I have seborrheic dermatitis and the zinc soap helps with that. Because I do the CG method, I can't use dandruff shampoos. I use this stuff just on my scalp and it doesn't seem to hurt my curls. It's a bit expensive, but I only use it once every week or two. Here's the one I buy:
I know I am a little late, but I created a Reddit account JUST to post this in hopes that it helps someone.
I was diagnosed with PD a while back and tried SO many things (zero therapy, Eucrisa, coconut oil, sulfate wash, vanicream cleanser, etc.)
My "miracle" has been Pyrithione Zinc (ZnP) Bar Soap. I use an incredibly affordable version from Amazon (https://www.amazon.com/DermaHarmony-Pyrithione-Zinc-ZnP-Soap/dp/B00MWB0ZGE/ref=cm_cr_arp_d_product_top?ie=UTF8&th=1) and my face has almost completely cleared in (3) days.
My routine, morning and night (on the PD area only) is to lather the zinc bar soap up, wash and rinse well, lightly pat dry, follow up with a small amount of metronidazole cream (rubbed in well), wait for it to absorb completely, apply YORO Organic Manuka Honey cream, and done.
This combination has been an absolute live saver for me. No more bumps, dryness, redness.. nothing!
I am so happpppyyy!
I hope this helps someone!
My boyfriend has seborrheic dermatitis and I got him this soap off amazon and he swears by it. He uses it daily and it has basically gotten rid of the red splotchy patches he had before. On days he doesn’t use it, the splotches sometimes creep back. He gets the condition both on his head and forehead and he just uses this soap for his hair and face.

Hey :-) I recently started using this: https://www.amazon.com/DermaHarmony-Pyrithione-Zinc-ZnP-Soap/dp/B00MWB0ZGE Just a little lather & put on for 30 seconds then wash off. Before I was just using water, but I also feel something like this might help with keeping the skin clean & it’s made for seb derm.
No it's definitely yeast, it clears up with miconazole. The thing is once the yeast colonizes your skin it's very hard to get it to leave. Careful washing and drying don't seem to help.
I just looked on Amazon and they have zinc soap. https://www.amazon.com/DermaHarmony-Pyrithione-Zinc-ZnP-Soap/dp/B00MWB0ZGE
Not stupid at all!!! Biggest tip is to let the soap sit on the area for 1-2 minutes. That way your skin gets the most it can out of it.
Honestly what I do is just put the soap on both hands and try to reach every part on my back as I weirdly move around lol.
If you have a hand towel (just any towel bigger than a washcloth, smaller than a bath towel), you can wet that, apply the soap onto it, grab each end of the towel, and move it side to side on your back. Kinda like how’d you dry your back!
I’m sure TJ Maxx, Marshall’s, any of those kinds of stores sell back scrubbers. You’re able to get every part of your back without the hassle, so I would invest in that!
I haven’t had bacne in a while so I completely forgot about the product I used, my bad!!!Pyrithione Zinc soap is SO GOOD. Here’s the specific one I used: DermaHarmony 2% Pyrithione Zinc (ZnP) Bar Soap 4 oz - Crafted for Those with Skin Conditions - Seborrheic Dermatitis, Dandruff, Psoriasis, Eczema, etc. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00MWB0ZGE/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_4HD3FMDMZ41W80MXR6MS?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
Pretty cheap and lasts a while!
I hope this helped!!! :)
It works well! I started with using absolutely nothing but water for a month, then added this and plain squalene oil from the ordinary as moisturizer. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00MWB0ZGE/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_JEEHEVY930BN2BTCZKKR?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
Nizoral made me worse too! I had best success with this bar soap below, and using very few skincare products/sticking to fungal acne safe ones. I’ve slowly been able to add gunner stuff back in.
