer are ripping people off!
I believe it was this. I have one myself :)
I have this one and absolutely love it
I got this one recently and have been super happy with it so far. It's also 1440p and supports g-sync if you're interested on that.
How much will will upgrading to a 1440p monitor reduce my fps?
I get about 120-140 fps in Overwatch right now with just a gtx 970 but at only 1080p on a 60hz monitor. I'm looking at picking up this deal.
I plan on upgrading my graphics card in a couple months when I get some birthday/summer money rolling in, so the fps issues shouldn't be a big problem as it'll only be for a short time.
I'm buying monitor then graphics card because it seems like the 1080 will be dropping in price in the coming months as the 1080ti comes out, and this monitor seems like a good deal right now. (I was thinking of picking it up used for $336 according to Amazon, is there anything I should be worried about when buying a used monitor?)
Sorry, this post is kind of all over the place but I'm really looking for any kind of advice at all that you can throw to me about this decision, thanks!
It all really depends on the monitor size you prefer. If I was in the market for an IPS monitor as my primary, I'd likely get this Dell:
But that's because I like the 24"-25" screen size. A lot of people think 1440p is too high for anything under 27", but I just think of the super high pixel density it would give me.
Few tips:
I'm starting to feel like a Dell advertising machine here, but these are the only monitors that I've seen reasonably priced with what you've asked: Dell S2417DG, $390 or Dell S2716DG, $480
If noise is an important consideration for you and you happen to have the inclination/determination for it, maybe consider the investment for a liquid cooling set up? It's one of those things that you can reuse in future builds by just changing blocks/mounts.
I just picked out this montior for my build. Very similar to yours, 7600k & 1070, absolutely love it so far. https://www.amazon.com/Dell-S2417DG-YNY1D-24-Inch-LED-Lit/dp/B01IOO4SGK edit: forgot to mention a) its often on sale so you can get for less, probably wouldn't even have to wait long b) it reaches 2 of your requirements being 1440p and 144hz 1ms.
i would say you get this monitor.. better resolution 1440p instead the 1080 higher refresh rate 165Hz. for less $$
Actually this one is better imo : https://www.amazon.com/Dell-S2417DG-YNY1D-24-Inch-LED-Lit/dp/B01IOO4SGK/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1488661827&sr=8-1&keywords=s2417dg
165hz, Gsync, 1440p.
For 1080p it's stupid overkill, like seriously dumb.
After some looking I actually found something for a good price: https://www.amazon.com/Dell-S2417DG-YNY1D-24-Inch-LED-Lit/dp/B01IOO4SGK/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1488432337&sr=8-1&keywords=S2417DGc=us&l=en&s=dhs&cs=19&sku=210-AIZS This is a 24in 1440p 165Hz 1ms 16:9. WOW! it also has a good rating on pcmonitors.info (this website provides an elaborate review of multiple monitors). GET IT
Both are incredibly expensive for just 1080p. I'd suggest getting the Dell S2417DG for barely any more you get 1440p and 165hz G-sync.
I'd suggest getting the benq. Otherwise go for the Dell S2417DG, its a little bit more expensive(390$) but its 1440p , 165hz, and G-Sync. Much better deal than the overpriced "Gaming monitors" mentioned below.
> Yeah. Here's a $250 1440p IPS freesync monitor. I agree with your assessment.
That's a 60hz, budget IPS panel. The Dell is a 8-bit TN that's 165hz with ULMB and Gsync.
Of course, here's the panel at $389 right now: https://www.amazon.com/Dell-S2417DG-YNY1D-24-Inch-LED-Lit/dp/B01IOO4SGK
And here's when it dropped to $359 awhile ago.
I used to play alot of competitive cs and ow. Not so much anymore. G sync is nvidias display tech the removes screen tearing and display stutter.
I have https://www.amazon.com/Dell-S2417DG-YNY1D-24-Inch-LED-Lit/dp/B01IOO4SGK as my monitor.. it goes on sale often. I got it around black friday with total rebates n discounts and ebates for $290ish? Its 24inch but i prefer it to the 27in because i like smaller monitors for fps games. Once you calibrate the colors its a beast. It oc's to 165hz and has gsync, 1ms and its 1440 for less then $300.

