This dock is just a housing for it so it doesn't look ugly at E3. It's literally just an external capture card.
I currently use the Elgato HD60 S for the Switch and I love it! It's a little convoluted to use the first time, but I had really nice video quality. You should be able to use it for the Wii U, too. If that's outside of your price range, you can find some decent capture cards that may have slightly lower quality or be a bit tougher to use.
Unfortunately, unless I'm behind the times, the only way to capture 3DS games is by having a custom capture card installed. On top of that, the only guy I know of who installed them has stopped doing so, for some reason. I haven't heard of any other options for a 3DS.
I'm using an Elgato HD60 S USB Video Capture Card connected to my PC. It has a pass-through that lets me play normally on my TV. I stream using Elgato's own freely-available Game Capture HD software.
I considered reviewing the video capture card, but I don't have enough experience with video capture cards to write a knowledgeable review.
I bought the [https://www.amazon.com/Elgato-Zero-Lag-Passthrough-Ultra-Low-1GC109901004/dp/B01DRWCOGA/ref=sr_1_3?crid=5CMFVV8TNR8U&keywords=elgato+capture+card&qid=1637810822&qsid=146-6592621-9986140&sprefix=Elg%2Caps%2C191&sr=8-3&sres=B... HD 60 S) but cheaper cards will work too
Capture Card 1080p 60 Capture, Zero-Lag Passthrough, Ultra-Low Latency, PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, USB 3.0 (1GC109901004) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01DRWCOGA/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_V6Y5ZR5SYAVTM9B1X4QF?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
I use this one. Works great and easy to use. You may be able to go cheaper. But you need to run it through a computer. If you have the computer, that should be al you need. But the videos will eat up memory, so I suggest an external hard drive if you don’t have a lot of memory on the computer.
You will need a device like this that takes the HDMI signal from the Xbox and can be added as a source into OBS. This also has an HDMI out which you will run to a monitor/TV so you can continue playing the game.
Elgato HD60 S is $143. Not sure if this is what you're looking for, but I love mine for the few months I've had it. Almost no latency, but I've only used with it my ps4 pro and my switch.
I just bought a capture card. Elgato HD60 S Capture Card 1080p 60 Capture, Zero-Lag Passthrough, Ultra-Low Latency, PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, USB 3.0 (1GC109901004) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01DRWCOGA/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_ZZ3DNMN14VTE859TVGS6?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1 I assume this one will be good. I have zero interest in streaming.
For The Netherlands there are multiple deals around 130 euro for the Elgato HD60S
Example Amazon.nl
Most electronics store have it. If not you can always check on amazon. It's around 200 Euros and capable of recording 1080p60 with maximum bitrate at 40Mbps.
https://www.amazon.com/Elgato-Game-Capture-HD60-PlayStation/dp/B01DRWCOGA
Pretty cheap if you are living in the state.
I use an El Gato external card for this exact reason. And it's pretty good, but not perfect. There will be a very slight delay in games that is ALMOST unnoticeable 99% of the time. When it becomes noticeable are in twitch-reflex situations, like catching a fish in Animal Crossing or close up fights in Smash.
For playing slower paced games, RPGs, etc, it should work totally fine for you.
I don't know a ton about cheaper alternatives, but I would be careful going TOO cheap, the delay would probably be a bit worse.
Also, probably skip out on whatever software comes with the card, and use OBS instead. OBS is really good.
Then I personally recommend you to buy a capture card for streaming or recording and you can upgrade you PC later.
At the moment you PC config is fine. Amazon Link
Keep in mind that card doesn’t have pass through so you won’t be able to view the game you are playing in your tv anymore so it will have to be through the laptop which can have latency. I would look at something like the Elgato HD60s here https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B01DRWCOGA/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_awdb_t1_SrhACbDEV3K9B It costs more but pass through is a must.
As for a recommended laptop, you will definitely want a quad core or greater cpu and a graphics card. The recommended specs are on the page.
Is there much of a difference between this and an external one such as the Elgato Game Capture HD60 S? (Besides the price ofc.)
I was thinking of trying one out but I'm not too familiar with capture cards, and they both say 1080p 60fps so I was wondering if one had an advantage over the other.
Using an external capture card is your only option, really. You could record gameplay from the Switch and add voiceover afterward but it'll only record the last 30 seconds at a time, and not all games even let you record video.
The Elgato HD60 S is the usual go-to for this kinda thing, and runs about $150 normally.
Once you have that, the rest should be pretty easy - Elgato has their own recording/editing software or you could just capture the video and edit it elsewhere.
Ok. If you’re ONLY going to be playing games on a console and using the PC to stream the console games, then thats all you’ll need is a capture card and decent internet.
