You charge it like a phone. So it charges by USB just like a phone would.
I buy the cheapest one I can find and I like the 20000mAh (the big boys)
Here is an Amazon link to one I personally bought.
You can do more then you think with USB power. I can last 4 days charging my gadgets with moderate use. It take leaving it at work one day over night to charge it fully. I have 4 of them just on case.
So, normally I would totally recommend an Anker brand. I have a lot of their products, but with regard to this specific battery pack, I've had issues.
In the past when I owned this model, it does not correctly adjust the draw it will put on a USB port, and will try to draw more than 2.1 AMPs on a port that isn't capable of more than that. I know this because I had both a personal and work macbook, and on both machines it will always cause the port to go into failsafe mode -- where it shuts down to prevent damage from something pulling way too many amps.
I also had an Anker charger, which I still use, which would go into failsafe mode itself when the battery was charing on it.
As a last resort, I even had Anker refund me and I bought a second battery pack on Amazon, thinking I got a lemon -- same exact result across both MacBooks and the Anker charger. So just be careful with these batteries, as you may run into problems.
I've had a great amount of success with this brand, and I carry this in my backpack currently: https://www.amazon.com/EC-Technology-22400mAh-External-Battery/dp/B00FDK2G2C
Every now and then Amazon has this charger on sale for around $25. You can charge your phone a lot before you need to charge the battery pack again. I carry a drawstring bag when I'm out playing pokemon. Too bulky to carry in a pocket.
Most capacity I’ve ever seen for the money. I have used this for 6 years
EC Technology 22400mAh Power Bank Ultra High Capacity External Battery 3 USB Output(5.5A) Powerbank Dual Input Port (4A) Portable Charger for iPhone, iPad, Samsung, Nexus and More, Black and Red https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00FDK2G2C/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_ZosTAbE20BWTB
This seems pretty expensive to me. I have a [22,400 mAh EC powerbank](www.amazon.com/dp/B00FDK2G2C/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_d6I3zb4YKF9AW) for only $32.99. For $22 more(and thats if you get the promo code to work, $63.99/ more than twice as much, is ridiculous) all you get is an extra 4000 mAh, This RAVPower doesn't seem worth it in my eyes. I have had the EC powerbank for about a year. Lasts what feels like forever and charges my Switch faster than any of my games drain it. Definitely would recommend the EC powerbank over OP and save $22
Start by
1) changing your email setting. Set it to check your mail every so many minutes or hours instead of being on push notification where it's always sending out requests for email updates.
2) turning off "app can run in the background when not in use"
3) get use to carrying a portable battery. This was the option I chose. Kind of a pain but this portable battery lasts me days.
This is the one I use 22400mAh.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00FDK2G2C/
I don't know exactly how much it will go as I've never gotten it past about half. but it will keep a Samsung S8 and an iPhone 7 charged for three days.
*EDIT Damn when I got mine it only had one 2A input for charging. Now you can plug in 2x2A charging inputs.
I've been using the EC Technology battery bank for the past year and a half. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00FDK2G2C I really can't say anything bad about it using it with my phone, and switch. On the 2.4A plug it even manages to charge my switch while playing Zelda. I did get it on sale for $18 with a coupon, though, and even though the reviews aren't necessarily the best, it's really been great for me.
Of course you are practically guaranteed to have a perfect device with the Anker, and great warranty, its price is what made me choose the EC Tech, on sale.
EC Technology 22400mAh Power Bank Ultra High Capacity External Battery 3 USB Output External Battery Pack With LED Flashlight Portable Charger for iPhone, iPad, Samsung, Nexus, HTC and More- Black & Red https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00FDK2G2C/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_PMyczbGG2PZ8W
This relatively inexpensive power bank will charge my iPhone 5s entirely nine times
I have this EC 22400 mAh power bank.
It's been charging the system fine when it's in sleep mode or the power is off, but does not charge the battery while playing BotW, it simply slows down battery consumption due to a maximum of 2.4. It does hold about two full charges though.
I have this one. I got it on sale for $20 last summer on Amazon and I've only used it a little bit so far but it did charge the Switch while I was playing Zelda.
The other one that might give you issues is the avalanche run because it's got a current draw of 425mA. I've also read about how some people connect one of those portable phone chargers like this into the charging port and gotten a much longer battery life off of it, but I've never tried that myself.
I bought this about 2 years ago ($32 for 22400mAh), it works great for charging my phone, iPad, and 3DS on the go. It's a bit hefty in weight but it was really worth it for my trip to California when I was constantly out and about. It has the iPad port for 2.4A but I assume the Switch will draw less than that from the actual port since it uses USB-C.
i use this EC power charger and its ok. i've always wondered if it was really 20 MAH but if its not i still like it.
After having to charge my phone several times today, I was looking at this.
What are you using?
10,000 mAh is a pretty good capacity. It's hard to actually find a battery with a 100,000 mAh capacity, and those that you can find are huge. This is one of the smallest true 20,000 mAh batteries on amazon and it's six inches long.
