I bought a used Dell Inspiron i7559 and was tripping about the price (my previous laptop I got at Best Buy for $300 three years ago and it did everything I neded for business but not for music) but got an Amazon Store Card and will make some reasonable, zero-interest payments over the next year.
> Dell Inspiron i7559-5012GRY 15.6" UHD (3840x2160) 4k Touchscreen Laptop (Intel Quad Core i7-6700HQ, 8 GB RAM, 1 TB HDD) NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960M, Microsoft Signature Edition https://www.amazon.com/dp/B015PYZI8E/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_1M04Cb6KHV04D
I definitely do not recommend this laptop. My friend bought a dell laptop with a 4K screen and similar GPU and it had so many issues. It was ungodly slow at that resolution and died after just 1 year, just outside of his warranty. 4K is also near useless at that size of screen and it is just a battery and resource drain IMHO.
EDIT:
This one also does not have an SSD! Get an SSD! In my opinion, do not even consider one if it does not have an SSD unless you will add one yourself.
I really appreciate the help! My laptop is a Dell Inspiron i7559. Its this one to be more exact https://www.amazon.com/Dell-i7559-5012GRY-3840x2160-Touchscreen-i7-6700HQ/dp/B015PYZI8E.
Current resolution setting is 3840 x 2160 (recommended). Scaling is at 250% (recommended).
the aspire e15 would be great, for just $550. You could also take a look at the Inspiron 15 7567 if you want something faster with great battery life. The Acer VX 15 would also be great, but its battery isnt as good as the inspiron (it does have a better screen though). If you want a 4k laptop (it isnt true 4k, but still higher than 1080p), you could check this one out
Dell Inspiron i7559-5012GRY 15.6" UHD (3840x2160) 4k Touchscreen Laptop (Intel Quad Core i7-6700HQ, 8 GB RAM, 1 TB HDD + 8 GB SSD) NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960M, Microsoft Signature Edition https://www.amazon.com/dp/B015PYZI8E/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_z-X6ybYERN9WC
Just got this myself a little under a month ago and man this laptop is beautiful and can master most games with great fps
I really like it. I've been looking around more. what do you think about this? Dell Inspiron i7559-5012GRY 15.6" UHD *i7 6700HQ *960M
I did notice there seems to be a few laptops around the same cost which include a GTX 1050, however they're all 2GB models at that price point.
Notebook Check did state there's about a 30% increase in power with the 1050 when compared to the 960M, however does that same improvement carry over even when comparing the 4GB 960M to the 2GB 1050, or is that just when compared to like GB models?
Also, I was PMed about a Dell i7559 at $800, $50 less than the Acer, with similar specs, with the addition of an 8GB SSD. Looking further I found virtually the same machine as suggested, but with a 4K touchscreen display at $820:
https://www.amazon.com/Dell-i7559-5012GRY-3840x2160-Touchscreen-i7-6700HQ/dp/B015PYZI8E
Is this a more solid machine for the cost, or should I still be looking at something with a 1050?
AWESOME! Thanks everyone.
4K is my real need from what I'm looking at. Found this which seems to tick the boxes. Although its over 30% (inc exchange rate)more in Canada from the same friggin laptop :(

What about this here: Dell Inspiron i7559-5012GRY 15.6" UHD (3840x2160) 4k Touchscreen Laptop (Intel Quad Core i7-6700HQ, 8 GB RAM, 1 TB HDD + 8 GB SSD) NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960M
And according to Amazon it has an IPS
What about this laptop for gaming as a replacement. I will need one for University soon. So I suppose I can manage to justify the purchase. Especially with tax season and all.
