Finding Jesus in the Storm: The Spiritual Lives of Christians with Mental Health Challenges.
Not only is John Swinton the Chair in Divinity at the University of Aberdeen, he spent more than 10 years working as a mental health nurse. Although he acknowledges the value of psychiatric research, he also sees the experience of people struggling with these issues as being quite a bit more complex than medical professionals take into account. His book, in fact, is based on many interviews with Christians struggling with severe mental health issues in order to understand what it is like to walk with Jesus in these circumstances.
Here's an interview he did about the book to give you a taste.
