The extra pair of joycons is legit. At risk of sounding a bit hailcorporate, I got an extra set of joycons and a set of these: [link] . They made the controllers about the size of PS2 controllers and they fit much better in the hands.
You want these. They're simple to use (none of my friends can handle putting the straps on the right way), very comfortable (larger hands have something to grip), and most importantly, make the sl and sr buttons extremely easy to press.
Note that they've had a revision at some point that makes the shoulder buttons so good. If you get a version of them with flat shoulder buttons instead of curved send em back.
These switch joycon grips have been a real treat to use. The joycons are such a nightmare to hold sideways for Smash, and with 4 of these you can actually have 4 people play and use the controllers without cramping up.
Hey it says your post was removed (probably because of the question thread) but I can still see it so I’ll go ahead and answer.
Honestly I’d recommend getting one more set of Switch Joy Con (for a total of 2 Left Joy Con and 2 Right Joy Con). The reason for this is that way two people can play with full controllers (say for Minecraft or a shooter) but then four people could all play a simpler-to-control game like Mario Kart.
I’d also recommend an SD card like the other commenter said, as well as some single-Joy-Con-grips like these (which I own and can vouch for) to make three or four player with single Joy Con more fun.
If you need any game recommendations, Mario Kart is great fun, and if you or your kids are itching for a shooter then I highly recommend Resident Evil Redemption 2 for the co-op.
And of course since you mentioned it, Minecraft is on Switch and has splitscreen. I play it all the time!
Does anyone know where I can buy this but for the whole switch rather than just the joy cons?
Same. We bought these (link below). Best purchase ever for the Switch with how much my wife and I play Mario Kart.
It's still a lot of fun with a half joycon.
Get these. They'll make a world of difference for comfort.
That's a shame! I think they're okay as-is in small bursts with just the wrist strap attachment, but in Herculean hands they can be a bit too small.
Have you tried any of those cases like this one?
Hey all. Was lucky enough to nab one on Amazon this morning. Thinking of grabbing MarioKart 8 to play with the roomies. Anyone have any recommendations for controller improvements like these
Lol same. I have a bunch of these I’m going to use though:
The grips do honestly make it usable
These are very popular:
The joycons are amazing. Playing with them as 1 controller but separated is the best controller i've ever used. I refuse to use them as 2 separate controllers because they are way too small but this grip does wonders! https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06XZ1PCKK?aaxitk=aUsd5no5a1tkiRuli8-AAA&pd_rd_i=B06XZ1PCKK&pf_rd_p=3ff6092e-8451-438b-8278-7e94064b4d42&hsa_cr_id=5048977080801&sb-ci-n=productDescription&sb-ci-v=FASTSNAIL%20Grips%20for%20Nintendo%20Switch%20Joy-Con%2C%20Wear-resistant%20Handle%20Kit%20for%20Switch%20Joy%20Cons%20Controller%2C%202%20Pack%20(Black)
I bought these for just that occasion
FASTSNAIL Grips [link]
Works like a charm, comfortable and made of a good material

The individual joycons feel MUCH better if you buy some grips to put them in. You can find a good pair for $15 - $20 on amazon. I recommend these ones made by FastSnail:
Obviously, the joy cons are still small and won't be as comfortable as larger "real" controllers, but with some grips, they work perfectly fine for a quick hour or two of couch co-op gaming.
A Joycon Controller grip may be worthwhile for mario cart
Can confirm this works. Set it up for my wife and her siblings over New Years visiting.
I also recommend getting a pair of these to help with the single joycon: [link]
They are alright with the wrist straps on. this makes them more comfortable.
These, which I also have. It's great for Mario Kart.
Get these they are awesome for helping it feel more comfortable
FastSnail Joy-Con Grips for Nintendo Switch, Wear-resistant Joy-con Handle for Nintendo Switch, 2 Pack (Black) [link]
I'm thinking of these ones [link]
Would something like [link] be appropriate? I've never come across any others outside of 3D printed ones.
Oh and also you could look at these grips: [link]
My wife and I love Mario Kart, but the joycons are way to small for our hands to share a pair of joycons together. I bought a pair of these(and just bought a second pair last week for Mario Party), and these are amazing.
They changed the material of the grips to pseudo leather instead of just glossy plastic that they had before. Highly recommend them if you're looking at doing single joycon racing/playing!
Ok, I think I'm done recommending Switch accessories haha. Best of luck to you!