DermaHarmony 2% Pyrithione Zinc (ZnP) Bar Soap 4 oz - Crafted for Those with Skin Conditions - Seborrheic Dermatitis, Dandruff, Psoriasis, Eczema, etc. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00MWB0ZGE/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_i_WYYBBH5N0HB7HZ5S9504?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
I tried to get rid of back acne for decades, nothing worked until I found this soap. This stuff is magic: https://www.amazon.com/DermaHarmony-Pyrithione-Zinc-ZnP-Soap/dp/B00MWB0ZGE?pd_rd_w=McaR7&pf_rd_p=ee521540-07c2-4687-9605-13c98e32ab2c&pf_rd_r=ZF9CPW9FX2NYD018WHHV&pd_rd_r=d25ba046-7298-471c-95e8-d66bcbaae5e6&pd_rd_wg=VbbY5&pd_r...
I got this on Amazon
DermaHarmony 2% Pyrithione Zinc (ZnP) Bar Soap 4 oz - Crafted for Those with Skin Conditions - Seborrheic Dermatitis, Dandruff, Psoriasis, Eczema, etc. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00MWB0ZGE/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_i_MPFHK52D3DVVS0P21JH6?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
Sorry I can’t read this morning lol. You can try aquaphor healing ointment on top of the moisturizer. If it doesn’t help, it might be seborrheic dermatitis.
You’d need a zinc pyrithione soap to clear that up. Like this one https://www.amazon.com/DermaHarmony-Pyrithione-Zinc-ZnP-Soap/dp/B00MWB0ZGE/
Its good to moisturize even oily skin since oily skin can become dehydrated without moisturizer. You can have oily and dehydrated skin at the same time.
If your beard and eyebrow area is flakey, you might have seborrheic dermatitis.
Try using this pyrithione zinc soap before moisturizer.
You can still use your regular cetaphil cleanser in the non flakey areas and the zinc soap in the flakey areas.
I’m leaning towards seborrheic dermatitis then since you’ve been using curology for so long and because of where the dryness is located.
I suggest a pyrithione zinc soap/wash like this one: https://www.amazon.com/DermaHarmony-Pyrithione-Zinc-ZnP-Soap/dp/B00MWB0ZGE/
I’d avoid using the neutrogena cleanser in this area while using the zinc soap to prevent over cleansing and causing more dryness. But you can still use the neutrogena cleanser on the rest of your face and just use the zinc soap in this area. You can use the zinc soap twice a day and continue with your regular routine.
If a month passes with no results, you might need something stronger and I’d suggest seeing a dermatologist.
I am not a doctor but pyrithione zinc is great for helping seb dermatitis.
Here is a good face wash bar soap with pyrithione zinc: https://www.amazon.com/DermaHarmony-Pyrithione-Zinc-ZnP-Soap/dp/B00MWB0ZGE/
Also if Zyrtec helped stop the itching, you’re probably allergic to something in vanicream so I’d advise not using it.
Go back to a moisturizer that didn’t cause any itching if you have one and try the bar soap. It can take many weeks to see results so just be consistent.
If it’s itchy and tret isn’t working, I suspect it might be fungal acne after all. Even if your current products are FA safe, once FA is triggered, it often needs an anti fungal treatment to be cleared. I can’t really tell from the photo if it’s fungal or not.
I wouldn’t recommend adding in AHA while using tret, that can cause over exfoliation.
If you look for a soap/wash with pyrithione zinc or ketoconazole, this can help with fungal acne.
Nizoral shampoo contains ketoconazole but I personally found it super drying. So you might want to try something gentler first.
Here is a zinc bar soap that is gentler : https://www.amazon.com/DermaHarmony-Pyrithione-Zinc-ZnP-Soap/dp/B00MWB0ZGE/
You can use this instead of the BP wash either in the AM or PM. It definitely doesn’t hurt to try. It took me about a month or more to clear my fungal acne with treatment.
