Put this on everything! It took me 4 burns to learn this lesson, this will also serve as a preventative. Don’t pull your zippers hard when they’re sticking- it’ll break them and you’ll wear out your tents prematurely. Just add this generously to zippers and bike parts and you’ll be 💯

I like dry lubricants, like that, to help avoid attracting dust to moving parts.
This is one that I like, Finish Line, for anything that needs lubrication, without attracting grit, etc. I use it on much more than just bikes. It goes on as a liquid, then dries and leaves a Teflon film. There's also a spray can version.
It prevents rust and extends the life of your chain. Apply after washing and drying your bike. Dry lube doesn't attract dust, and tends to stay on better when it's muddy.
Im looking into products for chain maintenance.
Could i get some suggestions? Looking for lube, cleaner, cleaning tool, etc. Basically the whole package.
I live in the bay area of California. Its dry most of the year, currently having some rain here and there, but I tend not to ride when its wet.
So far i've settled on this lube: Finish Line DRY Teflon Bicycle Chain Lube
It should come oiled. You'll want some dry Teflon lube for later. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B002IDZXRM/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_fabc_.ENTFbG1R6S0E

1- I only ride pavement but I commute by bike so I was riding every day around 10 miles. Basically I cleaned and oiled every time the chain made noise (wasn't silent) and that happened to be every week or every 2 weeks for me. This may have to do with the oil I'm using as well as I'm using this: https://www.amazon.com/Finish-Line-Bicycle-Chain-Teflon/dp/B002IDZXRM/ref=mp_s_a_1_4?crid=1QBCEA96CML1N&keywords=bike+chain+oil&qid=1644510529&sprefix=bike+chain+oil%2Caps%2C134&sr=8-4.
On rainy weeks the chain gets noisy after just 1-2 days of riding but I didn't want to clean mid week (there's better oils for rain). You don't have to worry about any of this with belts as they run just fine bone dry.
2- To clean tooth brush and dish soap, to oil I do this: https://youtu.be/ubKCHtZ20-0
No need for gloves but your hands will get a bit dirty.
3- Finish line oil linked above.
4- You have to measure it, this you'll need to look up on YouTube as I haven't gotten to that point yet with my derailer bike (switched to belt before it happened).
5- Pedaling hard, even at a moderate pace. You have to very lightly touch the pedals (damn near stop pedaling) to shift smoothly. Although like anything it's on a spectrum so if you pedal at a moderate pace you'll induce less wear than a hard pace and so on.
It's good that your LBS maintain it, I guess it also depends on your use case. Mine is commuting so I needed my bike to be hassle free as much as possible and reliability was #1 for me (even at a speed sacrifice)
I used dry lube for a bicycle chain. Fixed all my issues. https://www.amazon.com/Finish-Line-Bicycle-Chain-Teflon/dp/B002IDZXRM/ref=sr\_1\_8?dchild=1&keywords=dry+lube&qid=1631286602&sr=8-8
you'll want to get the chain real clean before putting it on. this is what I have used before https://www.amazon.com/Finish-Line-Bicycle-Chain-Teflon/dp/B002IDZXRM/ref=sr_1_1?crid=2V0FHSVPRRSDB&dchild=1&keywords=teflon+chain+lube&qid=1631151137&sprefix=teflon+chain%2Caps%2C167&sr=8-1
I have chain lube (this one: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B002IDZXRM/ref=cm_sw_em_r_mt_dp_SvraGb6MDZX0M) which I assume should be ok based on your description.
Thanks for bearing with a clueless noob!

Hey sorry for the very late reply /u/gbchk! I have been really busy with a lot of stuff these last 2 weeks, and hence haven't gotten the chance to properly reply to you.
With regards to a good dry lube, I mentioned in my build log that a Dry PTFE lube should be good for the ALPS switch. I personally used the WD-40 PTFE lube, though any other Dry PTFE lube should work as well. As you can see from the build log, I referenced a youtube comment that mentioned another dry lube that you might be able to try, the Finish Line dry film PTFE lube: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002IDZXRM/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s03?ie=UTF8&psc=1.
Also, I have updated my main comment with the link to the album which showcases how I lubed my ALPS. Hopefully this will serve you well as a guide.
Sorry again for the late reply, and have fun with whatever project you may have now!
Techkeys just restocked the thick lube. I just used this stuff to do a bunch of MX Clears. It made them buttery smooth without losing any of the bump.
I've heard that this dry teflon lubricant is supposed to work well. Finish Line DRY Teflon Bicycle Chain Lube, 4-Ounce Drip Squeeze Bottle https://www.amazon.com/dp/B002IDZXRM/
That's actually easy to get, i mean the stuff like this.
A lot will depend on where you live and the conditions you ride in. I like wax based lubes for dry and dusty conditions (summer), something like Finish line Dry or White Lightning. In the wet/cold/snowy/gross (winter), I switch over to a wet lube like Finish Line Wet. Sometimes I use the Prolink Gold is it's okay too.
But more important than the specific brand/type is keeping your chain clean and lubed on a regular basis. I'm not as fastidious as some about this, but it'll make your drivetrain last a lot longer.
I use this for my bicycle. Still Teflon based.
