I was going to make one so I could remotely reboot my router if my network went down.
Then I realized that I am not a clever man.
EDIT: While I appreciate your suggestions, I already solved my problem.
I bought these from amazon
Comes with remote, and I have the "boxes" attached to them, and the headset too. Just hit the buttons, and on, or off, they go. Have been using them since April with absolutely no problems whatsoever.
I went on Amazon and bought a very cheap “smart outlet” that I can turn on and off with a button. I plugged the power chord for my reverb G2 into that and I just click it off until I’m ready to use it and click it on when I’m ready for VR. It keeps me from having to unplug/replug anything and has been an easy workaround for that annoying issue.
These are what I use
Yes, sorry, I meant a wireless remote switch. Not nearly as elegant of a solution, but the pros and cons must be weighed. For example, I have BX wiring with fabric-jacketed copper wires, and the stuff is old and anytime you even look at the jacketing wrong, it falls off the wire (leaving exposed wires). I'm not sure I would attempt it on my own house, and I'm a pretty avid DIYer (I added a master bathroom to my house, including running all new electrical and plumbing). So in our living room there's a light on a ceiling fan we have to activate by pull switch, and another lamp in the corner that we either manually turn on and off, or use a wireless switch like this (we usually use this during Christmas time when we control other indoor Christmas lights with it).
Those fans are pretty great. There are other fans that will boast bigger CFM numbers but these are great at blowing all of the air right on your body and not just making your workout room 'breezy'.
I bought some remote control outlets off amazon so I don't adjust the fan's setting but I can turn one or both of my fans on and off from the remote.
These are the ones that I got: [link]
Sure. Just plug some floor lamps into remote control outlets. You can sticky the remotes by the door. Not the most elegant solution in the world but they work fine. Pretty cheap on Amazon.
I use something like this [link]
one for each base station and one for box unless you can get them plugged in same area w/ power strip.
Not sure why your controllers don't turn off automatically though.
This doesn't connect to your network at all, it just uses a traditional RF remote to control the wall dongle. It's theoretically 'hackable' by someone within range, but what's the worst they're going to do, turn your light on and off until you unplug it?
You can get plugs and control your lights with a remote from anywhere in your house.
Get a outlet remote to make things easy. I have my lighthouses and headset hooked to these.
I realized mine was staying warm when I first got it, also the bluetooth didn't turn off my lighthouses sometimes in one of the early software versions. So I got a remote hooked to all three and can turn them off and on super easy now.
I got some remote outlets for this. They plug in, come in a 3 pack and has a little remote I keep on my desk. Works great for headset, and two lighthouses. I don't have to worry about them being on and I dont have to plug them in when I want to play. [link]
they're still kind of noisy on standby anyway, so I've gone for an external solution instead. These remote controlled outlets are a god send.
Yeah, I've personally never counted on the auto-standby stuff working as people were always complaining on /r/vive so I unplug the lighthouses and headset power.
I did get this [link]
But one of the receivers died in a week so returned it and never bought more.
I may give it another shot as either last week's or the week before's SteamVR beta seemed to fix the standby stuff for some. Who knows it may work right for you now that you've ditched the HTC software.
I bought these wireless, remote controlled switches so I can switch the base stations off and on with the remote (and because the buttons are re-assignable I only need a single on-off-pair). Works perfectly fine for me and a lot faster and reliable than the bluetooth standby mode.
I would just get something like this.
Or a new router.
Yep same here - one of those high-velocity fans you get from the hardware store and a couple more typical fan-on-a-stand like you might find at target. Both controlled with convenient little remote-control outlets so I can turn them on or off as I ramp up efforts.
Instead of fixing the switched outlets, you may just want to purchase a set of these. For only $20, you can postpone the major detective work for another time.
You won't find much if anything that doesn't use wifi or a hub. If you can tolerate a remote, then get https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B00DQ2KGNK/ref=emc_b_5_i
It would be simpler to add a remote power switch.
While I have smart plugs for other things I went with this: Amazon Link
Wireless Christmas tree controls
I always keep mine powered off when not using them. I bought and use this per a recommended accessory thread for the Vive:
I turn them off. I use these
Wireless outlet switch remote.
I got those, they work great, basically the same thing you're doing.
Besides price is there any advantage over a wireless remote like this?
Ditto, this is what I got.
It sounds like you need an alarm clock and a clapper. No reason to have an internet-connected device for 99% of that. Also what do you mean by "keep wiping my hands to touch the phone."
