I used one of these and a 5 gallon bucket to wash clothes for a couple of years. That was for two adults, a toddler, baby, and included cloth diapers. It’s quite an arm workout, but was doable. It was tedious to hand wring everything out before hanging it to dry, but overall saved us so much money in laundry costs. It’d be a really great option for a single person.
We needed to reset our diapers for baby #2. This entailed rinsing the diapers for a long time. I purchased the Easy Go hand washing wand off Amazon. It made the process much easier. However we haven’t used it on soiled diapers. But if I ever needed to I would definitely used this and a bucket.

Ah yes, welcome to porter life.
You want the powdered oxiclean. Just get the regular one, the one that says "odor blaster" costs more and doesn't actually work any better. Fill a bucket with ice cold water (could also use a tub but I don't b/c I bathe my kid in there and it skeeves me out, YMMV) and add powdered oxiclean at a ratio of 2 scoops per gallon of water. Really mix it together well so it dissolves. Add clothes. Irrigate with a plunger, or one of these. Let it sit overnight, check on it, let sit longer if needed, and then wash as normal.
have a few cases of wipes, I can use those for months, and found this hand washer to use in 5 gallon bucket for clothes
apakah disini ada yang tau versi shopee dari produk ini? a washing wand thingy untuk cuci pakaian, atau ada yang tau alat nyuci pakaian laen?
I normally hate tacti-cool s&%t, but Rite In The Rain products are fantastic I've got extra pens and paper for my old field book from when I was in the military because they really do work in darn near any conditions.
We did ours by hand during covid in da tub until our landlord said he didn’t want to see laundry hanging outside smdh. Used this little [contraption. ](www.amazon.com/dp/B00YQCOCAM/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_J0JZ2QBQB4YSTSJ0XVYR?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1) worked great, but a plunger sounds even better.
You can hand-wash your clothes in a bathtub for nothing but the cost of laundry detergent while you save, though.
And you can buy tools for doing this cheaper than a single trip to the laundromat.
I absolutely understand how poverty works -- I've been insanely poor. But more importantly, I learned how to escape it.
You escape poverty by investing in yourself. You can do that in very small ways, and it adds up.
For example, for less than the price of one $30 cab ride, you could buy this laundry agitator tool and wash all your own clothes at home.
Plus, you're no longer paying for the washing machines, so you've saved another $5 right there.
Amazon has some options. You can also do it in your bathtub for cheap, with this tool: https://www.amazon.com/EasyGoProducts-Hand-Powered-Clothes-Washing/dp/B00YQCOCAM/ref=sr_1_7_sspa?dchild=1&keywords=manual+washing+machine&qid=1614112486&sr=8-7-spons&psc=1&smid=A2KE1MJRDTDO9P&spLa=ZW5jcnlwdGVkUXVhbGlmaWVyPU...
Order as many of these clothes washing devices as you can for people. They're cheap and it makes life so much better to have clothes that aren't filthy and stinky. It allows you to wash your clothes using two buckets and water (even from a creek, just try to get water that isn't muddy) and some soap or detergent.
My first six months at site I hand washed. One tub for washing, one for rinsing, then hang to dry. It'd take at least an hour for a week's worth of clothes.
Then I got smart, I came across this website by one of those doomsday preper/apocalypse type guys. He had this idea for washing clothes without electricity and it changed my life. Basically you need just a toliet plunger and large tall bucket, what we call a 5 gallon bucket in the USA. The plunger can be substituted with a number of instruments but I've found if you can get ahold of a plunger, it works best. You cut some holes in the plunger so water can through. Then to do laundry, put a couple handfuls of soap in the bucket, add the plunger, and put all your clothes in around the plunger. Then add water to pretty much the top. I always add about a 2 liters of hot water too as I find that is extra effective. Let soak about an hour. The to wash simply move the plunger up and down for a about 10 minutes. Then rinse in a separate tub and hang to dry. Before each piece of clothing took about 5 minutes. Now all of them take about 10. I'm able to fit a pair of pants, couple shorts, couple shirts, t-shirt, 3 underwear and 2 pair socks all in one load.
My clothes have never been cleaner and it's super easy. Maybe 20 minutes tops per week for all my clothes. This works exactly like an electrical wash machine except you provide the power. The water and clothes and soap all mix together and agitate each other and rub against each other just like they do in your mom's wash machine back in the good old USA. It's brilliant.
After I made the plunger I found out there's actually a whole line of commercial products you can buy on Amazon to replace the plunger. Look up "magic washing wand" or something like that and read the reviews yourself. I love my little plunger washer. Highly recommended if you can find the materials.
Also side note, I always do my washing inside now whereas before I did it outside. It can get a bit messy, but hcns here would laugh at me if they saw my style (Im a guy). They generally think I have no idea how to do household chores and scrutinize basically everything I do already. But for me at least and my skill set, my clothes are 10 times cleaner than when I was hand washing.
EDIT: link to the commercial version you can buy on Amazon. Fwiw, I still use a toliet plunger and its fine

