First off, that is a gorgeous canine my friend. Secondly, I saw a post a while back where somebody recommended this seat cover for their dogs in the rear based on fitment. I think it should cover the windowsill, but I could be wrong. If I traveled with my pup often, I’d definitely get one like it though
Thanks man, that's actually a pretty good way to look at it.
I'm not great at gift giving. I always err on the side of utility.. may not be the most sentimental gift, but if it's put to use, it's all good.
I use the Urpower dog car hammock from Amazon. It's $32, keeps my rear seat clean, and our big dog (70lbs young Pyrenees mix) absolutely loves it. She really chills in it when we drive and it keeps her contained quite well. Here's the link: https://www.amazon.com/URPOWER-Hammock-Scratch-Nonslip-Durable/dp/B0727Y5ZD7/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1533589389&sr=8-4&keywords=dog+car+hammock
We use this one in both of our cars.
Decent price and quality. I'm sure there's better out there but it works fine.
If you get a backseat cover for dog, they often come with anchor points for a small leash and wall him up to make it harder to go to the front of the car.
Something like this.
I have this cool dog hammock thing, and it came with leashes that click into the seatbelt receivers. My two dogs love it, I didn’t realize before I got it, but one of them is a little rescue mutt with some trauma and he was terrified of falling off the back seat onto the floorboard. He’s way more comfortable now since the hammock prevents that. Plus it’s waterproof so I can just toss my umbrella or rain jacket back there without concern. I think this is the one I ordered https://www.amazon.com/URPOWER-100-Waterproof-Hammock-Scratch-Nonslip/dp/B0727Y5ZD7/ref=mp_s_a_1_3?keywords=Dog+hammock+car&qid=1663339046&sr=8-3
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0727Y5ZD7/ref=cm_sw_r_sms_apip_nDVxBhIAfcJDd I have something identical to this. Just throw towels underneath it and enclose it so she doesnt slobber jump on the door cards. She’s way safer in the back seat than loose in the front.
We have a pair of 30lb pups that we regularly take in our cars. I got one of these hammocks for the backseat of my Y and it's worked quite well. I have a black interior but that shouldn't make a difference.
You don't need to use the side flaps to protect the doors if you don't want, which would make it easier to open the windows for the pup.

I got this a while ago it keeps the car real clean and protects the seats. My dog is 40 pound mini pitbull. It’s nice cause she can lay down and sleep without flying off the seat when I break the car. There is some divide from the front seat I find it works well. Anyways I love this thing.
I’ve got a 75 pound Ridgeback. We bought a Dog Hammock for the back seat and he loves to ride in it.
He doesn’t like to jump in the truck, but once’s he’s in he’s happy for long car rides too. The hammock has storage for leash and toy, and has been durable for past 3 years. It also has protected seats well, when we put humans back there and take the cover out, the seats look practically brand new.
I got this one from Amazon for like 30 bucks! I like it. Definitely does it's job just fine and fits my rav nicely. Folds up pretty small as well.

One of the first things I bought when I got mine was a burrito for the back seat. Actually I'm not sure why we call it a burrito but my wife has one for her car, and I have one for mine. Protects the seat, and the door panels (a bit). Haven't tested it but its supposed to be waterproof too.

I like it a lot. Mainly, it’s cheep, but the zippered sides are nice too. Mostly contains the slobber. It has some nice pockets too.
Yep I had a golden who was a basket case of anxiety and car rides were like that with her. I don't know how well your life can accommodate it, but I recommend a (dog car seat with leash hooks)[https://www.amazon.com/URPOWER-100-Waterproof-Hammock-Scratch-Nonslip/dp/B0727Y5ZD7/ref=sxin_13_ac_m_pm?ac_md=2-1-QmV0d2VlbiAkMjUgYW5kICQ1MA%3D%3D-ac_d_pm&cv_ct_cx=dog+car+seat&dchild=1&keywords=dog+car+seat&pd_rd_i=B0727Y5ZD7&...] which helped our Cassie with her nervous pacing back and forth if we cracked the window enough to get her snoot through to get a good sniff. Unfortunately we couldn't open the window wider for her because she was an escape risk - poor girl would OBSESS about barriers and doors to the point where she would panic through them without thinking what was on the other side.
My guy is a little over 2 and still not the best traveler. He used to vomit regularly if he was in the car for more than 10 minutes, and he was even worse if we were stuck in traffic as opposed to moving on a highway. We now give him Cerenia about an hour before we go on any sort of extended car ride and it seems to work well. Couple that with not feeding him for the hours leading up to the ride, along with putting him in one of these protective hammocks along with his bed and a toy. It's not ideal but it's been very successful so far.
You should've bought one of these.
I’d recommend something like this, especially if you have the ActiveX seats to prevent punctures. https://www.amazon.com/URPOWER-100-Waterproof-Hammock-Scratch-Nonslip/dp/B0727Y5ZD7
I got this one and works pretty well!
My TWC used to a lot, i would take him everywhere. Recently he has gotten a lot better about it. I have also tried to drive more sanely when he is in the car. Take alternate routes that dont require me to be on bumpy or windy roads. Usually if he did throw up it was very evident he was just swallowing the drool. I also got a back seat water proof protector and even then threw an old comforter in there to make any spill an easy clean up.

