I've used a cable like this in order to use a keyboard while charging at the same time and it worked but I'm not sure if it was truly simultaneous or it switched between power and data two every couple miliseconds, either way it was unnoticeable from human perspective
I use my tablet often as a media device on my TV and it works well. I bought one of these otg cables so I can use an Xbox 360 adapter and charge at the same time. Console mode is really useful because it turns off the tablet screen and just displays on the TV. I use Netflix, Youtube, Google Music and they all work well, along with games.
Unfortunately, Amazon Prime video is not directly supported on Android devices and will only display in SD, not HD :/
The one I have is the one first mentioned/linked to in that old AFTV News article from spring - it was listed, according to my Amazon order history, as DSYG Micro USB Host cable, though when I click on it, it shows up as “1397895 Micro USB Host OTG cable ...” by seller CWD (up from $3 to $5.80, not Prime shipping eligible) - with a “View newer model” message under the pic, which links to a $6.50 cable, once again labeled as DSYG.
I think they’re the same, and this was probably just relabeled to raise the price once again. Here’s the link to the one I got: 1397895 Micro USB Host OTG Cable with Micro USB Power for Samsung S7 S7 Edge, S6 S6+ S6 Edge, S5, S4 & Nexus 10 9 7 4 Player + ALL OTHERS https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00CXAC1ZW/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_JfbbEb4BC1XVD
And the first time I plugged mine in, it didn’t show up immediately in all apps until I opened up ES Explorer and it scanned for external/SD drives, so you might want to try that (after first restarting your FTV).
I have mine on a Fire Stick 4K (though I almost never use the cable, because torrents stall for the first 5 minutes when downloading to my USB flash drive, but not when downloading to the Fire device directly... could be a local issue that only I have, though, and I guess it’s useful if you need a place to save game progress or if you download things onto the Fire and want to then transfer them over to the USB drive).
Also, the OTG cables all seem to be pretty cheap. The first brand I bought didn’t work. This brand did. But I purchased over a year ago. Maybe they changed. If you can’t get it to work, I’d probably buy another OTG cable from the same brand and then maybe 1 or 2 others from another brand. Just return the ones that don’t work or you don’t need.
For what it’s worth, I found the single packs to be more reliable than the 2 packs.
DSYJ Micro USB Host OTG Cable with Micro USB Power for Nexus 4 Nexus 7 Galaxy S Iii & Galaxy Nexus https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00CXAC1ZW/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_1Q5iFbSD9J6Q3
On The Go.
Basically, with an OTG cable that also does power, you can plug the USB drive into the rear port instead of the 2nd controller port. This has three benefits. First you can hide the flash drive in the rear of the PSC. Second you can still have a second player without needing a powered USB hub. Third the rear port doesn't limit power to the USB drive so just about any drive (including external drives and SSD's in an enclosure) will just work. You definitely want to do this very simple mod and buy an OTG cable that also does power.
Here's the one I use daily: https://www.amazon.com/DSYJ-Micro-Samsung-Player-OTHERS/dp/B00CXAC1ZW
You need to buy an OTG cable that has both male and female micro USB ports like this: https://www.amazon.com/Micro-Cable-Samsung-Player-OTHERS/dp/B00CXAC1ZW/
I have this one and it works great playing files off my USB stick connected to a USB hub. Keep in mind this only works for the 2nd gen Fire TV Stick.
Fire TV already has an ethernet port. I was referring OTG cable that has both male and female micro USB ports like this: https://www.amazon.com/Micro-Cable-Samsung-Player-OTHERS/dp/B00CXAC1ZW/ combined with a USB 2.0 to ethernet adapter to allow Fire Stick to have ethernet. Only works with 2nd gen Fire Sticks though.
Get a usb otg cable https://www.amazon.com/Micro-Cable-Samsung-Player-OTHERS/dp/B00CXAC1ZW and a usb mouse and you can use a mouse on the phone. I know because my s7e came with an otg cable and your device should still support a mouse pointer. You can then login with a mouse and transfer the files to a new phone or pc.
I have this one that kind of works. It's an OTG cable that has both a USB and micro USB for charging. If you get one, make sure to plug everything into the cable before the tablet, otherwise it won't recognize charging. I don't think they are made for charging tablets though; it is a very low input rate (around 100mA) so it just barely keeps up with charging.