I would recommend this Dell Inspiron i7559-2512BLK because it has the almost perfect combination between gaming, daily usage, value for money, and battery life , because it comes with Intel Quad Core i7-6700HQ 2.6 GHz Processor(one of the best CPU in the market); NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960M 4GB GDDR5(one of the best GPU in the market for your budget), 8 GB DDR3L SDRAM, 1 TB HDD + 8 GB SSD Hybrid Drive Storage; Optical Drive Not included, 15.6 Inch FHD (1920 x 1080 pixels) LED-lit Truelife Screen, with batter life of 5.5 to 7.5 with light to moderate usage and since your budget allows it, you can add a SSD or extra 8 GB ram or both for better performance over all.
+1 for the Dell Inspirion, but I would actually recommend this configuration because it comes with Microsoft Signature Edition which means no bloat ware to slow your laptop, and with higher screen Resolution for better CAD and gaming experience and the touch screen is a nice bonus Pro tip: Since the laptop is well under your budget you can buy Accidental Damage Protection(You will hate paying for it, but you will love yourself for doing it if something ever happened to your 950+ USD laptop)
Since he is only interested in WOW then I would recommend this Dell Inspiron i7559 because it comes with Intel Core i7, 8 GB RAM, 1 TB HDD + 8 GB SSD) NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960M, Microsoft Signature Edition.
If he wants something to play newer games as well he might want to consider GPU 970M, however laptops with this GPU in this price range is much heavier (we are talking 7.5+ lbs)
Currently using the Dell Inspiron 7559-5012 (Gray) - It's about $1000, has a 4K 15' touchscreen, an i7 processor, GTX 960M 4gb, 1tb hard drive, and 8 GB memory - the downside is that it's bulky and heavier relative to the equivalent XPS/Zenbook/MacBook - I have a hard time lifting it off the table with one hand. The battery life also gets between 3.5 and 5 hours using the web/watching videos and about 1-2 when gaming. I'm actually returning this for the $1500 Asus Zenbook Pro since you're on a budget and performance is important, I think this laptop is pretty cost-efficient.
https://www.amazon.com/Dell-i7559-5012GRY-Touchscreen-Generation-Microsoft/dp/B015PYZI8E
Get this Dell Inspiron i7559-5012GRY laptop. It would be an awesome pick based on your criteria and tasks you will be doing.
If your on a tight budget I would get the normal one and try to get rid of the bloatware on your own (can take from half and hour to few hours depending on your experience), if you budget is not an issue, or if you are "computer literate" I would go with This one
This Dell Inspiron i7559 15.6" UHD Gaming Laptop would be a great choice for you. It has an extremely good performance level with a brilliant processor, great 16 GB RAM, wonderful screen resolution, a solid gtx 960 dedicated graphics card and of course a great storage with speed hosting a 1 TB HDD plus a 128 GB SSD.. This laptop also has a good build quality and a nice battery life.
Ah I feel like an idiot; this was the laptop I was referring to with the 8GB SSD. I had heard the top level Dell - 7559 (not the one linked) was an incredible laptop. Thanks for all your help. I'll actually be able to make an informed decision now.
This Dell Inspiron i7559-5012GRY would be perfect for you. It is very powerful , yet light weighted- something that all college students looking for a laptop should consider. This laptop has a wonderful processor, great dedicated graphics card, nice storage and decent memory. I will run those games you mentioned easily giving you the required frame rates. Importantly also, it has a great battery life, so you won't have to worry about always staying beside a plug. You like touch screen, and it does have a great quality touch screen in addition to a nice quality build and solid keyboard.
The Inspiron actully comes with slightly different designs and with different configurations. Have you looked at the Dell Inspiron i7559-5012GRY?
The laptops you mention have either 950M or 960M graphics card. Since you want to play games, I would focus on the ones with a 960M.
I think the i7559-763BLK you mention is a reasonable choice. If you want a faster CPU and a higher resolution screen (could be nice for photos, movies, school work), the i7559-5012GRY may also be an option:
http://www.amazon.com/Dell-i7559-5012GRY-Touchscreen-Generation-Microsoft/dp/B015PYZI8E
With that budget, I definitely recommend this laptop. It will do a terrific job for you. it is light weighted, professional looking and of course has lots of power under its belt courtesy of its 6th generation quad core i7 processor, 16 GB RAM , the Nvidia GTX 960 dedicated graphics card. It also has an excellent storage with a 1 TB HDD and a 128 GB SSD which will give much needed speed. How could I forget to mention it's incredible battery life of over 10 hours.. This laptop also has a decent screen resolution. It will run League of Legends on ultra settings easily.
