I take it. Magnesium is used in over 400 different bodily functions and heart rhythm is one of them. The problem is that Magnesium also acts as a laxative and too much of it confines you forever in the bathroom.
I recommend Magnesium Glycinate. Take it with a meal and on the weekends. Glycinate is the one that is most absorbable. Pass on Magnesium Oxide. It's just a laxative.
I take 100mg of magnesium this one with the 3mg of melatonin every night.
I stopped taking BC in May of this year, but I found Doctor’s Best chelated magnesium Amazon link to be a godsend for migraines, headaches, and muscle cramps. Learned about it on an ADHD subreddit, but turns out chelated mag had more benefits than just smoothing out my Adderall experience.
Got a brand you recommend? I use this kind, it does say glycinate but it's also cheap so not sure. For the record, I take magnesium everyday because I feel it's helped my insomnia. I'm not planning on taking a shitload of Molly anytime soon.
Hello! Wall of text coming, apologies.
First, you don't deserve any of that bullshit and certainly don't deserve to be utterly invalidated by your parents. It isn't normal for people to be isolated for so long, your depression and lack of focus is not only a reasonable response, but a NORMAL response. It can get better. Understand that depression and mental health is a series of health and mental feedback loops. Your body has a lot to do with your mind, and vice versa.
I was homeschooled from around first grade/the start of schooling so we're almost in the same boat. Seems even for abused homeschoolers, being pulled out of society that young is pretty rare. I struggled with so fucking much because I was just always tired. Just so, so, so tired. I was exhausted even if all I did and all I could do really was wake up, get on my pc, go to bed, repeat every day for 12 or so years. But I got past that. I'll warn you, all my advice takes months to take real affect but lord almighty did it help me.
What is your diet like? 40% of americans have a magnesium deficiency, which can cause really bad brain fog(a feeling of being unable to follow a train of thought for long before it just...poo. You just get like..."wha?") in some depending on the severity. In cases of depression and isolation it isn't unusual for diets to turn to shit or for a person to stop eating (as it was with me). So, if possible, I'd suggest looking into supplementing magnesium. I'm not exaggerating when I say magnesium + a multivitamin changed my life. As for what kind of magnesium, any will work but mag oxide causes stomach issues in some. I take magnesium glycinate because glycinate is anti-anxiety ontop of the mag's anti-anxiety and anti-depression effects. Magnesium threonate is better for brain function, but patented and expensive.
Do you work out at all? Male or female, ADHD or depression, exercise is one of the most potent relievers of symptoms even compared to medication. You don't need to sprint or go full gym-rat, just get your heart rate up for 10 minutes doing whatever the fuck you want. As with the magnesium/nutrition advice, this will take months. (Studies show 10 weeks) 3 days a week is great! 5 is better!
Daily meditation is helping me with focus a lot. Just 10 minutes a day is enough at first, and it doesn't need to be a good 10 minutes. Just try and you'll get better over time as your focus improves. If you're unfamiliar with meditation in practical terms it's more or less trying to keep your focus on a stimulus -- most commonly breath. Your mind will wander almost immediately and you'll get lost in thought for a few minutes, maybe longer. That's fine. Just whenever you notice, bring your focus back to your breath. You can mediate with other things besides your breath, or modify your breathing to make the physical sensation of breathing more intense which allows easier focusing.(An example is Nadi Shodaha) Christian monks used to meditate by focusing all of their effort on imagining the last supper in every detail they could, as an example.
And last bit of advice: It's about incremental improvements. I can't speak for you and your situation, but for me taking vitamins and stuff made me maybe 10% betterish? That means you have an extra "ok" day per week or a bit more willpower per day. Use that to start the next improvement, which in my case was exercising. That made me feel maybe 5% better, which allowed me to use those extra good days to meditate and try to build that habit. Another 5%.
It's 100% ok to fuck up, because these things take months. Don't think in terms of success or failure, think in terms of creating habits. All change in yourself will happen over long periods of time. Failing to work out doesn't matter as long as you keep striding towards building the habit. Failing to meditate daily doesn't matter as long as you keep striding towards making it a habit. Do NOT rely on willpower. Make everything as eaaaaasy as fuckin' possible. Start small, and once you can consistently do it build up from there. Habits, habits, habits.
Oh, and I'd recommend quitting video games and youtube as much as possible, but uh I get how that is when you're homeschooled. Kinda hard considering that's all you got.
You absolutely need at least an hour of relaxing down time before bed. I had the same issue of focusing on school work too close to bedtime and your thoughts/stress would carry over into bed.