Heres a 1080p60 capture card that will enable you to record and stream: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B01DRWCOGA/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_OF06AbE9SDNXN
A PS4 Pro will record at 1080p, the regular one maxes out at 720p.
The Elgato HD60S is pretty much the standard as far as I know. For 1080p 60fps capture you're likely to spend over $100 no matter what card you get.
sry but i have to ask, North America or Europe? The reason behind this question is Europe retro consoles have Scart/RGB connections while NA do not. amazon link to elgato: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Elgato-Capture-Stream-1080p60-PlayStation/dp/B01DRWCOGA/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1513342102&sr=8-1&keywords=elgato
The HD60 S does not have a built in hardware encoder, so it would still require your CPU or GPU to process the video just as if you weren't using the HD60 S at all. The HD60 and HD60 Pro both have built in encoders, and can therefore lighten the load on your system. There's a comparison chart for Elgato's capture cards about halfway down the page here on Amazon that shows each device's capabilities.
Now... All that being said, it's typically said that you do NOT want to use the H.264 encoder built into the capture card as its capabilities are limited compared to what your CPU/GPU are able to do in most cases. In practice, building a second system is really the only way to lighten the load on your gaming system without sacrificing quality.
They seem to publicly claim 1080/60... You're saying even if it could, the tower would be the only one capable right? or would the NVEC on the laptop be able to too?
With a production system like OBS (or something like TriCaster/Blackmagic/etc on the higher end side) you take in multiple sources. I've done the OBS+YouTube Live thing to backup our normal guy when he's out by using a couple of 1080p webcams and loose PTZ IP surveillance cameras I had sitting around. It can take almost any source so it's pretty flexible.
You could even use your existing Canon R20 in the system with a capture device (something like this on the low end).
True production switchers/equipment get pricey fast so it depends on your needs and budget. Hopefully you don't get stuck being the guy who has to stream all the board meetings!
In case you didn't know, you can record high quality footage using capture cards, but it'll cost you. Here's a good one. There are cheaper ones out there but the decent ones start at around $100.
I use an Elgato Game Capture HD60 S. https://www.amazon.com/Elgato-Game-Capture-HD60-technology/dp/B01DRWCOGA/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1490393018&sr=8-1&keywords=elgato+hd60s
It does not work as well as I would like, however once I figured out its quirks it works well enough most of the time. Apparently if you use it with a PC that has a Nvidia card (my case falls under this), you might have more issues to overcome to get this thing working consistently.
I do not know if there are better options out there as my searches did not yield a clear answer on that question.
Don't plan on it. Unless you specifically have hardware meant for it, you most likely don't have something that can get an input directly. i.e., TVs are meant for input, so they'll work. Laptops and desktops are built to be their own thing, so won't support display input. If your computer/laptop supports display input you've either put the hardware for it in yourself or you'll see it as a major selling point.
If you want to use a laptop display for your Switch, your best bet is likely a capture device e.g., Elgato 60 s
Yeah I agree, I wouldn't use it via hub. Looks like the laptop has three USB 3 ports so use one of those directly. I haven't tried the Magewell but I really like my Elgato HD60S (https://www.amazon.com/Elgato-Game-Capture-HD60-S/dp/B01DRWCOGA) which will use the same configuration /u/lemurofdiablo describes.
I use the Elgato HD60 S. A bit more expensive, but worth it in my eyes. No lag, no delay, and very reliable. Though only if you're streaming from consoles that support HDMI. Old school consoles won't work for this, though I haven't tried a converter yet.
Nope. I've wanted to use my Surface as a portable monitor as well and so far it's not possible. There's simply no video-in functionality.
EDIT: I should say I technically got it working by using a video capture device - specifically the Elgato Game Capture HD60 S. You can use the capture software to simply display the footage full screen without actually recording anything. This solution might be best for the RT because if you're not recording anything there's very minimal system resource utilization. I ended up returning it because of the crazy price tag ($175!!) and now just pack around a super thin 20.5" monitor in my backpack along with my PS3 or PS4 and Vita.
A capture card captures gameplay and streams it to your PC. Here is a link an El Gato. https://www.amazon.com/Elgato-Game-Capture-HD60-technology/dp/B01DRWCOGA/ref=sr_1_3?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1472431577&sr=1-3&keywords=el+gato
If you would like to follow, please go ahead. I mostly stream level design. It is hard to stream gameplay when the xbox twitch app is relatively weak.
I hope this helps!

You need a capture card and a chat-link lead. This runs from your xbox to a PC which records your gameplay using OBS studio. Here's what I use:

Reasons for desk: Unfortunately ikea discontinued a bunch of linmon table tops, and the massive ones were part of them, with he biggest being 38 inches, and a pc, triple monitors just wont fit on that. So this is an l shape desk with a shelf, and can support your triple monitors, and your pc. If you are streaming from consoles then you need a capture card, but if you dont, then why are you getting one?

This is what i could include in your buget. The cooler in the pc seems bad, so I suggest to take a better one maybe a hyper 212 would fit.
yeah it should work perfectly, and miners adore the 5700xt for its mining capacities so try selling it or trading it for a newer card like 3070, 3080, 6700xt, stream deck mini or something for your stream to really get creative an elgato capture card if u want to stream console games, If u stream pc games you probably wont need it unless u want to save recordings. if u have one monitor consider buying another monitor, for stream chat and other things
Console card:
Monitor for streaming"
Mic
Ring light infused webcam
Elgato stream deck
Motherboard
5800x cpu
it's possible with a add on card but the experience would be poor as you'd be connecting the PS4 to external hardware that then needs to go through software to output onto the laptop screen so there would probably be extreme input lag added into the system by it.
Not to mention that it would be notably expensive and you'd have to be running your laptop the whole time so extremely power inefficient.
I would just buy a small monitor or something along those lines for a better overall experience
If you were dead set on trying it on your laptop you would have to try something like this
https://www.amazon.com/Elgato-Game-Capture-HD60-PlayStation/dp/B01DRWCOGA
But again even if it says zero lag, I think it would add notable input lag if the laptop is the screen you use to game, also unclear if you could get it setup to output to laptop without having it plugged into another monitor as well
This is what I got you: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/snR8kX
Really hard to get a GPU right now as you know, and even harder to get one at a good price. Even used cards that came out 4-5 years ago are being sold for an absurd price. If you don't want to wait, you can probably get a 1060 6gb that will still be within your price range. Not the newest card but with the way prices are right now, it's what I suggest. If you wait (nobody knows until when exactly) and are quick enough you can probably get your hands on an RTX 3060 at MSRP.
As for streaming PS5, a capture card such as this one will do the job.
The easiest and simplest way is to use a camera and point it at your switch screen and stream it to YouTube or twitch or record it and upload it to YouTube. Just making sure it's easy to see what's going on on the screen. That's the easiest way.
Now for the higher quality way it requires getting an HD capture card and capturing directly from the switch to your computer, then using a program like OBS (Open Broadcaster Software) software that let's you capture and either stream or record it that you can ether stream live or that you can upload to YouTube.
https://www.speedrun.com/streaming_recording_equipment/thread/qlnmy
Speedrun. com actually has a little bit of info on setting things up. Although you don't have to make things look perfect as your just trying to record from your system so it doesn't have to be perfect.
This is what I use although I'm using is it's gone up in price since I got mine: https://www.amazon.com/Elgato-Game-Capture-HD60-PlayStation/dp/B01DRWCOGA
Also you can use a program like OBS to capture from your PC if you want to try running the original version of the game. That's basically the easiest and cheapest way to way to try speedrunning since that just requires an emulator a rom and a controller. (Switch pro controller can work on PC) but that only really let's you try speedrunning older games but still. I personally just look at speedrunning like playing a game efficiently on somethings. As you can still enjoy a game's story whileb going fast.
If you're interested we do actually have a small discord for the Macross, Robotech and Super dimension speedrunning community. It's really only like 4-5 of us but it's only been around for less then a year as far as the Robotech part goes and the macross side of things really doesn't have anyone running the games at present except for me at present.

