Give them a “how to study” or “how to write” book and go over the main points during syllabus day.
I get a lot of “how do I study for the test” questions. Eventually I just added this book to my required book list:
Essential Study Skills: The Complete Guide to Success at University (Student Success) https://www.amazon.com/dp/1473919029/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_2TJYBX2D1RPPY2BAXVJA
On syllabus day I go over it for about 20 minutes. On the section about texting and writing, I add optional readings from the book related to study management. I’ve never read the book in depth so that’s not necessary. Just skimming the book and adding readings from the table of contents was enough
Its fairly easy to find a free pdf but I tell students to just buy it and use it for other courses. Anyway, this is a great thing to put on the syllabus that slightly decreases the test anxiety emails.