Zinc soap is the only right answer! I use this: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00MWB0ZGE/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_4JRT3ZMSDH8EPMVNJNGV?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
Head & Shoulders also does the trick, but I’m not sure I’d recommend it for long term use 😂
I had it for decades, nothing worked until using zinc soap. https://www.amazon.com/DermaHarmony-Pyrithione-Zinc-ZnP-Soap/dp/B00MWB0ZGE/ref=sr_1_6?crid=3IS1KNUBOE2RH&dchild=1&keywords=zinc+soap+bar+for+acne&qid=1629578183&sprefix=Zinc+soap%2Caps%2C217&sr=8-6
Just a bar soap ZP, worked great for a while then faded in efficiency over-time... Like everything else.
DermaHarmony https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00MWB0ZGE/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_glt_fabc_M9T2FBQY1MG2Y181CRZR was better than the Noble Formula one in my experience.
Yes and what has helped me most for those areas on my body is this soap, I order it from Amazon and have had great results! DermaHarmony 2% Pyrithione Zinc (ZnP) Bar Soap 4 oz - Crafted for Those with Skin Conditions - Seborrheic Dermatitis, Dandruff, Psoriasis, Eczema, etc. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00MWB0ZGE/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glc_fabc_bmNbGbJSYTTTV
The only soap I’ve tried so far that actually helps with my body fungal acne is a DermaHarmony 2% Zinc bar soap. I order it from Amazon. I don’t use it all over just on problem areas (chest, back, shoulders, etc.). Good luck! Hi there!
I just wanted to let you know that Automod has removed your comment because it contains an Amazon referral link, which we don't allow in the sub.
Could you please edit the URL so that everything from (and including) "tag=" is removed? That way, the product page will still be visible - but no one can make a profit from the link. Here's the tag-free URL for an easy copy & paste:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00MWB0ZGE/
If you've done that, please reply to this message so I can approve your comment. Thank you!
I've seen these bars on Amazon that contain only zinc. This is on the regular Amazon site, but I believe they may be available for worldwide shipping.
I'm not sure if it's truly related to hypothyroidism, but I do have bouts of folliculitis, usually following a viral infection, and what seems to help me clear it up fast is using a bar of zinc soap on the affected area every day. I let it sit a bit before rinsing. It's worth a shot!
I don’t think this will necessarily cure it but I used this soap when I had a different skin condition (pityriasis rosea) and it provided a lot of relief and improvement for me. I read that you also have seborrheic dermatitis which is technically what it’s primarily used for but since it has both antifungal and antibacterial properties, it’s pretty multi-functional for different skin conditions!
If you're interested in a topical treatment (which might interfere less with your current medications) this zinc soap I got from amazon was cheap and effective for me.
It's not supposed to be irritating, no. The Noble vegan formula contains cocoa butter, which breaks some people out, though (regular has emu oil). Perhaps you are sensitive to one of the ingredients? I use DermaHarmony and find it works well. Good luck!
I haven't tried this brand but I have tried dermaharmony.
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00MWB0ZGE
As far as I can tell, it's vegan. I'm a vegetarian and didn't buy the brand you referenced because of that.
Truthfully, the soap didn't do anything for me but it didn't make it worse. There's quite a few pyrithione zinc soaps on Amazon to pick from.
The medication isn't formulated for body acne but if you send them your photos of the body areas they'll give you advice! Generally they recommend zinc soap, like a previous user linked.
I have had great success using a cheaper brand instead that's on amazon http://www.amazon.com/Pyrithione-Zinc-Therapy-Soap-Oz/dp/B00MWB0ZGE
If you want to get an alternate brand, you're going to want at least 2% zinc.
I bought this one because it's cheaper. (not affiliated) I didn't include it in the first post, but it really works on my bacne! Face acne is a bit more stubborn. I hope it helps you:)
Zinc bar soap cleared up mine a ton! I leave the lather on my skin for a few minutes while showering. Noble gets recommended a lot, now I don't trust that either:( I bought this brand because it was cheaper.
