I used that technique, except with more than 2 colors per row. There isn't any turning, so there is an obvious wrong side to the finished blanket. I started each row with all the colors I needed for that row, but I made sure to leave enough yarn when starting and ending each row for the fringe/tassels.
The work is through only the back loops of a single (US) crochet.
It's a lot of fun, but the only downside is that the yarns get twisted up with each other, so I needed to unravel them once in a while!
Trust me, If you can do a single crochet stitch, you can do this!! ��
