I also found that CPAs generally have questionable knowledge about these things and want to charge a pretty hefty fee for this kind of work (which would be fine if I had any confidence in them), so I ended up just doing mine on my own and it wasn't as horrible as I thought it would be.
The hardest part was just knowing that certain things even exist and then understanding the nuances. These were the invaluable resources that I found on this:
https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B07N8GRBR1 (No clue what's up with the 1-star review. Seems like someone with a personal vendetta)
https://zajacgrp.com/insights/
https://equitysimplified.com/ -- The calculators are particularly great for understanding the impact of certain moves and I found it to be spot on with the numbers.
I used TurboTax's downloadable desktop software as it has direct access and editing for the forms so it was easier to double check and tweak things. It's missing some convenience features compared to the web version, but you can go through the web version to get most things in place and then download that and import into the desktop software to finish off.
I found this all to be a rewarding experience as now I better understand the implications of different moves I can make with my equity compensation.
