I take my cats to get professionally deshedded every couple of months, usually during their seasonal sheds. If your cat is like my short haired, it doesn't stop the shedding, it just abates it a little bit. I still try to brush everyone daily for at least a couple minutes, this brush is my new favorite. I also use wool balls in my dryer which seems to help cat hair cling less to my clothes. I also just don't wear my clothes at home, PJs only. We also have a couch covers that's washable which helps keep the couch a little cleaner.
My short haired sheds like no other! I do get her professionally deshedded, she was just going through her seasonal shed and they really lightened up her coat. I have a Furminator too, it works but it's slow. I just got this Slicker Pro and I gotta say it gets out A LOT of hair in a short amount of time. I do have to make sure to use light pressure as I found my cat can be more sensitive to the bristles than the other slicker I have. But even with brushing my cat daily, she still sheds a bunch. I'll brush her for 10 minutes, run my hand over her back and a lot of hair will still come off. I just tell myself it's way worse when I don't brush her at all
Oh I was going to ask if he was a short hair but I see that he is. My short haired cat definitely feels like she sheds more than my longer ones. Mostly because the longer guys don't have fur coming off them everytime I pet them. She does. Things that sorta help...boar bristle brush just to get rid of the top layer loose hair. Furminator is alright. This deshedding brush works the best but sometimes is too much for her sensitive skin (I think it works better than the furminator).
Once kitty has been groomed, you’ll want to brush her to keep fur from getting matted again. This is the best brush as it’s extremely easy to clean. You can also use a new toothbrush to softly brush around kitty’s face. My cat loves it!

You should give this brush a shot. It’s great in that you can get the fur out of the brush by pushing a button on the brush.

My short haired cat sheds like crazy too, just the way she is. This is my favorite slicker brush for her. I also take her to get professionally deshedded every couple months. It doesn't really stop the shedding, just slows it down a bit.
I have a short haired cat too who sheds like no other!! It's just the way she is unfortunately. Things I found helpful; brushing every day. I have a Furminator too but I found using this slicker brush works great for daily grooming. It gets out a ton of hair. I also get my cats professionally deshedded at the groomers every couple of months. I started going because of my medium haired cat but they suggested they do my short hair as well. They got so much hair out of her, it was crazy. They actually said I should be brushing her and then I had to admit I brush her almost every day, that's when I upgraded to the slicker above because clearly my old one wasn't working well enough. But even with that, she still sheds. It's never-ending, the brushing just helps some. I could brush her for an hour and still have hair coming out.
I personally don't feel it does the best job on my short haired cat. I get just as much, if not more hair out using a deshedding brush
For my short hair, she gets brushed every couple of days. I use a plain slicker brush but this brush gets out way more fur. I also have a Furminator but I think the shedding brush gets out just as much fur. I also take her to the groomers every 2 months for a deshedding brushing and nails clipped, they get out so much fur it's ridiculous. But she also sheds a ton. I don't give treats, all my cats have been brushed from an early age and like it, they just get good ear and chin scratches with it.
But she still sheds more than my other 2 boys combined. We use a Lilly brush for the couch and also for cleaning the cat trees.
I get my cat professionally deshedded every couple months. They get so much hair out in so little time and it makes it much easier to maintain.
I have a Furminator and don't have a problem with it breaking my cats coat. For long haired cats, I definitely found it worth the money. But I also only use it max once a week. Usually less.
I legit just got this slicker brush yesterday and was amazed at how much hair it pulled out of both my long and short haired cats. And I brushed for less than 5 minutes. I also love this comb. Really great for preventing mats and brushing sensitive areas like the haunches.
For grooming. I usually just brush my guys while they sitting/sleeping next to me on the couch. I usually scritch their ears or chin with one hand while brushing with the other. My adult cats will also walk around me and I'll just keep brushing as they're moving. Sometimes I'll sit on the ground and brush them as they roll around. I brush them from daily to just weekly. It's all very informal. Sometimes they'll let me comb them for an hour, sometimes 2 minutes.