@Steve132 is completely correct. It sounds like you're trying to use an output-only as an input.

To achieve HDMI input into a PC, you'll need what's called a "Capture Card". The brand name "Elgato" is a favorite amongst many YouTube and Twitch streamers. Search "Elgato Capture Card" on Amazon, or see here: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01DRWCOGA

Note that while Elgato is more expensive than its competitors, it beats them outright on simplicity of use regarding its software package. Many other capture cards will leave it up to the end-user to figure out how to make intricate video issues 'just work'.
Here’s what I use: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01DRWCOGA/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_8XZmFbYEBJBCY
Since you're playing on PS4 and streaming it through your PC you probably will not need a 144hz monitor unless you're also into PC gaming. My recommendation for a monitor is a normal 60hz monitor with a VA or IPS panel that also has a low response time. As long as your PC is strong enough, it shouldn't have any issues with streaming the video output of the capture card and your webcam/camera.
My recommendation for a capture card would probably be the popular Elgato HD60s. A lot of streamers use this one, including me, and I personally haven't had any issues using it.
If you want to be sure that your internet speed is strong enough, head to Speedtest.net and check if your Upload speed is at least 5 Mbps. Any lower than that and your stream will just look like a pixelated mess.
Also that part about a capture card being able to turn a 65hz monitor to 144hz, that is definitely not right so definitely skip over that advice.
https://www.amazon.com/Elgato-Game-Capture-HD60-PlayStation/dp/B01DRWCOGA?ref_=ast_sto_dp
I'd suggest building a PC instead of using a laptop though. And if you do that, then you could pick one of these instead:
1080p:
https://www.amazon.com/Elgato-Game-Capture-HD60-Pro/dp/B014MQIVPS?ref_=ast_sto_dp
4k:
https://www.amazon.com/Elgato-Game-Capture-4K60-MK-2/dp/B07VWXCXM7?ref_=ast_sto_dp
Multiple questions here.
Filming videos - yes, you do video on the camera and audio recorded on your phone. Use the old Hollywood sync trick by having the on-camera talent clap once the sound and camera are running, and then you can use that moment in post-production to sync the audio and video tracks together. Also, they make pocket audio recorders specifically for this purpose, so that may be something to look at in the future.
Streaming - this is more technically complicated. First, can the camera output a "clean" video feed? By that I mean, just the off-the-sensor video without showing you the time and shutter speed and f stop? One way to test is to use the mini-HDMI output on the camera and find a cable that will plug in to the regular HDMI port on the back of a TV. Turn on the camera and see what you get live on the TV.
If it passes that test, then you will need a video capture device like a MiraBox Capture Card or Elgato Game Capture HD60 S to do the live rendering of the video to send it out on the internet. Rather than do the audio through the phone, you will connect the audio to the computer's mic input.
Elgato Game Capture Card HD60 S - Stream and Record in 1080p60, for PlayStation 4, Xbox One & Xbox 360 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01DRWCOGA/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_nuRZEbV2Q095J

May need to look around, but that’s Amazon and BeatBuy.
Technical question. Now that I know I need a capture card, there is another issue. The Samsung NX1 uses H265 codecs. I see on the Amazon product page and on the Elgato capture card page there is a comparison chart of different models. They say Hardware Encoder H264 for some models. Is this what it uses from the Capture card to the computer or from the Camera to the Capture card? (Maybe this is the wrong question) Is the H265 codec from the camera compatible with the H264 codec used with the capture card?