Suffered from back acne for decades, tried everything and nothing worked until getting zinc soap. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00MWB0ZGE/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Ok buckle up cuz it's kind of intense haha! At night, I wash my face with Vanicream Gentle Cleanser and use a French Clay Konjac sponge to exfoliate. Sometimes after that I tone with Sensibio Micellar water (this is also a great makeup remover). While my face is still wet, I apply Hada Labo Skin Plumping Gel. Then after that I apply Cerave PM as a moisturizer.
If I've just gotten out of the shower (I'm a morning shower-er) I apply Hada Labo Skin plumping Gel while my face is still wet, then moisturize with Avene Cicalfate Cream with a few drops of Timeless Squalane oil. I'm also working from home right now, so I'm able to do the 3 hour Manuka Honey face masks that everyone on here talks about. I think they work really well. I do that like every 3 days but you're only supposed to do it that frequently for 3 weeks. I get that this is not super convenient for everyone, so I think even if you can do it for an hour that's probably fine. I use this Manuka honey https://www.pharmaca.com/wedderspoon-raw-manuka-honey-kfactor-16-250g?gclid=EAIaIQobChMI-8_v9qa93QIVzWV-Ch1wHwlrEAkYCCABEgIZNvD_BwE Kinda pricey but works!
Also, when my seb derm was real bad, I would use this soap on my face in the shower https://www.amazon.com/DermaHarmony-Pyrithione-Zinc-ZnP-Soap/dp/B00MWB0ZGE/ref=pd_sim_194_5?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=B00MWB0ZGE&pd_rd_r=bb9e0452-b8fa-11e8-940e-2fb2dccbe537&pd_rd_w=k2ums&pd_rd_wg=u331n&pf_rd_i=desktop-dp-sims&pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_p=18bb0b78-4200-49b9-ac91-f141d61a1780&pf_rd_r=B1P2CXX7AVQRMAG5Q3D9&pf_rd_s=desktop-dp-sims&pf_rd_t=40701&refRID=B1P2CXX7AVQRMAG5Q3D9&th=1 For me, zinc was really helping in getting rid of the flakes! I would leave it on for like maybe 20 seconds then wash it off. I don't really have to do this anymore now that it's toned down.
Its really important to look at the products you're using and make sure they have nothing in them that aggravate seb derm! Oils (except for a choice few) are not your friend. https://simpleskincarescience.com/fungal-acne-malassezia-pityrosporum-routines/ If you scroll to the bottom of this article, there is a list of products that don't mess with your skin. this helped me a lot!
Also y'know drink water get sleep etc etc
Best of luck!

Head and Shoulders might be easier on you than Nizoral. A good zinc soap bar will help, too. I use this one: https://smile.amazon.com/DermaHarmony-Pyrithione-Zinc-ZnP-Soap/dp/B00MWB0ZGE/ref=sxts_rp_s1_0?crid=36POIRF8WACFR&cv_ct_cx=zinc+soap+bar&keywords=zinc+soap+bar&pd_rd_i=B00MWB0ZGE&pd_rd_r=b23b7e98-8894-42aa-abb9-232109157fd2&pd_rd_w=OCqfJ&pd_rd_wg=KZQIy&pf_rd_p=dc8286ba-5f1e-4679-adde-8b7fe66c128e&pf_rd_r=050BZ8GEMQMYQGHRM10X&psc=1&qid=1648562498&sprefix=zinc+soap+bar%2Caps%2C113&sr=1-1-5e1b2986-06e6-4004-a85e-73bfa3ee44fe
The notes about your skin barrier are spot-on, too.
Also, get a prescription for Fluconazole, if you haven't already.
Sending good thoughts!

I'd guess that it varies of course, but Tinactin worked better for me than Lotrimin and I even tried the Lotrimin Ultra and it just would not cure it. slowed it down, but that's it. I've haven't wanted to go the oral route yet as from what I understand it can be hard on your liver. This soap seems to be helping as well. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00MWB0ZGE/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o06_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I used Head & Shoulders on my face and chest, and it got rid of my fungal acne. Perhaps you can try this soap (WHICH I DIDN'T USE!) with the same active ingredient: zinc pyrithione?