When we lived in a place with no laundry, we got a giant bucket and one of these:

Highly recommend.
What about laundry service, where you drop it off dirty/pick it up clean?
Or this.. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00YQCOCAM/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_glt_fabc_RHSFAXA5EGVXKKG1QXZM

It works fine for camping.
Well, the campground we camp for the longest stretches at... there's a general store just down the road with a washing machine outside you can pay to use. BYO detergent and such. So that's nice. You might want to ask around.
Otherwise:
This plus a 5-gallong bucket: https://www.amazon.com/EasyGoProducts-Hand-Powered-Clothes-Washing/dp/B00YQCOCAM/
Or this: https://www.amazon.com/Scrubba-Wash-Bag-Portable-Backpacking/dp/B01N68XF0O/
Or this: https://www.amazon.com/Lavario-Portable-Non-Electric-Apartments-Delicates/dp/B07CZNN4WL/
This is what I do, except I use a 5 gallon bucket and this from amazon:

I also have coin operated laundry and there's no way I'm spending $4-$5 after every training session. This also uses less water so it's more environmentally friendly, which matters to me.
For my small loads I use a 5 gal bucket and something similar to this. Spin dry with a dryer from Laundry Alternative then hang dry.
Oh what about something like this! https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00YQCOCAM/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_i_E9EGF4Z2FVCFGA9969F4
It's an easy hand washing tool!!
If you want the most budget way to wash your clothes, all you need is a plunger, two 5 gal buckets, and manual labor. You can either buy this device:
Or get a toilet plunger and cut holes to let water through and get a long handle, you want to plunge while standing, not sitting. Similar to this picture:
https://fivegallonideas.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/05/washer-plunger.jpg
Put the 2 buckets in the bathtub. Put clothes in 1 bucket, put about 1 tablespoon of detergent, pour warm water 3/4 of the way. If it's heavy soiled, let it soak for an hour. If it's light soil, just plunge away. Do few mins. Remove clothes and rinse quick under the tub faucet or shower wand. Put quick rinse clothes in 2nd bucket. Fill with water. Plunge few mins. Wring dry the clothes and hang to dry. Empty both buckets out and repeat with other loads.
You can hang either with a clothesline over the bathtub like you see in hotels or hang outside on the clothesline if available. This is what we did in the 60's.
This exploded view shows it better than my photo, but this is too big for one-bagging IMO. This design works great for van/car camping. That's how I started.
The plunge forces soap and water through the fabric. This water is forced up the center cone and channelled down the outside of the cone, rotating the water flow up the center and down the outside. The upstroke sucks more water through and aerates the water. Read the reviews, They do work.
Forcing the water through even heavy fabrics with the pump force of a CPR chest compression is what makes it work so well. My fingers cannot do near as much and not nearly as long a time as the plunger. Rinsing rinses cleaner, in part because my fingers and fists get tired.
I designed my plunger off of a different model. The one I designed from doesn't have a name on it, but it's a more basic model of what Amazon is selling. My DIY plunger is fist sized with an old scrubber being the handle and a pair of funnels making the bottom. Mine is DIY and looks it, but packs small with para cord making my clothes line filling the funnel space when being carried.
Not just specifically for cycling kit but buy a 5 gallon bucket and something like this.

Gets the job done with a little bit of muscle.
Unfortunately, I don't think the coin shortage is going away anytime soon. Something like this manual washer might hold you over in an emergency type situation.
I don't know of any drill option. But here is another solution. I've never used one and don't own one. But it's worth a shot. https://www.amazon.com/EasyGoProducts-Hand-Powered-Clothes-Washing/dp/B00YQCOCAM/ref=sr_1_5?keywords=hand+washing+machine&qid=1569200809&sr=8-5

I bought this a while back to help agitate gis as I dye them, works really well!
> Poor people tend to lack spare time and energy for such tasks.
They also tend to lack... the money... >.>
> Let's assume for a second this lady even has the space in her probably cramped apartment
You can do laundry in a bathtub or sink, and unless you're homeless, you have one of those. Space isn't really a roadblock here.
> A mom working retail to make ends meet may literally not have the energy to spend 2 hours doing manual labor on a day off.
It's not 2 hours of constant terrible labor. You can get cheap tools that make the job very easy. You basically just lean on it with your body weight a few times every few minutes.
That's way less work, and way cheaper, than packing everything into a cab and making a trip out.