This is a little over budget, but it has a 1070, which is killer for what you want to do. If you want to spend a little more money, get 16GB of RAM instead of 8. I always recommend this corsair set. The monitors you could go with are these two Gsync Pannels 1. $319 1080p AOC or 2. $399 1440p Dell.
Dell Gaming S2417DG YNY1D 24-Inch Screen LED-Lit Monitor with G-SYNC https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01IOO4SGK/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_lstMybP5D3F6A
I did a lot of research and this was the best monitor for the price with 1440p, 144hz and g sync. I love it
https://www.amazon.com/Dell-S2417DG-YNY1D-24-Inch-LED-Lit/dp/B01IOO4SGK
The 1080p version is obviously cheaper also
I think if you want gsync with your budget your options are very limited, so there's pretty much only one choice! It's 165hz, 1440p with gsync!
> AOC AG271QG
I would propose another option: 1080 w/ the Dell S2417DG, which is under 400 bucks but only 24 inches. This is what I did and I'm enjoying getting all of the features you listed, and would hate to have sacrificed any one of them. The only area where I don't know if it competes with the AOC is in color accuracy, which I didn't consider because I'm colorblind.
this is the best 144hz monitor you can get right now. 1ms response time and a really great price for what it is.....https://www.amazon.com/Dell-S2417DG-YNY1D-24-Inch-LED-Lit/dp/B01IOO4SGK

Yo - 1440p 165Hz G-Sync for $400 on-sale. If you want a single good monitor this is a steal for your setup!
EDIT: Derp I forgot the link: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01IOO4SGK/?tag=pcpapi-20&th=1
Don't know if you're interested in sticking to 27", but the Dell S2417DG is hands down my favorite monitor I've ever owned. https://www.amazon.com/Dell-S2417DG-YNY1D-24-Inch-LED-Lit/dp/B01IOO4SGK/ref=sr_1_1?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1486883366&sr=1-1&keywords=dell+s2417dg 165hz 1440p 1ms response time with G-Sync. And after some minor calibration the colors have been flat out amazing for a TN panel. Here's also a review with calibration settings http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/dell-s2417dg-24-inch-165hz-g-sync-gaming-monitor,4788.html. I personally don't find 24" too small for 1440p and have enjoyed every minute of this monitor.
I just bought one of these 1440p gsync monitors for 354 yesterday. It's a factory refurb, but brand new are 390. Not quite 300, but certainly less than double.
This monitor holds up pretty well to IPS after some fine tuning. I have two of them mounted to a cheapo dual LCD monitor desk mount and couldn't be happier.
This post really helped with monitor color/brightness/contrast adjustments, as well as the amazon reviews
I don't overclock to 165hz right now because my 1060 card really can't handle 1440p gameplay over 120fps. Just bought a 1070, so that's about to change :)
What kind of ultrawide? Panel type, response time, adaptive sync, contrast ratio, resolution, brand, all of these are important factors.
I would get the ultrawide (assuming it has a 1440 vertical resolution) if you only do gaming on the side. Otherwise this monitor (or this one if you're using an NVIDIA graphics card and want the adaptive sync).
I have this one on the way. It's got good reviews.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01IOO4SGK/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I just picked up this bad boy. I'm about to go from 1080/60 to 1440/165.
I struggled for days deciding if I wanted 1080/144 or 1440/144. I went with 1440, but I feel like I might regret it. I got this one.
I bought this one:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01IOO4SGK/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o05_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I loved it. I'm only returning it because I didn't want to upgrade my GPU to support it (I have a 770 and can't justify upgrading).
Only complaint was the color was awful, but once i downloaded a color profile from the internet (google it) I was very happy with the monitor.