How? I tried this with my OTG cable and it didn't work, even for just a flash drive. As far as I know my next step is to buy a powered OTG thing like this. But this clearly isn't that. Is it a specific model of cable? Is it a certain version of the v10? Give me the details please.
Not necessarily a MicroSD adapter, but this is a OTG cable with power passthrough:
http://www.amazon.com/Micro-Cable-Player-Samsung-Galaxy/dp/B00CXAC1ZW
EDIT: Never mind, looks like it can't power while in host mode. The USB power is for powering the USB device itself. Seems that powering while in host mode is an issue at the driver level of the OS? The USB only has 4 pins for power and data, so while in host mode, power flows to the USB device from the phone. It can't go both ways. Either in to charge the battery, or out to power the device. This cable saves your phone battery, essentially.
You could try a powered OTG cable like this.
I'm not saying it will for sure work, but you can plug a power microUSB into it, and it doesn't pass through to the device, but powers the OTG device. So, theoretically, it should provice external power to your OTG external HD.
You can get a splitter cable that provides a USB A-female with a USB micro-B female. I used one with my old phones that didn't have a powered USB port to drive a thumb drive. Give me a minute to find it again.
Edit: Example cable on Amazon
Hello, Firstly as it is Verizon device so it cannot be bootloader unlocked. Secondly the XDA thread you linked,as you have the correct firmware version as stated there, only factory reset your device and carefully follow the steps mentioned there. If it too tough for you, leave it, as you may risk completely bricking the device. Third, OTG+Charge cable(its called OTG Y-cable)here- http://www.amazon.com/Micro-Cable-Player-Samsung-Galaxy/dp/B00CXAC1ZW/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1437928325&sr=8-1&keywords=otg+y+cable (sorry am not American so cant provide you the cheapest one,but you should get the idea.) Fourth thing, I don't know much about PS3 controller linking but I think you require root.. Lastly, backup all your media to a PC. Use any app available from play store to back up your logs, calendars, contacts, smses to sdcard and then subsequently copy it to PC. (Generally contacts and calendars are synced with your Google account, but backup just in case)
I was under the impression that an OTG Y-cable (like this ) would let one plug USB devices into the fire stick. I can't seem to find any information about whether or not this would actually work, other than a few posts saying that there IS power AND data wired to the usb port on the fire stick.
no, not exactly. That is a USB 2.0 female to USB micro male adapter. USB OTG is not exactly the same thing. The primary difference being OTG cables are usually Y cables that allow you to supply 5V dc from an external power supply (usually from a USB cable plugged in to a phone charger). Many, if not MOST android devices lack the ability to power external peripherals needed for USB OTG without an external power source.
You need something like this
If you have problems connecting to an unpowered hard drive, (you may hear clicking noises or other oddities, too) you might need more power, as another commenter mentioned. I use one of these http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00CXAC1ZW/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 with any USB charger plugged into the female micro port, and it works fine.
I believe you can buy an adapter that will allow you to power the USB port on your phone and also use it in OTG mode with a USB SD card reader.
Edit: http://www.amazon.com/Micro-Cable-Power-Galaxy-Samsung/dp/B00CXAC1ZW
I found this with a quick search. ~~Someone in the comments says it powers your USB device and charges your phone.~~
Edit2: Nevermind, it doesn't charge your phone. There might be one out there that does though.
I used the following guide for my setup.
The ethernet adapter I got was the Linksys USB3GIG. It is nice that the USB3GIG supports 1000Gb and has USB3.0 to take full advantage of the bandwidth in theory.
My setup cost me $29, but it can be done for $20.

Edit: I changed the amazon links since I didn't realize amazon shorten links are referral links.
there's a set of cables which if you prefer (e.g. already have a micro-hdmi type d) you can get this on amazon for $1.63 https://www.amazon.com/Micro-Cable-Power-Samsung-Player/dp/B00CXAC1ZW/
100% same experience as you.
A few notes for those interested in this device.
1 - update it ... don't even bother trying to set it up until you've allowed it to update.
2 - update the remote. There is a firmware update for the remote ... let it update.