Hey man! I'd recommend that you get an Elgato HD 60 S. Here is the link to it!
ah shit we thinking about the same thing! A sort of lame way of doing it would be to to align the capture feed window on the main screen then capturing and converting to grey scale etc within specified region of main screen.
Have you been working on this further? what pitfalls have you encountered? right now I'm looking at https://www.amazon.com/Elgato-Game-Capture-HD60-PlayStation/dp/B01DRWCOGA/ref=asc_df_B01DRWCOGA/?tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=309776868400&hvpos=1o1&hvnetw=g&hvrand=12556503668729448460&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9020758&hvtargid=pla-362861600548&psc=1
You'll need a capture card like the elgato HD60s: https://www.amazon.com/Elgato-Game-Capture-HD60-PlayStation/dp/B01DRWCOGA
You'll connect that to your PC over a USB 3.0 port like this:
Switch -> HDMI -> HD60s Input -> HD60s USB C output -> PC USB3.0 Input.
That will get the video feed from your console to your PC. After you have that working you'll want to connect an additional HDMI cable to the output of the HD60s and hook it up to a monitor to play the game on.
Probably, I'm not that familiar with capture cards. You might want to read through the reviews and Q&A on the Amazon pages for it and other cards.

I think the Elgato HD 60 S is currently the most popular capture card...
https://www.amazon.com/Elgato-Game-Capture-HD60-PlayStation/dp/B01DRWCOGA
With this Game Capture Card, you can connect your switch to your PC and record the screen of your switch. There are also alternatives, but Elgato is the best known of these Game Capture Cards.
You would need to route your PS4 to a computer by way of a capture device such as this Elgato HD60 if using a laptop or the Elgato HD60 Pro if using a desktop. Using a camera on the computer you would then integrate your image from that into your PS4 stream.

I know the post above has one at Best Buy for 10 bucks cheaper, but it's not available online. If you'd rather pay the 10 bucks to get it shipped to your house there ya go.
Yeah the HD60S or the HD60 Pro if you wanna put it in your PC. Or if you really wanna get fancy you can go with the 4K60 Pro for the 4K quality goodness!!

Although it does say that the regular HD60 can capture in 1080p60 as well. I have the HD60 Pro in my PC and have a PS4 Pro and it works fine
Noooo.... Don't just ignore my build.
Listen, first things first.
The 1700 is, in my opinion, a better value for performance than the 2700/X as it is $100 cheaper.
Second, the cooler may be adequate but if your spending 1000 or so on a PC your gonna need another solution as the 1700 and 2700 tend to get hot and why not go for liquid cooling for only 50 bucks right.
And now for the ram... Alright, alright, maybe a little overkill but you still need at least 32gb for streaming TRUST ME. The background processing will thank me later.
Here is an updated parts list. I will explain my changes in another comment below. I truly believe this is your best bet. I do want to say if you're not really committed to going with the last generation like 1700 i get it. I will put another list including a b450 Moab and a ryzen 7 2700 after this one.
Also, here is the link to a capture card. LINK
PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant
Personally, I would go with this one.
But also can you be more specific about what exactly it is you're trying to do?
You could use the elgato hd60 s. It has instant view so you can record and play on your computer. https://www.amazon.com/Elgato-Game-Capture-HD60-technology/dp/B01DRWCOGA
Most of us use Elgato Game Capture products like the HD 60S, HD 60, or HD 60 Pro, along with OBS Studio and a slew of other software and gear.
Elgato Game Capture HD60 S if its in your budget. It can stream in 1080p at 60FPS and its USB 3.0 so the delay is nearly nonexistent. If you're looking for something a little cheaper Elgato Game Capture HD. However there will be a slight delay from what you see on TV and your computer.
It requires another piece of hardware. I use an Elgato HD 60. It works well.
Best device for the job:
I use the HD60, but the HD60S is so much better for only like $5 more.
Yes, you can use the Elgato Game Capture HD60 S ($149.95 at Amazon, as of this post) to stream to Twitch.tv, YouTube, Ustream, Restream.io, Facebook and RTMP, but the setup process is fairly complicated.
Honestly given the switches limited memory/performance I don't see this feature ever coming.
If you're desperate you could always get one of these hdmi capture/passthrough devices.
Definitely agree with the recommendation on the Elgato but get the newer one the HD60S - https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01DRWCOGA
