Thanks - yeah we're right next to swamp land in New England. So like right now trying to do some spring gardening it's the small black flies dive bombing my eyeballs. Then in a few weeks we'll be getting mosquitoes in droves. Then in June/ July we get the deer/ horse flies. I have used a box fan when we're just sitting on the back porch and it does work ok but trying to do anything else active in the backyard especially after sunset, forget it.
I'd hate to buy a nice new backpack fogger just to be disappointed with the results. We got a dynatrap and even though it trapped a decent amount of bugs, felt like it didn't do much for the overall mosquito population.
Like you said it's a constant game of cat and mouse. Huge PITA but just trying to have the backyard a bit more enjoyable.
Honestly...we have horses in the PNW and we have a pretty bad mosquito problem in the warmer months so we fight them diligently as they carry H1N1, bird flu, and a host of other diseases harmful to us and the horses. I've deployed two of these on our 8 acre horse ranch and they do a fantastic job of reducing the problem by 90%+. Dynatrap I dump the baskets out quarterly and they are full of the buggers. Bats are on the decline like bees due to global warming and pesticides use. But still, don't not put up bat/owl boxes.
Sure! Here's the one I got . It covers up to 1 acre, they sell cheaper ones that cover less area too. That was what pushed me over the edge too! I went to take my dogs out and stopped to talk to my neighbor, and my legs were literally covered with mosquitos and then bites. It was gross! My husband pointed out that we're being vigilant about corona, but will end up with West Nile or something. So, it seemed expensive, but I used the health aspect to justify it!
We've have good luck with both a Dynatrap and Spartan Mosquito Pro Tech. Happy smoking

$800 for batteries? That's a lot more than I thought, but ok and $400 for all the panels? And about $200 for the controller and inverter? About $1400.
I am kind of concerned about it all disappearing. We have a huge homeless problem in San Diego and they steal everything. This is at a boarding stable and not at my house. The stable backs up to undeveloped land and my stall is on the very end. I have never seen any homeless people as it is in a very nice area-next to the racetrack in Del Mar, but those crackheads can pop up anywhere. I am sure they would just love to have a solar set up for themselves-- or they'd probably sell it all for $50 and buy drugs. I could lock the batteries up somehow.
Another person suggested one of these: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01G9FBKT4
Would that be less expensive to have? Please, if you don't mind.
Two of these on 10 acres, we are pretty much mosquito free. Amazon link. I was fed up and going to try the fans again, but they have pretty large turnouts now, so fans would just be a waste of energy.
