I'm not that bothered by the cold unless I'm doing something particularly intensive (summer is much worse for me because of the humidity where I'm at), but I like this balaclava to help keep my face warm. A thermos of coffee or tea when I'm out also helps a lot - it both keeps me warm and keeps my airways open.
I have this balaclava and I was really impressed with it's ability to keep my nose and mouth (and the air going in) warm without making me feel like I was suffocating. As an added bonus, it doesn't steam up my glasses, either.
I dont recall exactly, but most likely on Amazon. I actually have 2 of them on in that picture, with the outer one being fleece, and I only break that out for the extreme cold. It's a funny balance, I need to stay warm but I also need to make sure I dont sweat.
Edit to add:
Ergodyne N-Ferno 6823 Winter Balaclava Ski Mask, Wind-Resistant Face Mask, Thermal Fleece, Black https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0091CC1OG/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_FFmvCbQQH8SDS
That's the mask I usually use, it keeps me covered without making me too hot while being active. I couldn't find the fleece one in my history so maybe it didn't come from Amazon.
Balaclava: N-Ferno. Bought one of these last year and will never go out in freezing weather without one again.
I bought one of these for when I was running in MN. It worked alright, as long as I had the mesh lined up. Plus if I got tired of it or too hot I could just pull it down around my neck.
Welcome to my world and im happy with it! :D I dont mind it, well maybe the legs when I go work, top is all fine.
Is enough for most days.
Get a cheap balaclava from Amazon. These things are awesome for below freezing high wind environments.
I run in the frigid north:
Leggings - I usually watch sales on Amazon for Champion (cheap and durable enough since I can't wash daily and they get bad...) these have been good to me When it's really cold I'll pull on Soccer style puma or adidas pants (tapered ankle, thicker than other brands). I don't need to every day, but they're much warmer than leggings alone, especially when the wind picks up and my bird retreats.
Socks - most of my socks are smart wool
Shirts - long sleeve compression, usually a second shirt (not compression) over it if it's really cold
Jacket - the cold isn't bad once you're going, it's the wind that is killer. I don't like stripping mid-run so I try to warm up a bit before leaving and then just go in what I think will be comfortable mid-way I have the discontinued version of this
Get a balaclava. Seriously. You're going to need one, I grabbed a couple of this one I got a couple because runny nose, sweat, and shit the interior gets pretty gross and I really can't do laundry as often as I'd need to
If you find great gloves let me know, I hate the 12 pairs I've tried...
Keeps you warm during the day and at night when you sleep. Traps the body heat in your head and shoulders. Can't get through a winter without one.