I actualy just purchased this portable charge. Heavy as hell, but will charge my phone on the better side of six times. Being 22, my mother still wants me to stay in contact with her etc etc plus I plan on using it as my only camera. Thanks for the heads up!
It looks like the Olympus TG-4 battery is only 1350mAh and it can be recharged via USB (directly in the camera).
If you get this battery pack: http://www.amazon.com/EC-Technology-22400mAh-External-Smartphones/dp/B00FDK2G2C/ at 22400mAh you could recharge at least a dozen times. Then recharge the pack whenever you have access to power or charge it with solar.
I just bought one of these and it arrived in the mail today. It charges my Surface 3 just fine. Do a google search for a coupon code. I had one that took the price down to $18.99, but I can't find it again. It may not still be good, but it's worth a look. Price is great for what it is anyway.
I'm using a 22,400mAh powerbank now. Bought it off Amazon.
Now just waiting for a clear night. With this powerbank, I can set the Gopro up to record all night.
Tried an external battery instead?
Used this while traveling internationally. Worked great, and no need to buy different batteries when you get a new phone.
Agreed that Anker's are good, I have a 3,000 mAh one that I carry for emergencies.
If I know there will be a period of a few days where I may not have an outlet to charge from, this beast is great.
24,000 mAh and 3 usb ports with different max outputs (2.4A, 2A, and 1A) as well as a white LED light.
It's not terribly large for the capacity and the price is right.
I got one for me and one for my mom for Christmas.
Things I was thankful to have:
Power bank from Amazon. Blown away by the quality for the price. Charged my phone at the end of every day, and power bank still had a few charges after returning home. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00FDK2G2C/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_HpSrBb06VMGXZ
Adventuridge 2L Hydration Pack. Have a 1L Camelbak but doesn’t have any pockets, so i was looking for more of a backpack with a bladder. Got this guy from ALDI for $15. Held up incredibly well, and had space for me to store an extra layer to keep warm (went weekend one so was a little cool at night), my Eno, and other miscellaneous stuff.
Eno Doublenest Hammock. This was my first Forest, and after reading a bunch of reddit posts, I was debating if bringing my hammock would be worth it due to the limited space to hang it. Entered the venue early each day and there was plenty of room. Great way to take a nap when the tent is too hot.
Chaco Sandals. Never worn Tevas, but I’m sure they’re comparable. The soles are incredibly sturdy and it’s nice to allow your feet to breathe. Only recommendation is to make sure you break them in. I retired my old Chacos after six years and got a new pair just before Forest. Had a little bit of rubbing that I’m sure could have been avoided if I broke them in more.
Pashmina. I’m a guy who had never used or owned a pashmina before. I raided Goodwill for some outfits our group did. Found a bunch of pashminas/huge, lightweight infinity scarves for a dollar each. Great way to add an extra layer if it gets a little cold, or cover your head if it’s bright, or you just want to block out your peripherals a bit. Easily attached to your backpack with a carabiner when you aren’t using it. Will never go to a festival without one again.
Masks from iHeartRaves. Three for $15. These are like the buffs Survivor contestants wear. Ended up wearing them as headbands, dust masks, and eye masks while I slept. Probably will be sure to have dedicated ones for each purpose or put a few drops of essential oils on them since they got a little funky smelling by the end of the day if I wore them as a headband.
Koopower Blanket. Great alternative to a hammock when trees weren’t available or if we wanted to lie down for a set. Super compact and lightweight. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B078WPJZL7/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_xJSrBbBWJ055C
Body Glide. This looks like a stick of deodorant, but it helps prevent chaffing/ rubbing. Great when you’re walking around all day in the heat. They also make a stick specifically for your feet to avoid blisters. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00288L2N6/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_-QSrBbHWPMRNX
Air mattress. This was my first four day fest, and we got in on Wednesday. Was incredibly thankful to not sleep on the ground, and actually slept incredibly well with the help of an air mattress.
Shoe Organizer/Hanging Closet for storing stuff at camp. Our group’s rave mom is incredibly organized and brought two expandable shoe organizers to hang on the side of our canopy. We used them to store snacks and random items. Was like having a closet or pantry while camping. Again, we went weekend 1, so we didn’t have the crazy winds. I’d imagine that our stuff would have end up everywhere if we did, but worked for us! Something like this: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B071WN9RXM/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_c.SrBbJRBVVTY
The brand and power bank are unknown to me. I'm posting based on what is listed.
Switch Charger Ratings:
CamelCamelCamel says the product showed up on Amazon in late June.
If you're interested in this type and size of power bank but don't trust this post check out the EC Technology 22400mAh. Same capacity and price. And I've reviewed that one.