Seems slightly overpriced even after the discount for what you get. However when you account for the ability to improve and expand the hardware its probably an equivalent option. main note is that its graphics card is of much lower quality than what i have been seeing at this price point. particularly note this configuration of the 7559 http://www.amazon.com/dp/B015PYZI8E/ref=twister_B016VLEM5K?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1#Ask
I think this would be a decent choice for her.
You can get decent laptops for this sort of price, I would go down that route. My personal reccomendation would be a high specced Dell Inspiron 15 7000, what it lacks in RAM, it makes up for in processing power and GPU power (great for video editing and etc. I believe). The folks at /r/SuggestALaptop may be able to help.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B015PYZI8E/ref=ask_ql_qh_dp_hza
Sorry if this is a noob question but will this work well if I run it in 4K/60?
Holy fuck this one has a 4K? https://www.amazon.com/Dell-i7559-5012GRY-3840x2160-Touchscreen-i7-6700HQ/dp/B015PYZI8E/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1505771405&sr=8-2&keywords=dell+7559
Can't tell if it has USB-C though
What about this?
How about this?
What about this?
How about this?
I would expect the build quality to be pretty bad, but the build quality of pretty much any laptop under $1000 isn't going to be great.
If you want a bit better build quality and you're fine with a bit more weight (5.8 lbs), you could look at the Dell Inspiron 7559 with a 4K Touchscreen display. It has a Quad Core i7 and a GTX 960M. It's a bit more at $830 though.
Edit: it can also be found New Open box on ebay for a bit cheaper
Best option would be to spend more for this, unless you wanted to buy used/refurbished.
I also had my eye on this Dell Inspiron i7559 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B015PYZI8E/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_eHbxzbREKMZPJ
How about this?
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B015PYZI8E/ref=psdc_13896615011_t1_B06XFGF7SN so would something like this work? This model has 4k resolution
I assume you are referring to this one if yes then , there is also this one it is not exactly cheaper, but it comes with double the ram and with an extra 256 GB SSD to save you the trouble of DIY upgrading the dell, there is also this ASUS X550VX-MH71 and HP Touch 15-bc051 but both build quality is a little meh in comparsion to the dell or the lenovo.
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B015PYZI8E/ref=psdc_13896615011_t1_B06XFGF7SN so would this display and model of Dell 7567 be good?
Dell This laptop has a quad core i7 cpu, 960m graphics,1 tb hdd,4k touch display. The main downfall here is 8 gb of RAM.
Lenovo This laptop has a dual core i7, 12gb RAM, 940MX, 1tb hdd,1080p screen. Downfall here is the dual core.
Acer This laptop is similar to the lenovo with a dual core i7, 8gb RAM, 1080p screen, 940mx, but has a 256gb ssd not hdd. downfalls is small storage.
IMO: the best laptop here is the dell. Because of your designing in adobe products you should also take a google around checking out the color accuracy in both srgb and adobe rgb on the screens. It is 25% off where i am not sure about you. I wouldn't just take my advice but rather google around searching with keywords like "best laptop for Photoshop under $xxx". Because of your designing in adobe products you should also take a google around checking out the color accuracy in both srgb and adobe rgb on the screens. Im sure you will find one that suits your needs just fine. and i wish you goodluck. :)))

They do a lot of stuff with budget gaming laptops. Specifically look at their 800 and 500 dollar gaming laptops.
Here is Austin Evans talking about a $500 gaming laptop https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8h3AD2grovo
sorry that I just left you a bunch of youtube links but they talk about them and you can see what you can get out of each one.
