I always figured it would cost more to recharge (at at least be somewhat inconvenient). I just end up paying $20 for a new one every few years when the pressure drops on my extinguisher.

Fire extinguisher, and put the fire out. 2 minutes is a long time. If I've got that much time to get out, the fire isn't large and I can put it out myself.

Get yourself a First Alert fire extinguisher. They're fairly cheap, and work on every type of fire you're likely to find in a home. In fact, get several.

Just remember, don't leave your fire extinguisher sitting around. Inspect it every month or so.

Look for the following:

• That it is fully charged.
• That the safety pin isn't difficult to remove.
• That the nozzle isn't clogged.
• If you have an extinguisher with a hose, make sure the hose is still flexible & isn't cracked.
• Give it a good shake to make sure everything isn't settled.

And remember 2 important facts about extinguishers:

1. An extinguisher that has previously been used is a dead extinguisher. Get it recharged even if it still shows pressure. Contact your local fire department; they can either recharge it for you, or refer you to someone who can.
2. Your fire extinguisher needs to be replaced every 12 years.

the kidde kitchen extinguisher on amazon says that they're bad because of the plastic on them. It's full of 1 star reviews. Btw I have to order on amazon, can't go to the store for a while.
