A Denman brush! (Sorry for the crappy link, on mobile) https://www.amazon.com/Denman-Cushion-Brush-Nylon-Bristles/dp/B00197623M
You can pull the rubber base off the handle and remove rows to your liking. I bought a 7 row brush but have since modified it to 4 rows.
This is the brush I have, this isn't a detangling brush because the rows are too far apart. So this brush you would use after products are in your hair https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00197623M/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_glt_fabc_526WDHS9MNM7XEDN2YQ4?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
I just use a wide tooth comb for detangling
I ask because Denman is a brand with a lot of different brushes. I'm really new proper hair care and just picking up tips from peeps with similar looking hair. Thanks!
sure! here's the link. it's extremely pricey on amazon right now, so maybe you can wait till the price goes down like i did. i've also seen denman brushes on sites like naturallyyounme on discount
How much do you do for your curls if you don’t mind me asking? I don’t have much of a routine but I’ve found that a tangle teaser and the deman brush do wonders for defining curls. I also use the Shea moisture shampoo and conditioner then either Shea butter, blue magic or a styling mousse :)
Hi fellow Canadian! I will shamefully admit that I got mine from Amazon... I can't speak to the authenticity however. Reading those reviews definitely makes me wonder if I got the real thing... but the one I have works well.
Maybe try the official Denman store online?
FWIW I've also tried styling with a wet brush before I got this one and it worked pretty well.
It’s great for enhancing definition for various curl patterns. Denman Classic Styling Brush 7 Rows - D3 - Hair Brush for Blow-Drying & Styling – Detangling, Separating, Shaping & Defining Curls https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00197623M/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_fabc_.3RPFbBY4N8KE
I got mine of of Amazon. The thing about Amazon is being careful about the seller. What I did was make sure that the seller was actually the Denman company. This is the one I bought. You'll notice it's the 7 row D3. 5-7 rows is really all anyone needs. Most people go with the 7. It allows a little more flexibility when removing rows if needed.
The real question is how far apart the bristles need to be. The 5 row might be better for curlier hair and the 7 or 9 row might be better for finer, wavier hair. The curlier your hair, the farther apart the bristles should be. The more fine and wavy your hair is, the closer together they should be. So, if you have type 4 hair, you'll want to go with the D41 model because the bristles are farther apart within the rows to prevent snags.
Any time I order from Amazon, I look at the seller of the product I'm looking for. If the company I'm looking for doesn't sell directly on Amazon, I look for Amazon to be the seller. You're taking a risk ordering from some other warehouse company that might be selling fakes.
First, I'll tell you the trick to not getting duped on Amazon by counterfeit listings. This is the Denman brush I bought. You'll notice the seller is actually Denman Brush. Even though it's fulfilled by Amazon, it actually came from the Denman factory. I won't buy hair products that aren't sold by the original company. If they don't sell on Amazon, I order from the company directly from their website.
As far as reducing hair loss, you have to make sure your hair has plenty of slip before running anything through it, even fingers. So, your hair has to have plenty of conditioner in it. At the very least, it still has to have the feeling of wet seaweed even if you've rinsed most or all of your conditioner out. The curl creams I use are pretty slippery, so I don't use the brush without them. I also make sure I've at least finger detangled before I use it. I've pulled maybe 2 or 3 hairs out of that brush since I bought it in early September. Those few hairs were from a day I was doing a full refresh and didn't have enough slippery product in my hair for fear of weighing it down.
Hi! Some of the people on here still brush their hair in the shower while conditioning. If you find the no-brush thing doesn't work out well for you, I'd recommend this brush, it's a CG cult-classic:
I like it, its versatile for styling
In my post history, the picture in the black top is styled by twirling with the Denman
The more recent picture (and what I do now) is brush upside down, being careful to not stick to the back of my head, and let curls form more naturally with tension styling. This is much faster and gives me more volume. This Inge Curls videos explains exactly what I do with the back

I bought mine from Boots and have the classic D3 Denman with 7 rows. I experimented with removing some rows but prefer it with all 7.
Edit: if you have Prime its a little cheaper
Are you in the US? I bought my Denman brush from them and have had no issues with it.
I got this one: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00197623M/ref=ppx\_yo\_dt\_b\_search\_asin\_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

It’s the Denman D3 Classic 7 Row
I washed with Curlsmith's scalp line (primer, scrub, and conditioner). I added a wee bit of the weightless leave-in and ran things through with a denman brush. I finished with Bouncecurl's creme gel.
I also scrunched the living heck out of it at multiple stages.
Also I love you all.
Thanks! It’s a styling brush that’s become quite popular for curlies
I picked it up at a drug store, it’s pretty easy to find.
As for my twisting method, I brush through sections with the Denman brush, curving as I get to the end, the. scrunching/shaking out each section for a good uniform curl. That gives me shrinkage more than anything. Then, starting at the top of my hair, I take a section, fairy small, about 3-5 curls, put the brush in at my roots, and then brush down the hair, twisting as I go.
Today I did it with my fingers, which is essentially the same thing, just taking 3-5 curls and twisting them (fairly tightly but loose enough that as they dry they poof out to about double the diameter) down to the ends. Tutorial Here
I do mine tighter than the girl in the video but that is the technique. As I said in my routine, then I air dried but I can diffuse these twists too.
Hope this helped! :)
The denman brush is a popular brush people use to style their curly hair. You’d want to use it shortly after apply your product. The idea is that brushing the hair with the brush distributes product as well as creates better curl clumps. I got it from amazon here: Denman Cushion Brush Nylon Bristles, 7-Row https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00197623M/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apip_hqJhzRUtaY6zN
There are two ways I’ve seen people use it. The most common way is to take a section of hair, apply product, and then brush it through, making sure to rotate the brush at the ends. Here’s a video of someone doing it this way: https://youtu.be/KblOiRRgGjE (the actual styling happens about five minutes in)
Another way I saw someone use it was to twist the brush around a section of hair. This leaves a curly clump of hair. I’ve tried it myself and it worked well. This is probably best for wavy/ looser curls: https://youtu.be/waKelfoOfBc (styling starts one and a half minutes into the video)
My favorite gel right now is the Goddess Curls Botanical Gelle. It’s protein free and curly girl friendly. I get it cheapest from target. I’ve also used homemade flax seed gel.
I am just always interested in seeing everyone's routines. (Plus I think it's in the rules to post routine? Either way, it is helpful all around.)
I'm still trying to learn my hair myself. But something I know that helps a lot of people is clipping your roots for volume. (If volume is something you like anyway.)
Denman brushes are also popular for brushing in the shower. Supposed to help with curl definition. (I'm still learning so mine is trial & error..)
Awesome thanks. Is this the denman 7 Denman Cushion Brush Nylon Bristles, 7-Row https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00197623M/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_W6fxCbC1WVATF
