Can’t extend the desk unfortunately. No room. Has to go above. I was looking at the ergotron lx with the 23 inch pole as an option. I just think there probably is a lesser known cheaper alternative.
Ergotron – LX Vertical Stacking Dual Monitor Arm, VESA Desk Mount – for 2 Monitors Up to 40 Inches, 7 to 22 lbs Each – Tall Pole, White https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07517VHG4/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_Z4XQDDG90R2PNMBDCB9W?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
So this is a best solution from Ergotron, it is dam expensive now, hell it was expensive a year or so ago at around 250-300 but now jezus, stil if you want full adjustability this will be the best:
It is not. It’s a Vesa mount

But honestly, i am thinking that maybe i will get rid of the upper monitor, because i don't use it much...
I haven't used that particular mount, but I do have my monitors in a stacked configuration. Currently, I have dual 27" monitors mounted to an Ergotron LX, but I've also used a VIVO gas spring mount in the past.
What questions did you have?

For the stacked monitors I am using the Ergotron LX Dual Tall Pole 45-509-216

The other one is an Ergotron LX Monitor Mount 45-241-224

there is a tall pole option
If you plan on stacking the monitors vertically, you'll need a dual mount. Otherwise, I'd probably just go with two single ones. It's a little bit more clutter, but you get gain some flexibility in placement.
Ergotron makes some really nice mounts (I'm currently using the Ergotron LX dual monitor arm), but they are expensive. If you plan on moving the monitor a lot, have something towards the upper end of the weight range, or just want something quality, that's probably the way to go. The Amazon Basics monitor arm is supposedly a direct clone, but I've never used one.
In more of the mid range, you'll find some gas spring mounts from brands like VIVO or HUANUO. Generally speaking, they're pretty good and a lot cheaper, but the tolerances, finish, and range of motion will be slightly worse.
Ergotron LX Dual Stacking Arm 45-509-216. I think Ergotron makes some of the best arms on the market. Although they usually come with a steep price. I've had this monitor arm hold (2) 38" + (1) 27 Monitor without a problem.

I cant get the stacking part to fit but it works great for side by side
This would do the job no problem. But it's not cheap.