3 - Get yourself one of these - https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00CXAC1ZW/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s01?ie=UTF8&th=1
4 - Get yourself one of these (or equivalent) - https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B06XG9XP49/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s01?ie=UTF8&th=1
5 - Do this - https://troypoint.com/android-tv-adoptable-storage/
I've had my Onn device hooked up for several months and find that it does occasionally lock up. A task killer of your choice will assist with this. I've used button mapper to map a Task Killer to my bookmark button (short press) and Reboot menu for long press. This helps me quickly restart the thing without having to unplug and reboot. I never have to touch it.
Good Luck!!
To add usb drive.. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00CXAC1ZW/?tag=aftvn-20 .. Others are out there also..
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00CXAC1ZW
That is the listing of the cable I have, but I bought it in 2017 so cant guarantee it is the same cable.
Hopefully it is the same cable, but I bought some usb led light strips from Amazon less than a week apart and got two totally different led light strips. With nearly 5 years between purchase whats the odds its the same exact same cable? Id go 50/50 at best, but it does claim to deliver power.
This is the one I use, just grab a similar one that has prime shipping etc. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00CXAC1ZW?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
DSYJ Micro USB Host OTG Cable... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00CXAC1ZW?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
This is the one I use but any that look like that should be fine (ie find one with prime shipping etc)
A powered otg cable will sort the power issue, I use one on my 7 in the car
It could be the OTG cable/adapter. Reason it COULD be is because I bought two different ones from Amazon and....
This one reads all of my usb devices perfectly fine:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00CXAC1ZW/
This one was not able to read all of the same devices:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07GDBPBTR/
The one that made me KNOW it was the cable causing the problem... there's a tiny blue LED on the end of one of my microSD adapters that wouldn't come on when using the 2nd adapter linked above. The others don't have a light, but when swapping cables back and forth makes the non-working devices work EVERY time... it's a bad cable. No way of knowing 100% for sure if that's what's going on on your end, but it's certainly possible.
Here are two that I found. Not sure if either work, but I should know in a couple days. I had to order a female micro-USB to male USB-C cable, as well.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00CXAC1ZW/
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0826QR2RJ/
I did see some OTG Y cables that had male USB-A and USB-C ends, but the descriptions said the USB-A side provided "extra" power, so I was worried the dongle would still draw power from the USB-C side.
If those don't work (meaning, they drain power from both the tablet AND the "power" side of the cable), the best solution will probably be to wire a relay in series with the USB cable that has an open circuit that closes when a 5V trigger is applied. That way you could wire the relay to trigger via a USB charger that powers on with the car.
Soooo close to a "set and forget" solution. Hopefully, one of these things work.
BleemSync is...well, it has a couple parts. One part: Some drivers and extra programs that it installs to the internal memory of the PSC. Second part: The replacement UI that it boots, that allows you to access the extra games you loaded on your USB drive. Its main purpose is to play Playstation games with a modified version of the stock emulator (the one included in the PSC).
RetroArch is its own separate UI, set up for running games from dozens of different game systems. It's basically a frontend for a bunch of different emulators. Bleemsync and Autobleem both include Retroarch (although Bleemsync only includes the core that runs playstation games by default, I think). Retroarch has...we'll call it a "sibling" of the stock emulator available, which enables some extras like analog support.
> Also, my USB drive doesn't have a port on the back of it like I've seen some people use.
I'm not sure what you mean. What you might have seen is an OTG cable, which allows you to connect your USB drive through the back of the system. You might want to read the stickied post if you don't know about the amperage limitations on the front USB ports, and if you haven't heard of "OTG".
> Do I need one with a port in the back to use the controller as player 1?
Before OTG was available, a setup like this was common, and that's still what you have to do to install Bleemsync (which installs the OTG driver, when you install the custom kernel). Read the stickied post, and you'll see why that's problematic. I used mine like that for about a month and ended up corrupting my USB stick a couple times.
Most android devices running Lollipop+ will support USB microphones - both mono and stereo.
In fact it is the only way to connect external stereo mics - via USB. This can be in the form of USB mics, or if you only have wired stereo mics, then you need the appropriate USB dongle that can accept the line-in jack from the stereo microphones (TRS 3.5mm).
Regarding the Shure MV5, here is a Shure webpage:
>Question: >How do I connect a Motiv device to an Android phone? > >Answer: >An Android phone requires an OTG ("On The Go") adapter to connect with the USB cable supplied with the MV5, MV51, or MVi.
