Something like this to bring the monitor height up to a reasonable level. Use a USB keyboard (that way you can get something mechanical that feels nicer than the laptop keyboard, too.
Cant help you with school, but I bought a thing to raise my laptop while I'm working (link). You also have to buy a wireless mouse and keyboard for this setup but it's improved my posture a lot.

Before getting my laptop arm I just used a notebook of mine to lift the back of the laptop up so that it has better airflow. This was more than enough especially if you don’t have a keyboard and use the laptop keyboard instead. However if you do have a keyboard and you want to raise the laptop up there are ones you can get for under $30 on amazon like this one

I have a laptop stand like this that I use when I'm using my keyboard. I do have an external monitor but I actually still use my Macbook as my primary display as my external's just a reasonable but not great 21" 1080p screen that doesn't hold a candle to the phenomenal screen on my 16" MBP.

I have a mechanical keyboard that I find much more satisfying to type on than a laptop keyboard(although the 16's keyboard is more than satisfactory). Also having the laptop up on the stand is a lot easier on my neck.

It’s perfectly fine. I needed something fast so I just got one that was in stock on Amazon, but I’ve seen some other nice ones from brands like Twelve South. I do wish it were a bit taller so that my laptop screen aligned with the midpoint of my monitor.

I would do the following to be sure your laptop will last you several years:
- Download software to monitor the temp of you CPU and GPU, personally I use MSI Afterburner
- If your CPU temps are higher than 85C, consider undervolting using this guide
- If your laptop is hooked up to an external monitor, get a laptop stand like this to increase airflow
- Every 6 months or so, remove the bottom panel of the laptop, and use compressed air to clear out dust from the internal components
Aside from that, I would also recommend replacing your slow 1TB HDD with a 2.5" SSD. I own a Y740 myself, and I replaced the HDD with this following this guide

Avoid the Soundance laptop stand you mentioned - it's not quite deep enough to fit a Legion laptop without some modification.
I had one and switched to this model instead and have been happy with it.

If you're intending to use an external keyboard, I would get something like this. Your screen obviously isn't huge, so moving it closer helps make it feel bigger and more usable.
If I wasn't using an external keyboard, i'd get a cooling pad, which also helps raise the screen, and helps it sit at a better height (as well as being nice and close because i'm using the integrated keyboard). I linked the cooling pad I use and am quite happy with.

I put the dock underneath a laptop stand. Connection makes a nice little curve straight from the dock to the laptop.

The trick is to have the bottom and rear open so that the dock sits flat under the stand, the left side is open for the tb3 cable, and you have room for all the connections out the back.