This is what I'm using my diet seems to trigger flare-ups but I have it somewhat controlled. I'd suggest seeing a doctor and requesting blood work, it could be an Immune system disorder. DO you drink alcohol you should probably stop. Wash all bedding and towels don't use that trimmer again until you disinfect it. Eat healthy get more sun exposure limit sugar intake.
I'm pretty sure I'm battling fungal acne, so I've gone back to only basics. I've added in an OTC antifungal cream twice daily, and just ordered this bar and this ointment. I plan to use the antifungal cream twice daily, and want to use the bar and ointment (as a wash off mask) a few times per week, I'm thinking Monday/Wednesday/Friday in the evenings. I'm not sure about the order of use, though. My current routine is:
AM
PM
I think the zinc bar is a fairly high pH, so I'm not sure if I should use it before or after my foaming cleanser. Or maybe in place of it on those nights? Any input is much appreciated!
Tenia Versicolor. My bf and I have it too. Very common, almost symptomless skin disease. It's simply an imbalance of yeast on your skin and afaik it is not contagious. I had it all over my back, some spots on my chest, and also in my private areas. It frightened me but it is nothing to be worried about although it is unsightly.
We have had luck with selsun blue. Put it on full strength (use a tiny bit of water to lather if you need to) and leave it for 30 min to an hour - go shirtless in the sun with it on your skin for bonus effectiveness points. If you don't live with someone who can get it onto your back for you, invest in a bath brush! Super helpful. Also using those exfoliating gloves to rub the soap in seems to help, it also feels really good.
We have also been using bars of zinc soap which has seemed to help clear it up and keep breakouts away.
Finally, when I was first taking action against tenia, I used a few drops of tea tree oil in coconut oil and used it as a lotion on my spots.
I listed all the methods I used to help rid myself of it, they may work for you or they may not. Mine cleared up rather quickly (within 2 weeks) and my boyfriends is on the way to clearing up. He has had it for years (just assumed that was the way his skin was) so his rash is more "compounded" and thick. Yours looks more like mine and it should clear up quickly.
Some doctors will prescribe an anti fungal but tbh I don't think those will be super effective as I have taken those for unrelated infections and though I'm not a doctor I think the yeast can develop a resistance quickly. Plus these medications have other side effects. My completely unprofessional opinion is to try a medication as a last resort.
From what I've read, if you have this condition it is likely you will have flare ups from time to time. I now wash with the zinc soap every day and selsun blue once a week which I hope will keep the condition at bay. Some articles I've read say to sleep in clean sheets every night or to wear clean clothes every day but this didn't seem to reinfect me. I generally change my sheets every week and wear the same pajamas for 3 nights in a row.
Good luck and I hope you are able to get rid of it quickly!

I thought originally it was seborrheic dermatitis. I went to a dermatologist and was prescribed keto cream. I continued to use this for about 7 months with little positive response.
It actually seemed to spread to my chin or it's coincidental. It's driving me crazy :(
About three months ago I went to a new derm and was prescribed elidel cream.
I have used it every day for the last few months and it seemed better at first but now it's just flaking constantly.
How do I know what this is? Is it hormonal?
I'm trans and have recently changed hormones slightly but it wasn't around when the chin started.
I do shave every other day but as of this week I have put a pause on to see it helps relieve some of it.
I'm at a loss. I can't remove hair right now. Make up burns the effected skin but I do wear it occasionally if it's too troubling for me.

Edit: Thank you in advance.
I ordered one on Amazon, but soap tends to have a higher pH ans I haven't found a low pH alternative yet. I ordered this one. I think this one may be worth checking out edit formatting ingredient of second bar sound promising, no sodium hydroxide although the ingredients may be a partial list as it is imported and you have to order from Paraguay: Linum Usitatissimun Seed Oil, Propilene Glicol, Zinc Pyrithione
