Some litrpg stuff in here, with stats and skills, but the MC doesn’t use any of that, just pure fencing skills. The book does a good job of describing them, and how he uses them against people who rely on the “Skill” of swordsmanship vs actually knowing how to use a sword.
You don't need a subscription, pretty much the opposite I asked because I know that sometimes when you have the subscription I've heard of the purchase link not showing up. I just checked what's wrong. It's up on Amazon Canada, but the link I had up was from .com so that was probably the issue.
I think that's the issue because I'm in Canada as well and visiting it from .ca I can see the link there.
Going to plug my novel that came out a bit ago, Duellist's Road. It was mildly affected by the Amazon Red Wedding, but not as much as other novels here so I can't complain too much!
I'm a fencer in real life and always wanted to commit my love of the sport to fiction, so this is a progression story where characters learn real life swordfighting techniques and get stronger from there.
It is effectively a litrpg where the protagonist refuses to actually use the litrpg system and has to struggle between his principles (his desire to not use the system and to instead become stronger comes from wanting to spite the man who betrayed him) and the harsh realities of how difficult it is to survive in a magic world without using magic.
The cast all progress in different ways, each finding their own "road" to progression - all different, none flat out better...but all reflecting what they value the most.
Can't believe I actually got around to publishing a book! And I'm already done with the first draft of book 2 now, which surprises me more. I wrote this isekai with the concept of "I really wish that the reason someone got isekai'd was really plot relevant. Like why and how they were sent was a huge part of the story." So, some words later here we are!
Book 1 on Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/Duellists-Road-Shortcuts-Fantasy-Adventure-ebook/dp/B09MJ5HNDN
Book description: Carr, a master swordsman from Earth, is forcibly transported to another world after being betrayed by his best friend. It was an act of treachery that left a deep scar on his heart, causing him to be unwilling to make use of the strange magical system that runs his new world. But even without utilizing any stats, levels, or skills, he still believes himself to be the greatest swordsman of them all – and he'll prove it again and again, stopping at nothing to face his old friend once more and settle the score.
Duelling fierce opponents while traversing a hostile fantasy world is just the tip of the iceberg. Carr's refusal to engage in the LitRPG system puts him at a disadvantage – and he knows it. He'll have to gather allies who do make use of stats, and most importantly, continue improving himself. Even without stats, he'll never stop progressing his own strength.
After all, what is swordsmanship if not an eternal quest of self-improvement? Especially on a journey to achieve the sweet satisfaction of revenge.
Duellist's Road: No Shortcuts
Sounds like Never Backdown 2 : The Backdown , cool cover page
Much like Woolie I don't how to read but good job on finishing something that you started
Okay, just got to the this comment - sorry, I only use this account to post chapters (so people can check things easily) so I usually don't respond for a few days, and I wasn't home from holidays so responding was taking longer than usual.
> Ok, so it stands for Kindle Unlimited. Next question, is it still on there, because it's not coming up in any of my searches. In fact, according to Amazon, the closest thing they have to this in their Kindle Store is the Eco Dot.
The book ended up being listed on Amazon as "Duellist's Road" (with two letter "ls"). This is because Amazon decided that the word "Fencer" would get it listed under books about...wooden fences.
I alluded to this title change on this post.
> Is there any place where Book 1 CAN be found? It was removed from HFY due to a rule violation. It was removed from Royal Road. It was removed from SpaceBattles.com. It was removed from Kindle Unlimited for some kind of rule violation. I finally decided to take a look, and it seems like the writer has managed to get everyone to tell him to fuck right off.
The book was not removed from Kindle Unlimited to the best of my knowledge. https://www.amazon.com/Duellists-Road-Shortcuts-Fantasy-Adventure-ebook/dp/B09MJ5HNDN/ I can access it from here and I have checked on a few different devices signed out of my account to make sure it's still available. Amazon also lists it as available on my end and with no warnings or anything of the sort.
Would you mind telling me what you mean about the book being removed from KU due to a rules violation? That is really important to me, but I can't find anything on my end about it - it seems available on every end I can and people I have asked to double-check have listed it as available on their end as well.
I was not telling anyone to fuck off. After finding out I would have to remove book 1 from public platforms (royal road, spacebattles and HFY) I made the ebook free to download for 2 weeks before they had to come down.
I honestly can't think of a better example for your request than Duellist's Road.
Cover art was made by the very, very skilled artist Pat Ventura. The moment I saw the finished product I felt like I had to make the novel as good as possible.
This is my very first novel and I’m self-publishing, so I hope you can forgive me for the small self-promotion. The book is free if you have Kindle Unlimited, so there’s that at least!
If you’re interested, you can check out the book here: https://www.amazon.com/Duellists-Road-Shortcuts-Fantasy-Adventure-ebook/dp/B09MJ5HNDN
A story about determination, sticking to your principles, and a bit of pure spite.
The book is very heavily focused on fencing and swordsmanship in general. I’ve been a fencer in real life(sports epee and HEMA both) for a long time and I always wanted to write a novel that reflected those details while still playing in a fantasy setting. So, after some heavy encouragement, I did! If you enjoy fantasy stories and detailed, realistic sword-fighting then I recommend you try my book—though, I’m admittedly biased there haha.
The story follows Carr, a modern-day fencer who ends up in a fantasy world, after being betrayed by his best friend. Once he gets there, he refuses to use the magic system—partially due to his principles, and partially due to the circumstances behind him being sent to that world, which are darker than they first appear.
If you’re wondering how people are taking to the story, so far, my favourite quote from a review I got was this one:
Watching him basically morph the lives of the people he interacts with using his work ethic and love for the sport just scratches an itch I didn't know I had.
And this really warms my heart because…well, sharing my love of the sport was one of my major reasons for writing this novel to begin with.
Regardless of whether the novel interests you or not, I hope you enjoyed the cover because goddamn it’s a beautiful picture. I honestly didn’t know what to expect from my cover, but my artist was amazing and I have had that as my wallpaper for months now haha.
This timing is kind of nuts, because Duellist's Road is really good, came out two days ago, and sounds like exactly what you're looking for. The majority of the book is...well, duels.
Here you go!
I would like to shout out my boy u/TuneSquadFan4Ever book
