Looks like it lasted about 12 hours, judging by today's tweets.
Dungeon Master's Guide is cheap (299 MXN) on Amazon México right now, in case anyone here is within their shipping area.
The US MSRP on all of the books is $50. Amazon just discounts them down to $30. Compare to the DMG which shows:
>Buy new:$26.48
>List Price: ~~$49.95~~
It will almost certainly be available for pre-order for $30, like other recent books.
Okay, I'm gonna be that guy. Support your content creators. Pay for your content. If you can't afford the full $50, you can order it off Amazon for less than $30 https://www.amazon.com/dp/0786965622 or you can get your group to pitch in.
If you're not sure whether you want the DMG, borrow one from a friend, or just take a look at one at your local gaming store.
But as everyone else says, you don't need it to get started, but you'll definitely need it eventually.
DMG shows up as just shy of 30 dollars.
There's one online for you! Amazon is a good resource for stuff like that.
The rulebook gives you the basic rules of play, combat, basic exploration, character creation, ect. Preferably whoever is going to be the DM will have this, and the bestiary (especially the bestiary, but neither are 100% vital. You only have to DM if you can't convince someone else to be one.
Edit: I should specify, in D&D the bestiary is usually called the Monster Manual, which contains stats for lots of monsters.
Edit Edit: Further clarification, the Dungeons Masters guide provides a lot of rules to help things like traveling, exploration, adventure/world creation, ect, and has a lot of magic items to use, but none of it is necessary.
> a lot of people like to support the shop... or just want the instant gratification
These are the main reasons I do a lot of my shopping at a local store. I paid full retail price ($49.99) for the Dungeon Master's Guide, for example, instead of buying it for $27.47 on Amazon.
Just a quick reminder that the 5e DM guide literally have "Entertain and inspire your players" printed in bold red letters on it's back cover.
Looks like it's 50% off with prime shipping. Sold and shipped by amazon

Fifth Edition, definitely. The various editions are largely incompatible. Here’s the Amazon link, just in case.
If you want to do this but with less steps, just convert your character to Spell Points. It's a variant rule in that obscure reference manual nobody's read.
Basically, no more spell slots. You get a fistful of points, and it costs X points to cast a spell at a given level. Not super compatible with Warlock, but works for the others.
As an example, a Level 6 Wizard would have 32 Spell Points per Long Rest, getting back 6 Spell Points back with Arcane Recovery.
To cast Fireball, they need to burn 5 spell points. If they really want to dominate a fight, they could cast 6-7 Fireballs in a day and still have some room for Mage Armor and that one spell they use during exploration.
Yes... the "old" term....

You say you have not played 5e as of yet but believe you know it well enough to run a game without the book that explains how to run the game....Get the book.
Yes, it is worth it.
No, you cannot just convert magic items from 2 editions ago without having any knowledge or experience with this edition.
More than you can imagine has changed in this edition (from 3.5).
The book is $19.66 (with clicking the $1.28 coupon on the page) on Amazon. Twenty Bucks. Go buy it.

It all depends on your preference but I recommend 5th edition also theirs a starter kit https://www.walmart.com/ip/Dungeons-Dragons-Dungeons-Dragons-Starter-Set-Game/37282882 if you down to buy that it comes with a premise campaign for beginners and I believe it comes with premade characters it’s ideal for 4-6 players. One of you will have to be the dungeon master(dm) who leads the characters through the story and plays the npcs(non playable characters) you’ll also play the creatures/characters your players fight against id recommend these books for now or later on when you start building your own characters etc... this for the dm https://www.amazon.com/Dungeons-Dragons-Dungeon-Rulebook-Roleplaying/dp/0786965622 and this for more monsters https://www.amazon.com/Volos-Guide-Monsters-Wizards-Team/dp/0786966017 and this for character creation etc https://www.amazon.com/Players-Handbook-Dungeons-Dragons-Wizards/dp/0786965606 as for dice it’s not that hard each player needs one d4, d6, d8, d10, d12, and a d20 you’ll also want a 10 sided percentile die here’s a cheap set off amazon with plenty of dice(theirs probably cheaper this is just the first thing I saw) https://www.amazon.com/Polyhedral-Drawstring-Dungeons-Pathfinder-Including/dp/B07DSCST6K now non of this is required of course for character creation you can always use sites such as dnd beyond or apps like fight club 5 which are free the only thing that’s really required is the dice. Now I know that’s a lot but honestly it’s a externally fun game and I’ve met some of my closest friends through it
Amazon usually has a decent deal. The DMG is $29 right now.
You can buy them from your local game store (though perhaps not now due to the pandemic) or via Amazon. Sometimes they have bundle deals.
If you prefer electronic, you can also find the DMG available via Fantasy Grounds, Steam and at D&D Beyond.
dnd 5th edition monster manual
You don't really neeeeeed them, as the phb has a bunch of info in it. But by the time you guys get through them you should be able to find stuff on your own.
I tend to just do dnd 5th edition searchs. Or htere is a /r/dndnext for specific stuff
DMG is currently $34.80 on Amazon.ca, and this is the version that my wife and I bought when we were getting set up in January. Same with the Monster Manual.

Roll20 is a popular online gaming site. I've ran stuff for groups there in the past. It's a pretty good tool, expect to put in some effort to get what you want out of it.
I know this sub is listed DND5th, but /r/dndnext (the old code name before it became 5th) and /r/dnd are both much more frequented. /r/rpg also has some dnd content specific to 5e.
There is a new SRD/OGL, see details here: http://dnd.wizards.com/articles/features/systems-reference-document-srd. The DM's guild is where I would go for adventures and other stuff: http://www.dmsguild.com/
What specifically are you looking for? Do you need characters sheet or a guide on being a DM?
If you're looking for a guide to DM, there's an official guide on Amazon for 5th edition
It's sub $30 on Amazon if you have prime, too!