I didn't know G-sync would be that big of a deal until I got a g-sync monitor this year. It's truly amazing, and I can't ever go back to a normal monitor. The problem is, you're basically locking yourself into Nvidia cards for the future, as AMD cards don't work with g-sync (unless you're down to switch monitors if you switch cards too). The Dell S2417DG is a great monitor (I have the 27" version), though its a little expensive, I've been seeing it go on sale a lot recently. You could check /r/buildapcsales to see if there are any deals on this monitor.
https://www.amazon.com/Dell-Gaming-S2716DG-LED-Lit-Monitor/dp/B01IOO4SGK?th=1&psc=1
1440p, 144hz, gsync, and well priced.
The LG is better, but definitely not 125$ better. At 400$ you could get the Dell S2417DG which is a 1440p, G-Sync 144hz 24inch monitor, and is simply better than the LG and the Viewsonic.
The problem with IPS panels is that they have higher response times and are generally more expensive. There are AHVA panels (usually listed as IPS) which have TN-like response times with better image quality but you'll have to pay a hefty premium for it.
The only problem with the XG2401 is that you're running a GTX770 and so wont benefit from FreeSync. Other than that it seems to be exactly what you're looking for. Note that you will have to do some tweaking of the settings and ICC profile to get the best image quality, but there are lots of very easy to follow guides on doing it.
Unless you really want 2 monitors I would recommend the dell s2417dg. It is only 24" but it is also only $430 and is 1440p 144hz g-sync and has a 1ms response time. I think that is a steal and I bought it when it was $400 last week and I also recently got a 1070. I wouldn't go 4K with only a single 1070 as you wouldn't be able to get 60 fps on most AAA games.
If you cannot budget any more than $350 I would go 1440p. You will probably want to play with VSYNC on, but the 1070 should be more than enough to handle it. My 1070 is running 1440p 144hz and it pretty much never drops below 60hz.
The Dell S2417DG is the same price, 1440p, and should have better image quality than the AOC according to reviews.
If you're set on 1080p, then the Acer XB241H looks to be around the same price, and again according to reviews has better image quality than the AOC you were looking at.
that really depends on preference. It won't affect preformance, mostly price and aestethic. I've heard the dell gaming monitor is good but i've never used it.
Not sure about him, but I have the Dell S2417DG and it doesn't have speakers built in.
Take a look at this monitor. GSync, 144hz, 1440p.

https://www.amazon.com/Dell-S2417DG-YNY1D-24-Inch-LED-Lit/dp/B01IOO4SGK Would this be a decent monitor then?
It's a Dell 27inch gaming monitor. They also make a 24inch version which is around $399 currently on Amazon
You can't go wrong with this one: https://www.amazon.com/Dell-S2417DG-YNY1D-24-Inch-LED-Lit/dp/B01IOO4SGK/
Unless you want a large size.
I know its quite a bit over your budget right now, but I just got a Dell S2417DG for ~ 472CAD a week weeks ago. It really an amazing monitor. Even scrolling reddit is noticeably smoother. https://www.amazon.ca/Dell-S2417DG-YNY1D-24-Inch-LED-Lit/dp/B01IOO4SGK/ref=sr_1_fkmr0_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1481485473&sr=8-1-fkmr0&keywords=Dell+Gaming+S2417DG+YNY1D
I personally use the Dell S2417DG and with the proper calibration it looks really good and with its features pairs flawlessly with a 1080. It's about the cheapest high quality monitor that runs not only 1440P, but G-Sync and 165 Hz. It makes the Witcher III run buttery smooth, even when it dips into the 50s. (I use maximum everything.) Dirt 3 runs pegged at 165 FPS all the time and looks absolutely awesome.
If you have a monitor without variable refresh technology and you are unable to consistently support its refresh rate, you will have screen tearing to some degree. At 144Hz it becomes less noticeable, but it is still present. I looked at the monitor you were looking at and I think I found what might be perfect for you. Enter the Dell S2417DG. This monitor is right at the same price as the one you're looking into getting, and unless you absolutely are dead set on 27", everything about this monitor is better. It's 1440P, 165 Hz, and has G-Sync. The trick with G-Sync is to enable it in the Nvidia Control Panel then enable V-Sync on top of it just in case you actually hit the maximum refresh rate. What this does is allows G-Sync to work between 30 and 164 FPS and V-Sync caps it at 165 FPS to prevent overscanning and create screen tearing issues. The result of this is a game-play experience as smooth and clear as polished optical glass. Just make sure that when you enable V-Sync in the control panel, you disable it in all of your games, as having two programs trying to control refresh rates can cause conflicts and reduce stability. The control panel should override the game, as it is a global setting, but it's a good precaution to take.