Yea there are some really great ones on amazon i have used. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00FDK2G2C/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
The solar ones are gimmicky and don't work well (reviews say 48 hours + of constant sunlight)
If you take these apart, they are just full of the same batteries used in Vapes. Obviously after a number of charge/discharge cycles, the batteries will stop holding a charge (just like any battery) so there are other options, like these: https://www.amazon.com/10400mAh-External-Battery-Charger-2-Port/dp/B012CN6Q7I/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1471617996&sr=8-1&keywords=power+bank+18650
Where you can replace the batteries
Stove and/or Grill - A small Coleman propane stove with a frying pan will give you tons of options for cooking. If you'd rather have a grill, they make inexpensive, small camping versions of those too. (see links)
Dry Ice - this can be useful for keeping large amounts of food frozen for the weekend. Don't use it for beverages as they will freeze and/or explode. Keep it covered/wrapped and keep the cooler shut. Dry ice does not melt, it evaporates, so keep it out of exposed air. And don't touch it, you'll burn yourself.
Food prep - freeze meats etc ahead of time, before putting them in the cooler. It will make your ice last longer. Then just thaw before you want to use
Battery Pack - I use this one from Amazon and it has the highest capacity you can get for the money. I started with just one, but now have three, because I literally ended up charging the phones of every campsite around me.
Cot VS Airbed - I made the switch to a cot years ago and it's a game changer. You can store stuff under it and save room in your tent as opposed to an air mattress that takes up the whole floor. It will depend on the size of your tent whether you can use a cot or not, but it's worth it.
Canopy - One canopy in your site is completely necessary for the Dover heat, but an extra one to put over your tent is a total game changer. The sun will hit your tent early in the morning turning it into a hot box, but having shade over the tent will fix it.

These are just a couple things, but there are a ton of other resources on this forum.

See you at the woodlands!

I got this one years ago, and it just happens to work perfectly as a counterbalance, both on the stock headband and on my DAS:
I bought this one years ago, turns out it is an absolutely perfect counterweight to the Quest.
I bought this one years ago, turns out it's absolutely perfect as a counterweight as well.
All of these guys below know what they're talking about. This is the battery I have.. I LOVE it. https://www.amazon.com/EC-Technology-22400mAh-Capacity-Powerbank/dp/B00FDK2G2C
I have this power bank which actually lets me charge and play splatoon, botw, etc. At the same time. I did get it on sale though, for $19, so there's that.
It's an EC Technology battery pack.
I've been using my EC Tech power bank everyday for over 6 months now and it still charges slightly faster than the wall charger my Pixel came with.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00FDK2G2C/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1
One of these, amazon prime video, and some headphones
My wife and I both use this one when we're out and have had ZERO issues. It even has a built-in flashlight.
This is what my wife and I use when we go out: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00FDK2G2C
Haven't had any issues with it.
this is the one I ordered https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00FDK2G2C/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Do you have these in your store and would you recommend them? I'm looking for a 20k one and debating between this and anker's 20k.
http://www.amazon.com/EC-Technology-22400mAh-Smartphones-Tablets-Black/dp/B00FDK2G2C Been using this one for a while now and couldn't be happier with it. Its one of the few out there that doesn't lie about the capacity rating. This video shows this power bank vs another popular option. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pxNLTRl36HQ
Edit: Use the middle port. They are rated at 1amp, 2amp, and 2.4 amp. The tablet is rated at 2.1amp max!
You should've used that money towards this external battery. Holds enough juice to charge an iPhone 6 at least 11+ times in comparison to the 1.75 times with the mini. $18.99 with code J29D3UMJ
Keep in mind that you're sacrificing portability, but if you're sporting a Camelbak then it won't really matter. Plus, if you're camping then it's also handy for those with you over the weekend that may need it. I personally have this external, but the one I link caught my eye on a deal site and thought I would share.
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00FDK2G2C/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_awd_qWL1wbWM8Q2C8
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00NIOGKL8/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_awd_eXL1wb8H79F8Y
These two are the biggest ones I have, I enjoy them a lot. The first link is probably my favorite one. I would recommend it over the second one. But they are both pretty damn good in my opinion.
This EC Technology power bank is probably the best I've ever had. Good for more than 5+ charges, and you can have multiple devices hooked up to it at once.
http://www.amazon.com/EC-Technology-22400mAh-External-Smartphones/dp/B00FDK2G2C
Would you recommend this? http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00FDK2G2C?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_search_detailpage
Or you can get this one with 22000mAh
I did not find replacement batteries. However, I'm going to be attempting some kludgery to get these packs to work for the jacket with the help of one of these. Take the 2.4A and the 2A input, wire them in parallel to the input of the booster, boost the voltage to 7.4v on the output side, and that should result in about 2.9A. If that's too much, I'll try the 2.4A and the 1A, which should be 2.29A.
I'll report back on if it works, or I let the smoke out (hopefully not the jacket's smoke).
This one is outside of the price point, but i use this for work travel https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00FDK2G2C/ref=cm_sw_r_awd_s-NrwbBNE87SK
If you are ever looking for more power, I use this one for travel: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00FDK2G2C/ref=cm_sw_r_udp_awd_Q7vWvbE397209
Kekekekek
I use this one for the Win 1. It's got enough juice to keep your phone and tablet going for a long while too. https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B00FDK2G2C/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
