I've been using these for years too and they're quite good but sometimes depending on what kind of music I'm listening to things can sound a bit muffled. Obviously, you're never gonna get ideal sound while protecting your ears unless you drop the money for customs but I just ordered Earasers from amazon and I'm looking forward to trying them since they seem to work quite differently than other earplugs and I've read a lot of good reviews. I'll let you guys know how they perform after this weekend.

Check out Earasers they're $40 and easily one of my favorite music-related purchases. You can also get them 2-day shipped for free if you have Amazon Prime so that helps.
If its his dream concert, splurge and get some high quality earplugs like "earrasers" https://www.amazon.com/Earasers-HEM001-Musicians-Plugs-Medium/dp/B00E2D9HAA they are some of the best cheap earplugs. They will allow for the highest quality sound over foam or rubber plugs. I honestly prefer wearing them for concerts, because it makes everything a bit more "clearer"
See you at the show \m/
These are the ones I have: Earasers HiFi Hearing Protection for Musicians Medium https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00E2D9HAA/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_glt_fabc_B7D63P6RP86DR2JEAPHB?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
I haven't actually tried them out yet. I'm going to see Islands at Underground Arts a few days before Osees so that will be my trial run!
For earplugs, I have earasers and I love them (you can get them in different sizes to fit your ears).
+1 for custom plugs. They're by far the most comfortable. Some of them also come with interchangable filters for different decibel level reductions.
If you're looking for a less expensive alternative, earasers are great too!

Quality earplugs definitely help. If you have $40 to drop I'd buy Earasers. I bought them about half a year ago and shows got much better. You can talk to people still if you need to, hear the show fine, and it helps the mix sound better.
My favorite earplugs are Earasers - they're a soft silicone similar to the ribbed Hearos (but even softer), but they're more form-fitting to my ear canals. They attenuate all frequencies evenly, so I can hear everything really well, and they only attenuate about 15-19dB so I don't play too loud either. I wear them any time I'm around loud music.
These are a good middle ground for if you're not trying to break the bank, but also retain great audio quality. I can't go to a show without these anymore, and trust me when I say they don't degrade the quality of the show at all. Actually improves it imo because I hate having my ears blown out.
These are the best earplugs I've come across: https://www.amazon.com/Earasers-HEM001-Musicians-Plugs-Medium/dp/B00E2D9HAA . In order to become more independent, she needs to figure out what makes daily chores and such so difficult- sensory issues? Executive functioning difficulties/autistic inertia? A loop of depression brought on by lack of independence/agency?
Have you guys looked into online college? She could maybe just take one class at a time. If reading is difficult, she could have Irlen Syndrome. Amazon sells overlay samples. The actual glasses are better but pretty expensive.
Ah. I wasn't looking at the Musicians Earplugs one, but the ER/ETY ones.
I got him these to see how he likes them. If he doesn't like them, I'll definitely look into the custom route.
I use Earasers and am incredibly happy with them. It takes a little while to get used to them but they are great at taking out the harmful sound but not destroying the quality and sounding muffled.
I have used them at festivals as well as when I saw Muse at Webster Hall this past May.
Fan in California here. I’m a guy and I go to concerts alone all the time. First thing I recommend: bring a factory sealed bottle of water. Most venues allow you to bring an unopened bottle of water inside, although sometimes they take off the cap so you have to walk around with an open bottle of water. Venues often have pricey water and it can be inconvenient to go get water during the show, so having your own bottle of water is great. Stay hydrated but also remember it can be tricky to go bathroom during a show too.
Other than that, when going to a concert alone, be prepared for a little awkwardness when waiting for the band to start playing. Most people in the crowd are with at least one friend or with a group. So there’s naturally going to be a discomfort when your just standing there alone, especially if everyone is waiting for the band to come on. But I learned to just embrace the awkwardness of being there alone amongst groups of friends. Sometimes I go on my phone, but most of the time I’m just feeling the music that is playing over the speakers. My best advice is to pick a spot in the crowd that would be ideal for you. That means avoiding taller people in front of you so they won’t block your view. Also, depending on how much your looking to dance and groove, you want to try and be around people that are on the same page as you. So if you’re rocking out and jumping around, its so awesome if everyone around you is too. But if you’re just calming standing and not really moving, it’s nice to be around similar people. Since this will be a Soccer Mommy show, you probably won’t have to worry about aggressive people but you should always be aware of your surroundings and avoid any problematic people like belligerent drunks or the annoying people who talking during the songs. And this goes without saying, but always keep your safety in mind and don’t take anything from any stranger. So don’t let someone get a drink for you and give you their drugs to try, it’s just not worth it to trust a stranger.
But that being said, one of the best things about shows is meeting other fans! I always try to stay open to talking to people if the situation is right, especially if I see someone else near me is alone. There’s things you can say to get the ball rolling like “So how long have you been waiting?”, “Did the opening band start already? How were they?”, “How many times have you seen the band live?”, etc. It’s really awesome to make buddies at a show but sometimes it can only happen if that circumstances are right and organic. You can sometimes tell when people are really open to conversing with new people while others may not be interested at all. Personally, I usually smoke weed at shows so thats a great way to meet people lol
Anyway, I hope some of that info can be useful! Main things are to stay hydrated, don’t get too fucked up, have a plan on how to get home, avoid standing next to people who are gonna be talking/filming with their phone the whole time.
PS. Most important tip I can give about concerts in general is to bring ear plugs! I highly recommend musician earplugs which are high-fidelity and allows the good frequencies to come through and blocks the damaging frequencies. Shows tend to have the sound decibels so high that you walk out with ringing ears, especially because a live drumset is incredible loud. You want to avoid ear damage and ringing ears as much as possible so you can enjoy music and shows forever!!! I use Earasers ear plugs which are about $40 for a pair and I prefer them over other musician earplugs I’ve tried. I used to just bring the regular foam earplugs but they block out too much sound and you can’t even talk to people next to you with them, so the musician earplugs are worth it and a great investment even if they’re a bit pricey.
Here is an old comment of mine where I detailed eveything to know about using the Earaser ear plugs
Earaser earplugs on Amazon for $39.99
Best wishes!
I use Earasers I can have a normal conversation with the person next to me and I can still feel and hear the bass, My head just doesn't ring after the festival.
I'm a bassist and when I play live, I use a set of Earasers that I got from Guitar Center. Super comfortable and have been great ear protection.