A more relevant question is if the USB microphone requires minimal power - which the android phone is able to provide - or if the microphone uses much more (in which case you may need a USB hub - so the microphone is adequately powered). However, above website seems to suggests it does work with android.
Here is another Shure webpage:
>MOTIV Digital Microphones and Recording Solutions are compatible with Android devices that support USB Audio Class 2.0 and USB On-The-Go (OTG) connectivity. Not all Android devices are compatible. Android is a trademark of Google Inc. USB On-The-Go (OTG) Cable not included.
Now on the question of whether "USB Audio Class 2.0" will be supported on the android device:
>USB Audio Class 2.0 mode was drawing way too much power and those PMICs (power management integrated circuits) got deep fried, plenty of victims fried their Android devices before > >USB hub could be added between XS and your phone, that's what they've been doing after their incidents.
The above link has mention of USB hubs that can be used for better safety with these larger USB mics - for example this one:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00CXAC1ZW
DSYJ Micro USB Host OTG Cable with Micro USB Power for Samsung S7 S7 Edge, S6 S6+ S6 Edge, S5, S4 & Nexus 10 9 7 4 Player + ALL OTHERS
Here is a Shure webpage which mentions usage on Android:
It seems they have their own audio recorder app as well - although any audio recorder app should work with USB microphones.
>in the AT2020usb+, the mic would be connected to the phone via USB and the headphone jack can be used to do live monitoring (hear what the mic is recording in real time), and I like having that option.
That is a good feature - however our audio recorder app (link below) includes a real-time monitoring feature. Just plug in headphones before you click Record button.
If you are looking for binaural stereo recording - in a package that is known to work (no extra power needed) - you can check out these devices - these have been known to work with our app above, and include a separate USB dongle (USB sound card) which you can use with other stereo microphones also, and a separate headset with the two microphones - one in each ear:
https://www.amazon.com/Andrea-Communications-Surround-Recording-SB-205B/dp/B005GAW69M/Andrea
Communications 3D Surround Sound Recording Ear Buds SB-205B, Black
https://www.amazon.com/Andrea-Communications-Surround-Recording-SB-205W/dp/B005GAW6BA/Andrea
Communications 3D Surround Sound Recording Ear Buds SB-205W, White
The advantage with these devices is that they include a USB dongle as well - which could be used with other stereo microphones (with line-in type jack), or with using just two lapel microphones (then you need a Y-splitter to convert that to line-in type jack so it can be plugged into the USB dongle).
Just another link - https://www.amazon.com/Micro-Cable-Samsung-Player-OTHERS/dp/B00CXAC1ZW I ordered this one as it's pretty compact. Works a treat!
OTG cables are a bit more than a converter. Using just a converter typically wont trigger host mode for OTG to work.
https://www.amazon.com/Micro-Cable-Samsung-Player-OTHERS/dp/B00CXAC1ZW
Something like this would work though.
An OTG "Y" cable with a Flirc connected to it works with the Fire TV Stick 2 and lets you use any IR remote to control it. I fully expect the pendent Fire TV 3 to work this way as well. Remeber though, you'll need the Flirc sticking out of the front so you'll likely also need a USB extension cable.
This only works with the Fire TV Stick 1 if it is rooted because OTG is not enabled by default.
I'm afraid USB Debugging was not enabled. However, someone has mentioned to use a USB OTG Cable to hook up a mouse, but i'm not sure how i would be able to see what i was clicking on. I was able to find this Slimport Adapter which provides an HDMI port along with USB port and several others which i would think would allow me to connect to a TV/Monitor and a mouse. I'll report back and see if it was successful.
I would probably try and use a Y Splitter and something similar to this. Not entirely sure if it'll all work together but it's the only thing I can think of that's basic enough to work in a car situation. Y Splitters can be tricky because some devices simply can't handle both the data and power input/outputs at the same time to make it worth using, and some phones don't even support Y Splitters at all. You may look into compatibility with your phone specifically. There may also be a better DAC that you can find that I couldn't. Everything else on Google was something either overly complicated, or wasn't the right product at all. Sometimes with Y Splitters as well, you can get the charging port to pass through the USB A port on the pigtail. So you may be able to find something that requires power but you can use the one cable. Most DACs though will use either their own power connector that goes out to USB or it will combine them into one and power via the USB. I use a cheapo DAC that converts my SPDIF to analog and is powered via USB.