this is the current ad, I got mine more than 4y ago and its held up pretty well (one of the bottom seat secure points ripped out when I was trying to take it out so people could sit) I have a buddy that also got things from weathertech that go into your window tracks to protect the doors more than the sides on this one do.

Its a bit excessive, but my kid has spilled milk and all sorts of things. Seat is good as new!

We have this one and it’s great. URPOWER Dog Seat Cover Car Seat... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0727Y5ZD7?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
There are ones that basically look like a basket too. Something like the link, so you can protect the doors too if you want!
Thank you! It's technically a doggy hammock. Great for rides in the car. It keeps him safe and secure, even when I have all the doors and everything off. I can buckle him in, too. I got it for $33 on Amazon, and I love it! https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0727Y5ZD7/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Got the seat cover off amazon and we absolutely love it. The harness does not come with. https://www.amazon.com/URPOWER-100-Waterproof-Hammock-Scratch-Nonslip/dp/B0727Y5ZD7 and https://store.petsafe.net/easy-walk-harness#1077=1019
I’m not sure how big your dog is, but we got a back seat cover for our pup (link) and we love it!
We got a safety clip (doggie seat belt) that plugs into the back seat belt and connects to the harness they shouldn’t be in the front seat , then we also use a back seat car hammock so they can’t slid off We just recently got a booster seat so he can see out the window and he loves it

I found a 2 in topper twin mattress from Costco worked really well for cheap $60-70 (it was $60 in store). Costco Link

As for the Pet Barrier: I got a cargo container similar to this (exact model I got is no longer available) that provides some door protection.
You'll be fine :) We went 12 hours to pick up our 8 week old dalmatian and deliberately went on a 3 day roadtrip after that to desensitize him to road sounds/truck sounds/etc. We got very used to going to rest areas every couple of hours - which was great for not only him, but us! I would recommend having a specific routine. So for us, it'd be, I'd put the leash on the puppy, my partner would carry him out to the grassy area. I'd sit on the sidewalk waiting for the puppy to do his business, my partner would go off to do his own business. When he came back, we'd walk the puppy back to the truck, put him in, give him water, and keep going. But the routine was predictable every single time. So by the end of the 3 days, the puppy was practically walking us back to the truck.
We ended up getting a hammock for him to travel in instead of a pet carrier: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0727Y5ZD7/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Put some of his towels and favorite toys in there. And a puppy pad if you want some just in case.
Hotel wise, this can be difficult to find, but most Motel 8s (a much better stay than expected - almost rivaled Best Western and Holiday Inn Express) are pet-friendly with a 15 dollar fee. For the hotel, I'd then use the pet carrier as his crate.
Give a lot of treats so he thinks the car's a great place, you'll do great!
Hard requirement here, no dogs allowed without the hammock in there. It's not perfect, but I have to clean way less send the don't feel like they're about to fall in the footwell.
Look into a hammock with walls. I bought this one, only used it once so far.
https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B0727Y5ZD7/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
HAHAH Yeah. I don't want her hair EVERYWHERE. SO I double layered it. I put an old sheet down first and then put one of these on top of it.
We have this for our back seat. It works SO well for dog hair, drool, etc. That way, it doesn't matter what the car interior is.
This is the hammock it’s basically a seat cover for the back seat so the seatbelt slots are for pets/passengers!
I've tried a few and this one wins out: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0727Y5ZD7/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?smid=A2ZDDMQJ755ULA&psc=1
Has sides to it, which many lack, that protects more of the car than just the standard "sheet" style ones you see more often.