It's not possible. Get an AMD card if you want to use it. Alternatively if you really want to stick with NVIDIA you can get a cheap G-SYNC monitor like this one and return or sell the one you're currently using.
Dunno what you were trying to link to mate, but it is actually on Amazon for $379.99 which is a pretty good deal for a 1440p gsync monitor!
How does this compare to the Dell Gaming S2417DG ?
IF they are out of stock you can try these 2 links:
Best I've seen is this dell one https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01IOO4SGK/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER, the 24" is 165hz but the 27" is 144hz .
Currently $359 at Amazon https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01IOO4SGK
I'm trying to decide if it's time for me to finally grab one.
It's in Amazon for 360 https://www.amazon.com/Dell-S2417DG-YNY1D-24-Inch-LED-Lit/dp/B01IOO4SGK
Just two (dual) monitors, one for the game, the other to run OBS and have streams/browser/etc. up.
If you want to suggest a couple new monitors I'd be open to that too.
EDIT: I am going to probably invest in a g-sync monitor, I think amazon has one for $360: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01IOO4SGK/?tag=pcpapi-20
Really, so you'd skip the 2560x1440? Why? The 2560x1440 feels like it's the top requirement for me, but I'd like to hear your perspective.
One that I've been looking at is this Dell: https://www.amazon.com/Dell-S2417DG-YNY1D-24-Inch-LED-Lit/dp/B01IOO4SGK
The only thing I'm concerned about is the TN vs IPS. How much of a difference does that actually make?
I found this.
4k 27"? Wouldn't 1440p be the sweetspot for 27", 4k would be more noticeable farther away right? I bought a 24" 1440p 1ms 165hz g sync monitor for $400. I got a 24" since my desk is small & 27" would be up in my face.
Hmm, I'm wondering if I should go with this or the Dell 2417DG. Do you think it's worth the difference in price?
Dell S2417DG costs $400 right now, 1440P 165Hz TN with G-Sync. Tom's Hardware has a review.
https://www.amazon.com/Dell-S2417DG-YNY1D-24-Inch-LED-Lit/dp/B01IOO4SGK This one I think. Can't find where it says 165hz though
the $450 dell 24" 1440p 165hz TN gsync monitor would be decent
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01IOO4SGK/ref=twister_B0184YWH54?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
or the $365 Pixio px277 1440p 144hz IPS monitor. and use Fastsync to remove screen tearing. Fastsync has a little bit more lag and doesnt look as smooth as gsync at low fps. I think its is a good altenative if you are willing you turn fastsync in nvidia control panel and then disable it in Cs:go, overwatch, battlefield.
You can easily get a 1440p144hz monitor at that price and your graphics card is definitely capable of 1440p whether it is 60 or 144.
The Dell S2417DG is a 1440p165hz with GSync, it's only drawback is that it is a 24 inch monitor.
I just saw one of your comments while doing some research. Do you think you could offer some advice? You really seem to know your stuff. I LOVE the colors and the crispness of the text on my Surface Pro 4. I'm currently using a cheap monitor (at least it's 1080p) I scored in 2009 for $60.
I'm willing to spend maybe $400 on an upgrade and all I want is high resolution, high refresh rate, and nicer colors. I also want to be done with the bright blacks of my current monitor, the E211H.
I'm thinking of getting either the Pixio PX277^[^0^] or the Dell S2417DG^[^1^] if the price drops again, but I'm open for other suggestions.

Thank you so much.
I just got my S2417DG three days ago and I found that calibrating it to the specifications of this Toms Hardware review then dialing in about .7 gamma and 60% color vibrancy in Nvidia control panel makes this thing look magnificent. Keep in mind that these are both 144Hz monitors, but the S2417DG is the only one capable of overclocking to 165Hz.
hella ready.
if you can tho, try funneling a bit more money on the monitor. something like this might tickle your fancy.
