Buy a bug net for your head. Get some permethrin (and test it on your clothes - can melt some synthetics) https://www.cdc.gov/mosquitoes/mosquito-bites/how-to-use-permethrin.html
Get a boundary waters book - maybe this one - https://www.amazon.com/Exploring-Boundary-Waters-Planner-Guide/dp/0816642168
Might do some extra pushups - the canoe is not going to carry itself on portages.
Check around to see if anyone has any Quetico Trekker boots you could borrow - http://canoeing.com/product/chota-quetico-trekker/ - (Quetico is the name of the park on the Candian side) These boots have different grip for the slick granite rocks, and let water in & out easily. If you have traditional hiking boots, they will work, but you may have a better time in boots designed for the area.
