I bought blister pads on amazon that you stick directly into your shoe (so they're semi-permanent) and they reduce friction thereby preventing blisters. I had a pair of birkenstocks that were comfy except for the fact they rubbed my insole raw, and I put on a couple of these pads and it's been a miraculous improvement.
So if the shoes you end up getting still cause some blisters, I highly recommend the pads!
As for shoes, maybe it's a bit old lady-ish but I really like Naturalizer for comfy work-appropriate shoes. I just find them so much more comfortable than 'younger' brands in the same price range.

Yes, exactly the same spot. Luckily I detected the issue on a long run before race day. I put the blister pads on the first time for race day, they have stayed on since then with no issues. I too was a little concerned since I put it halfway on the sole and halfway on the side (upper material) to cover the trouble area. But it has stayed put ever since. Have worn them for 2 marathons and probably 4 long runs. No blisters or discomfort whatsoever. And plenty of sweaty wet shoes at the end of each run. You can tell when you put these pads in that they are very sticky and will probably not come off anytime soon, so be sure to get it right the first time.
Personally highly recommend these patches, whether for these or any future shoes.
Someone on this subreddit previously recommended these. I had been dealing with blisters, including one on the side of my bunion, as my weekly mileage increased. It had been getting so bad that I couldn’t even do 5 miles without re-blistering. But with these, I was super impressed to be pretty comfortable through an entire marathon, and when I checked my feet afterwards, I had only small blisters even having been on my feet that whole time. And as others have commented, I also wear wide shoes to avoid compressing my feet/toes!
These Engo blister prevention things are surprisingly helpful! I developed large blisters in 2 spots on my right foot after an unsuccessful shoe experiment, and then even 8-mile runs would cause them to blister-on-blister (including my first ever blood blister)! But someone on Reddit recommended these, so I applied them to my shoes while still using moleskin to allow my blisters to heal. Fast-forward to my marathon on Sunday when my blisters had healed to calluses so I ran without any moleskin, bandages, or anti-chafe balm - and I finished 26.2 miles with a small blister in 1 spot. It didn’t perfectly prevent a blister from forming but compared to before, I am pretty darn satisfied!

Might want to try tail toes too, or diaper rash cream just be careful it’s hard to wash off.
This happens to me too, but I run in various Saucony models. I do the special lacing and make sure to untie before I take them off, and that still doesn’t help. I’m going to try blister prevention patches on my current shoes, but when I need new shoes again I’m going to try a smaller size.
I have a similar problem that is mainly because I have very low arches (almost flat footed). This makes the shoe rub on the foot around that spot. All my running socks end up with holes in them around that spot.
What helped for me: special running sock, with slick fabric to reduce friction. On some of the worst offending shoes, I put a special low friction sticker. Maybe get wider shoes and/or shoes with a less pronounced arch support.
Engo patches are the bomb! Disclaimer: they may be masking a more serious problem (e.g., form, bad shoes, ramping up to quick) but if it's just that one spot, might be worth a try...good luck!
If your shoes are properly fitted and new socks don't help, you might want to try ENGO patches. One of my three pairs of shoes make my feet extra sweaty and I swear by these
If you're worried about switching shoes, try ENGO patches. Not sure what the ins/outs of stride changes are - so I can't speak to that. But I bought a pack and they were life changing if you're blistering.
These ENGO blister prevention patches are a lifesaver. I am seriously surprised that more people on /r/running don't know about them. I had the same problem with blisters after my long runs totally destroying my feet, and everyone on here suggested different socks or new shoes. Not that those aren't good suggestions, but after a couple pairs of shoes and trying all the best socks, nothing was working. These things are really, really great. They also make different shaped ones for your heels.
The blisters are being caused by friction. If two socks don't work for you, try these stickers designed to be put inside the shoe where the blisters occur. They're basically really slippery so there won't be friction against your skin causing blisters: http://www.amazon.com/Blister-Prevention-Patches-Runners-Athletes/dp/B003URZNW0

I used to get blisters on my heels every single time I went hiking. I haven't gotten a blister there since. They're just stickers that you put in the inside of your shoe at the affected area. The sticker is slippery, so there's no friction on the skin, and no blister. And they have a money back guarantee. This is the only thing that ever worked for me and it was a perfect solution. (I'm also a sweaty beast)
Get these "blister prevention" stickers, they go on the shoe and stop any friction between the shoe and your foot http://www.amazon.com/Blister-Prevention-Patches-Variety-Count/dp/B003URZNW0/ref=sr_1_3?s=hpc&ie=UTF8&qid=1438661111&sr=1-3&keywords=shoe+blister+protection
>Look for Engo patches - similar but much better than duck tape or (shudder) gorilla tape. > >Sticks to the lining your shoe. > >Your local shoe repair/cobbler might have some, too.

Engo pads work well for this issue.
My boyfriend has a hammer toe pinky and he puts these on his shoe where it rubs and it prevents the holes
ENGO patches are amazing