There's a guide for calibrating that monitor on the Amazon listing. Look at the top review towards the bottom of the page under the product specifications on this listing - https://www.amazon.com/Dell-S2417DG-YNY1D-24-Inch-LED-Lit/dp/B01IOO4SGK/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1474289504&sr=8-1&keywords=Dell+S2417DG
those reviews are from S2716DG, even if it says S2417DG.
because i remember those reviews BEFORE the release of S2417DG proof
Sorry, I made a typo in my original post. It's the S2417DG. Here's a link to it. It's fairly expensive though, since it's 1440p 144Hz and has G-Sync.
TN panels have lower input lag (1ms) than IPS panels (lowest a, but generally the viewing angles are worse and depending on the manufacturer, the colors might be not as accurate.
OP, I got the this monitor https://www.amazon.com/Dell-Monitor-S2417DG-24-Inch-Response/dp/B01IOO4SGK/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?dchild=1&keywords=dell+sd2417dg&qid=1598052679&sprefix=dell+sd&sr=8-1
It was on sale, and I got it at Best Buy. When doing my research g-sync monitors are built with g-sync inside of its hardware. G-sync compatible is they made it work without special hardware in it. In the end think about difference, g-sync monitor is specially made for g-sync. That’s all I have, mines 165hz runs great. But not the best color and sharpness obviously as a 4k g-sync monitor.. basically what I’m trying to say is do your research.
Not IPS but this Dell . There is also the Dell S2716DG which is around $400 too, but also TN. I have the 27” and it’s been great. The colors aren’t as good as my IPS but it’s alright, they are good enough.
Dell Gaming Monitor S2417DG YNY1D 24-Inch Screen LED-Lit TN with G-SYNC, QHD 2560 x 1440, 165Hz Refresh Rate, 1ms Response Time, 16:9 Aspect Ratio https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01IOO4SGK/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_VfgUCb7CVT0G1
Perhaps this one would be good?
i count 1 from that link and that was 2 months ago .

Went with a Ryzen 5 1600 and a GTX 1080 here. The Ryzen 5 1600 is powerful enough to get the 90 FPS you need for VR, and AM4 is the only current platform that will get upgrade options. The 1080 is a strong gpu that will run AAA games for a good while. You could go to a 1080 Ti, but you don't have to. Fast ram (gives Ryzen a good boost), HDD + SSD and a high quality psu. I hope you like the case, it is noise isolated and I really like its look.
Are you looking for something specific with the display? https://www.amazon.com/Dell-S2417DG-YNY1D-24-Inch-LED-Lit/dp/B01IOO4SGK is an option: 24", Gsync, 1440p.
Looks similar to the one I went with: Dell Gaming S2417DG
I'll never buy a Dell computer but they did a really nice job with this monitor.
$390 USD 24" 1440p 165hz monitor
Not sure what shipping rates are, but hey; there are 1440p/144hz+ monitors that are under $800. Maybe it's just Israel where you guys are SOL for pricing.
I have a very similar build and I just recently bought this guy and am very impressed. You can even overclock it to 165hz, although it apparently increases input lag. I was thinking of buying one of the new 240hz monitors but came to the conclusion that I don't play enough games that hit the 160-200+ fps threshold compared to 144/165hz.
Of course some games will be difficult to hit the magical 1440p/144fps target, but I am finding it to be a very reasonable and good-looking compromise.
This monitor at bestbuy.

It's also on sale at Amazon with no sales tax
Says in stock on 12/11.
Sure. Here

I don't have euros but this is a pretty good price with Gsync, 1440p and 165hz But I also know prices get crazy depending on the region.
$379.99 on Amazon
Edit: my link is the 24", still a good deal though
Non R version is cheaper on Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/Dell-S2417DG-YNY1D-24-Inch-LED-Lit/dp/B01IOO4SGK/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1482678199&sr=8-2&keywords=S2716DGR
The R difference is minimal according to this thread: https://www.reddit.com/r/Monitors/comments/4os2yi/difference_between_dell_monitors_s2716dg_vs/
I picked up a used one from Amazon warehouse last night for $357.
