I was a combined IT/Business major, so the business classes were helpful, however, the most helpful was a class on effective presentations.
One of our somewhat crazy assignments each week, was to follow a book about a Colorado forest fire Fire on the Mountain, and act as the spokesperson each day, presenting what we knew at the time.. Ie, we would do a presentation on how big the fire was, what we knew about the search for missing crews, etc, at the end of each books day, without any info from later chapters.
That has really helped me be able to logically present issues to management, while they are going on, and I don't yet have them solved. The later presentations were very much like an incident report.. and the book was facinating.. (this incident really changed forest service policy on fighting fires, changed the way radio communication works, etc, for fighting fires, and two of our college's students were killed in it, they were fighting the fires in the summer for college money.)
I haven't read these myself, but my firefighter friend recommended them & I've put them on my short list.