Earasers are my favorite in terms of sound quality and fit
I have a pair of these https://www.amazon.com/EARasers-Noise-Cancelling-Earplugs-Reduction/dp/B00E2D9HAA
Uh oh, different sizes? I guess you can return anything on Amazon I just kind of laugh at the idea of trying earplugs and sending them back lol

I use these https://www.amazon.com/Earasers-HEM001-Musicians-Plugs-Medium/dp/B00E2D9HAA
They are great but a little more expensive.
Hi, I think what you're looking for are called musicians earplugs. They lower volume without muffling sound quality. The ones I have are called Earasers https://www.amazon.com/Earasers-HEM001-Musicians-Plugs-Medium/dp/B00E2D9HAA/ref=sr_1_1_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1487460400&sr=8-1&keywords=earasers+earplugs
I find those work pretty well, my only gripe about them is they sometimes wiggle loose (but not fall out). They arent the ones that go inside your ear like a qtip or something, they're like the old ipod earbuds.
The other ones I have are called Etymotic earplugs https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00RM6Q9XW/ref=sr_ph_1_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1487460473&sr=sr-1&keywords=etymotic+earplugs
I like these ones because they actually go inside your ear so they don't get loose. Personally, I wear the etymotic more often but the Earasers are more comfortable.
Lmk if you have any questions! Always happy to help. I have a ton of earplugs but those two are my favorite. Protect your hearing!!!!
I'd recommend earaser https://www.amazon.com/Earasers-HEM001-Musicians-Plugs-Medium/dp/B00E2D9HAA
I have been using Earasers for loud, live practices. Love em!
ill.Gates recommends these: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00E2D9HAA/ref=as_li_tl
Edit: ...and they are only $40.