If you have an Android phone, you can get an OTG cord for literally a dollar. Combine with the 8 dollar DSLR controller app. You can use the phone as a remote/intervalometer/live view monitor or as a passthrough to another monitor for wireless tethering. If you don't feel like waiting, Radio Shack carries the OTG cables (if you can find one), though they are more expensive (still sub 10 dollars)
> So I have a headset (Razer Man O War) that can uses a wireless USB dongle to listen to music, games, etc. So I was wondering if I purchase a USB female to 3.5mm adapter would that work?
Such a thing doesn't/shouldn't exists. It's the equivalent of plugging a power cable into a hose. The dongle requires power to work and 3.5mm doesn't do that.
> If not is there any way I could use them with my phone
Depending on the phone... you'll need to buy either a Camera Adapter or a USB OTG Cable and hope that the razers use/support standard audio drivers. I think they do since it list PS4 as a supported platform.
Bring over to friend's house?
Or
If you have...
Iphone : Get a Camera Adapter
Android : Get a OTG Cable.
Let's you use the Modi on your cell.
Well I ordered the cable from amazon and didn't realize it would be coming from China on the slow boat... I should be here sometime next month...
In theory yes ... and heck, after some digging I even found a cable on amazon (PS: ... though maybe not, that description really is unclear).
PS2: yop, sadly that seems to only be to power the external device, not the phone as described in this item ... though not having an external device draw off your phone's battery can also already be a huge saving.
At least with the Y-cable I used, the external power passes thru to the phone. Also another good kernel for Marshmallow is AK.
This would be a much better analogous example http://www.amazon.com/Micro-Cable-Player-Samsung-Galaxy/dp/B00CXAC1ZW
you can connect it through a powered usb hub or have a splitter cable like this http://www.amazon.com/Micro-Cable-Player-Samsung-Galaxy/dp/B00CXAC1ZW
being powered by a power bank or another plugincharger
get this so it will also charge your phone. http://www.amazon.com/Micro-Cable-Player-Samsung-Galaxy/dp/B00CXAC1ZW/ref=sr_1_4?s=wireless&ie=UTF8&qid=1456514184&sr=1-4&keywords=otg+cable
Option 1 and a powered otg cable. http://www.amazon.com/Micro-Cable-Player-Samsung-Galaxy/dp/B00CXAC1ZW
This one should work, not sure it's the exact brand I have but it's a pretty simple cable.
http://www.amazon.com/Micro-Cable-Player-Samsung-Galaxy/dp/B00CXAC1ZW
http://www.amazon.com/Micro-Cable-Player-Samsung-Galaxy/dp/B00CXAC1ZW
I googled "y otg cable" this is the very first link... You must not have looked to hard
Guess you'll need one of these then:
Non-mobile: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00CXAC1ZW/ref=pd_aw_sims_3?pi=AC_SX230_QL60
^That's ^why ^I'm ^here, ^I ^don't ^judge ^you. ^PM ^/u/xl0 ^if ^I'm ^causing ^any ^trouble.
pretty sure OP found what he was looking for, but here's a link:
Are you using a powered OTG cable ?
Nobody should pay more than $2 for an OTG Y cable. link
People literally come here for the smallest inconvenience without searching through the available resources.
Only FAT32 will work until you flash the kernel. If it doesn't boot up, you need a powered hub or do the power mod. If it boots up and later on stops working, you need a powered hub or do the power mod. Supply your psc with a power adapter that has a minimum of 5v 2amps. Once you get the kernel flashed you can use exfat/ntfs and use an otg micro USB host cable to connect your flash drive to the back. Using otg solves all power related problems, as long as you supply your psc with 5v 2amps.
Meh. I bought one that looks like it's exactly the same as the 2-pack (this one, because it was $4.04 at the time). But I've just been using it with a flash drive.
The problem I'd expect with thinner wires is higher electrical resistance, causing voltage drops. Mine hasn't been causing me any problems, but that might just be luck of the draw. Quality control on these things is probably close to nonexistent.
