It's a cheap "ErGear" gas strut one off of Amazon. Link is below. It's pretty sturdy and has worked well for me. My version does have some primary components made of plastic. They seem plenty strong enough to get the job done, but it seams they are prone to sag just a little over time, so I've had to tweak my monitor position just a touch to compensate occasionally.

From their current product images, it appears they have updated it and eliminated some or all of the core plastic components.

The mount only takes a small spot of the desk. You would still have majority of the desk space. As you said wall mount would be tricky with the desk being moved and monitors position might not be ideal when sitting or standing unless you get adjustable wall mounted arms.

I have two inexpensive dual gas arm mounts from Amazon. One desk is clamped the other is drilled and bolted through desktop. I'd suggest using the clamp on your desktop. They have many to choose from. Also wide range of prices.

I stacked my two 27" monitors vertically for the same reason. Secondary monitor is on top - works well for now. Wall-mounting my speakers wasn't ideal due to my sit/stand desk.

yeah that's something I'm picky about. I spend way too much time trying to align them every time I move them. The mounts aren't amazing but they are pretty good at staying put after being moved.

I have it side by side. you'll have to buy the dual stand one if you want to stack it as the pole for single mount is short. I went with 2 single pole mounts for flexibility. It allows me to use 1 pole and also separate it back to two single mounts if I wanted it.
