You quoted the exact prices that GoodRx ads have.
Also, adapalene isn’t tretinoin. Adapalene is usually something your insurance wants you to try is tread of tret because it’s cheaper. I think the prices you’re quoting for adapalene are what I used to pay for tret- actually $268 seems a little high, even for tretinoin!
And Amazon seems to be selling name brand Differin for $12.88. I think I bought name brand Differin at RiteAid for about $43 a few weeks ago. Why is the pharmacy charging that much for generic adapalene?
I don’t mean to be super critical or anything, but this all seems weird to me. : /
Edit- I fucked up, guys. This is a real person who was genuinely excited to share something that helped them, and I was suspicious and critical and hurt their feelings. They were being happy and helpful, and I was a jerk about it. I’m really sorry for about it, but don’t downvote them. They felt attacked and responded. I get it.

I mean I got mine from the pharmacy so I’m not too sure what’s legit or not. But that’s what it should like like as a gel form. There’s also a cream form slightly different bottle. Also I would suggest using nizerol anti dandruff shampoo as a mask. For 30 mins. That should also help
So I have a couple follow up questions :) Do you use this product for the retinoid? https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B07L1PHSY9/ref=crt_ewc_title_dp_1?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER
If so, do you just spot it on certain spots, or run it in like a cream all over? I notice Differin also has a dark spot product, do you have any knowledge on that?
For hydrating toners, do you know anything about Paulas choice? I was considering going that route.
Thank you for your advice and help!
This is the over the counter version of the cream my derma gave for acne:
He also has me use only Cetaphil products (soap/moisturizer). It has helped tremendously. I also take Spironolactone.
Hi! Just wanted to let you know that Automod has removed your comment because it contains an Amazon referral link, which we don't allow in the sub.
Could you please edit the URL so that everything from (and including) "tag=" is removed? That way, the product page will still be visible - but no one can make a profit from the link. Here's the tag free link for an easy copy & paste: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07L1PHSY9/
If you've done that, please reply to this message so I can approve your comment :)
By washing too much I mean it sounds like you wet your face multiple times in one session but I don't think you need to do it that many times. You could also get away with just washing at night.
Yes, I recommended the cream since you might need something stronger given how much you wash.
I looked at the alba product and imo, it's not good. It's got a bit of alcohol and essential oils and plant extracts which is a very irritating combination. The salicylic acid won't do much good if you're adding a bunch of irritants with it. If you're open to online shopping, the Paula's Choice Salicylic acid 2% is much better - very gentle product and you get a decent amount for the price per oz.
Vitamin A and some of its derivatives are excellent for acne, such as retinol (which is ok) and differin (drug name adapalene, which is better). Both are over the counter. You can find differin at Walmart, CVS, amazon, etc. If I had to pick between the two for acne, I would choose differin. It's also what is prescribed for acne treatment by doctors, albeit at higher strengths. Here's a link to it on amazon.
If you look up differin and dr dray on youtube, you'll find some very helpful videos on how to use it by a dermatologist. She also has some other great videos on how to deal with acne if you do a search on acne and her name and I highly recommend her content.
It looks like it's related to shaving. You might want to try:
Unscented generally means that the product may contain chemicals that neutralize or mask the odors of other ingredients.
Fragrance-free means that neither fragrance materials nor masking scents are not used in the product.
I'll post a link at the end on fragrance; however, the bottom be is that acne is caused by bacteria, starting deep in your skin as Cutibacterium acnes, then by the time it develops into a visible pimple, it's usually infected with Staph aureus.
Don't get me wrong, genetics, hormones, diet and cleanliness all play a role, too.
Like I said, these photos look like aggravation due to shaving. I'm only medical lab tech, with some years of reading research studies on various skin issues.
But... The ideas I've given can be implemented by you today with little investment.
ALSO, DON'T OVER SCRUB OR REPEATEDLY USE HARSH ACNE PRODUCTS, WHICH HAVE THEIR PLACE, BUT IT DOES NOT INCLUDE GEL EVERY HOUR.
THE BEST TREATMENT OVER THE COUNTER IS DIFFERIN GEL, which recently became avail without prescription. Read comments on Amazon...

