I have had a surprising amount of luck with a pretty cheap set of lights from Amazon. I didn't think they'd do much since they seemed flimsy and cheap. However they are super thin and come with multiple ways to attach to above surfaces. I have a set of the blue/purple for seedlings and red/white for more mature plants. They are surprisingly strong so keep an eye on how much your plants need to start.

i have unfortunate news that the light is in fact complete garbage do not buy! One of the panels didn't work, they didnt have proper connect cables just these little tongs that didnt click into place, they changed the picture son the order after I got it as originally it was supposed to have a timer and dimmer but upon receiving it and it not I looked and the pictures changed to it not have this feature. the one light that did turn on was MEGA bright though, but so much so it actually hurt to look at. Here a link so you know what to avoid https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B07TRKXX9D/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 I will update you on if I find a decent one :( sorry though lucky for me amazon is giving me a refund I just have to return it so that's good. But seriously so disappointed I should have paid more attention to reviews the only negative one i saw was one about it being a fire hazard but that pops up on a lot of lights and stuff I look at :( best of luck to you though in finding a good one, im going to make a post requesting a good decent priced light name
I used these for seed starting this year and they worked nicely. I attached to the underside of a shelf using command strips, they're very lightweight and don't get hot.

I have these lights and they are so low profile and cheap but work SO WELL under shelves!! However my distance is 12 inches, not 18, but mine are thriving under that. Good luck! I live in an apartment with almost no natural light and have tried all sorts of grow light set ups, so it can be done!!
So this is what I use on amazon! Works great for all of my babies. I bought five to outfit my tent and shelves. But if it’s jus one pot one light should do!
Hope this helps!

the gf's but she got it here on amazon
I have sampled just about every kind of lighting (I have a plant channel, companies send them to me left and right if I let them) and you really don’t need to spend a lot of money.
I’ve found certain plants prefer certain lights, here’s a few ideas: this one my begonias, Hoyas, carnivorous plants, and especially my orchids seem to love, they’re thin and I stuck them to the underside of my shelves.
Those cheap little clip on lights, in the full spectrum color temp, will only last a year or two if you’re lucky (I have been so far) but they’re actually pretty effective for little terrariums or plants in a windowless corner- especially pothos and philodendron I’ve noticed.
this bulb from GE works really well, is affordable, and pleasant enough to be around. It’s currently helping my aroid imports to flourish in the winter, I have two in clamp on shop lights a little less than a foot above them. (I screwed flower hanger things into the wall to mount the lights. Not as ugly as it sounds lol)
Knot Dude and Betsy Begonia are both friends of mine, very good people (not that you know me lol but in the opinion of this stranger…), with light videos and recs for other options that are nice for both plant and human. Good luck!