Just to clarify, for the first one, you will not be able to GAME in 4k, the graphics card cant handle that, but you will be able to watch youtube videos, shows, movies etc. in 4k. It has a 4k screen, touch screen, and a core i7 so it will be the best for school and shows, but the 2nd one I listed would be best for gaming.
Youre asking a lot for a sub $1,000 laptop.
For amazon only purchases, this is the beset i can recommend. Its a well known and acclaimed bloatware free laptop with good hardware.
For a nominal amount more, you can purchase directly from dell and get a much nicer laptop with a far superior graphics card. Here is the link
http://www.dell.com/en-us/shop/productdetails/inspiron-15-7567-laptop/fncwf512s
I highly recommend the newer GTX 1050 ti equipped model from Dell directly. Its a bargain, especially with a full quad core i7.
How does that compare to https://www.amazon.com/Dell-i7559-5012GRY-3840x2160-Touchscreen-i7-6700HQ/dp/B015PYZI8E/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1486081502&sr=8-1&keywords=Dell+Inspiron+7567
Is this one worth the extra $50?
Question for those of you experienced with Citi Price Rewind. I want to buy a laptop on Amazon using a bunch of my $25 Fiveback cards. Specifically, this one.. I want to buy it from Amazon because it will arrive by Saturday with Prime and I can use Amazon credit from my FBs. However, Microsoft has the same laptop for about $90 cheaper. Can I just put $90 on my Citi Prestige and immediately file a claim with Citi to get the difference?
I assume you are referring to this if that is the case, then yes, that would be a great option too, and better for gaming with the 960M GPU, but since your budget allows it, I would get this configuration. the extra ram and SSD will make a big difference
This Dell Inspiron i7559 would be a decent choice for you.
since 800 UK is almost 1100 USD then I would recommend Dell Inspiron i7559-5012 it comes with Intel Quad Core i7-6700HQ 2.6 GHz Processor, 8 GB DDR3L SDRAM,1 TB HDD + 8 GB SSD Hybrid Drive Storage,15.6 Inch UHD (3840 x 2160 pixels) LED-lit Truelife Touchscreen.
It is light enough for you to move around with and it is powerful enough to run Warhammer on high settings as per this minimum requirement if you don't like it or it is over budget due to the conversion rate you are welcome to check more gaming laptops recommendation for that price range on my website http://laptoplegend.com/2016/3-best-gaming-laptop-1000-2016/
I just bought the Dell 7559 2 weeks ago. I love it so far. Got this version for around $880. If you have any questions about the laptop let me know.
The Dell Inspiron i7559-5012GRY would be a decent option.
Is this the one you will be getting ?
What about the Dell Inspiron i7559-5012GRY?
Intel Quad Core i7-6700HQ 2.6 GHz Processor 8 GB DDR3L SDRAM 1 TB HDD + 8 GB SSD Hybrid Drive Storage; Optical Drive Not included 15.6 Inch UHD (3840 x 2160 pixels) LED-lit Truelife Touchscreen Windows 10 Operating System; Matte Black featuring Gray Chassis
http://www.amazon.com/Dell-i7559-5012GRY-Touchscreen-Generation-Microsoft/dp/B015PYZI8E
It has a 960M graphics card. Here is the kind of gaming performance you can expect for that:
http://www.notebookcheck.net/NVIDIA-GeForce-GTX-960M.138006.0.html
(scroll down to Game Benchmarks)
CS:GO and Skyrim should be no problem, but please note that Fallout 4 is more around 30 FPS on high, and 58 FPS on medium.
If you want better graphics, you need a 970M, which is around $1500 with touchscreen, or $1300 without, for example the GIGABYTE P34Wv5-SL1:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834233140
The Dell Inspiron i7559-5012GRY would be a very good choice... If you don't want the touch screen option, then you could get the same laptop without touch screen option for less. Any of these , based on they specs, built quality , weight etc , would do a great job for you whether completing tasks for college such as notes taking or gaming.