Would love to add in an exfoliant. But I'm scared it might be too stripping. I was going to use the Some By Me AHA BHA PHA 30 Days Miracle Toner for a gentle everyday exfoliant but then I decided to use adapalene instead. Knowing AHA and BHA are not good to be mixed with Adapalene, I took it out of the routine. I have Acne-Prone Combination Oily Skin. In winter it is actually Combination Dry because I live in Canada and it's quite freezing here. I switch out with a thicker and richer moisturizer like the Summer Fridays Jet Lag Mask, it is insanely moisturizing and absolutely heals my dry flakey skin during those days out in the snow storms. If you have oily skin, do not touch this with a 10-foot pole. Super open to some suggestions. I've been wondering about adding a Clay mask because theres already way too many essence/serums to do a sheet mask. Innisfree Pore Clearing Clay Mask 2X Super Volcanic Clusters Face Treatment and Milky Piggy, Carbonated Bubble Clay Beauty Mask seem to have amazing reviews. I don't know, I feel like there might be too much and not enough pore cleansing agents at the same time.
Would love an input! Thanks for reading.
Routine Help!
I think I have finally figured out my skin type: dehydrated, normal-to-oily combo, with very stubborn (and very obvious - people have tried to brush the "dead skin" off my face many times) sebaceous filaments that frequently turn into closed comedones, occasional cystic acne, and lots of dark marks from old scars.
I have autoimmune conditions which contribute to my dehydration, breakouts, and constant congestion, as well as new hormonal birth control that I believe has exacerbated the congestion since I started it 6 months ago, so all my efforts to figure out which products don't work anymore or even what my skin type is have been annoyingly complicated.
PM * Cerave hyaluronic acid hydrating cleanser for dry skin, used with a general lymph massage * Differin. I was alternating spot treatment vs allover every other day, a system which worked for years up until the new birth control, when I started having issues that look like photos of retinoid irritation, so I have dialed it back to a spot treatment once every couple of days - which unfortunately makes the SFs a lot more obvious. * L'Oreal Age Perfect eye cream (currently using a sample of Tatcha Melting Eye Cream for the past week-ish, but haven't noticed much of a difference) * Tatcha Water Cream I got from a friend. It's nice and the scent doesn't bother me for once, which is lovely, but it doesn't seem to be helping or hurting either way. It replaced the Cerave Night Cream that seemed to be making my breakouts worse * YesTo charcoal sheet masks, less than once a week. This seems to be the most effective product I have for calming inflammation and preventing the little closed comedones that turn into blackheads.
AM * Rinse/massage with water * Cetaphil Oil Absorbing moisturizer with SPF 30. I spend all day inside my office and I work most weekends, so I don't usually reapply at all.
I think I need to adjust my product choices, but I don't know which ones, and I'm broke so I haven't been able to just swap my entire routine.
I have read a lot and was wondering if the addition of an oil-based cleanser, followed by another water-based cleanser, might help with the sebaceous filaments, but I have only straight oils I already had that I washed off after, like jojoba, sesame, and coconut, and while they definitely help immediately, I inevitably break out 1-2 days after.
I'm 35, and all of this is more frustrating because I had pretty good skin as a 20-something and even as a teen, but the last 3 or 4 years have been pretty unkind to my face and I don't know why.
Im not sure how to edit my post so im posting the links to everything here.

Here is more back story:
About middle of last year I noticed a pencil eraser-sized wart on my heel. ARRGH! Started sanding it down and treating with SA. Kept trying pads and acids and would reliably get to the very familiar plateau of that treatment where the wart itself seems just fine and everything around it is burned and fucked up.
Then I made what turned out to be quite the mistake. I tried Cryo myself by using
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0047Y9DKS/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
on May 31 2021 — as well as a small plastic tube to guide and focus it. WOW, this froze it! It was.....gone? NOPE, then it blistered, I froze it again, and then.... it came back larger (the exact size of the freeze!) which was like 4x the surface area. Fucking hell! Freakout time.
This cryo works great for other small skin blems... not great for warts! Or at least mine.
So I started reading like crazy. Found the Adapalene references as well as vitamin A topical as an old grandma's remedy. Hmmm. Adapalene is actually Vitamin A derivative and synthetic high-powered. Cod liver oil was the old world tech, and that also seems to be somewhat successful.
Also found the Diindolymethane references! Seemed well-supported and chatted also with reddit user above about it.
The rest of the story is shown in images.
Oh, I did not use duct tape. I used Gaff tape (theater tape) because it had it and the adhesive is less messy than duct, and it's just better stuff to have always on the skin from what I can tell.
Thank you r/Warts and thanks to the interwebz.
I will try to respond to questions to help others!
Not OP and I may be lagging with the latest/greatest, but cerave pm for moisturizing and differin adapalene for a retinoid were well regarded and reasonably priced when I had looked into it in the past.

Hi! I buy this one. I apply it all over my face.
Links from my previous comment :)
Differin/Adapalene - Finally changed my skin after years of skincare without permanent results in conjunction with the PTR product below or the Differin brand acne hydroquinone dark spot treatment.
————-
Recommended products - gauze pads and salicylic acid products not recommended to use while on Differin
Peter Thomas Roth dark spot treatment (pricy but works) - this with lemon gauze pads gets rid of dark spots noticeably over night / Neogen lemon gauze pads
Dudu Oson black soap (I’m sure there are other “original” black soaps as well, but there are some that are apparently labeled black soap but not the ~same formula~ or neutrogena pink acne wash or a brightening cleanser like clean and clear orange face wash
Toner: glow tonic and witch hazel/rose toner
——
At home high frequency device (the light zapper thing they use during facials)
At home microneedling device (watch YouTube before using)- changes skin texture noticeably) mym device
——
Other recommended treatments for a pick me up!
Sunday Riley brightening oil- haven’t tried it but it looks like it could be great
Best overnight mask IMO for plump and soft skin in AM
Day mask to brighten and exfoliate
Fav ultra moisturizing sheet mask
———-
All the extra products are great but if Differin does end up to be a good fit I recommend that for real results. The products helped my skin but none seemed to drastically change it like Differin.♥️

When dealing with acne there are a few ingredients to pick from. There is salicylic acid, benzoyl peroxide, and adapalene (Differin Gel). You may only need one of these ingredients or all three. It depends on how tenacious your acne is. The key to success is to be gentle. That means no hot water, no fragrance, no scrubbing, no alcohol, and no harsh products. I’ll link a few products below.
