Yes! My husband will come get me in between work meetings and be like “I wanna show you this X I just built” or “look at my new car in GTA” lol it’s so cute when he puts time and detail into his gameplay that has subtle nods to our real life interests.
The biggest win for me is when he recognized that we have our own play styles and instead of criticizing like many guys I’ve played with, he will randomly make suggestions that support my play style after his own play throughs instead of trying to get me to play the way he did, etc.
Obvi the baby has changed some of our timing with the channels between buying equipment for our setups and when we can settle in for comfy gaming sessions lol but 100%. I will let you know and I will do a megathread post to promote when it’s ready.
I’m gonna look into Genshin Impact - always looking to break out of my go-to games.

We were gifted it for Christmas but it’s available on Amazon and I believe from Target as well. Definitely worth a buy, our son loves it! Keeps him from trying to grab ours LOL

But yeah, I would totally send them an age appropriate “video game” or “gaming item”. The absolute guts of some people to ask a practical stranger for a Switch for your 3 year old. Could you imagine the entitled anger if their kid got an electric gadget that they wouldn’t be able to use for themselves?!
Bonus points if you get the kid a toy that makes a ton of obnoxious sounds. Kids love it! Parents.. not so much.

My wife and I are both gamers so it definitely is something we both value and something we do together and as a family.
When they are really young.. You do that with them sleeping on your chest.. It is the best.. I played most of 2018 God of War with my 3 month old son on my chest.
About 1 year (for christmas) we got our son the fisher price controller. https://www.amazon.com/Fisher-Price-Laugh-Learn-Game-Controller/dp/B079JL2FSY He could play with that while we played elsewhere.
When they are a little older you can do the give them a controller and let them play with you. However this never really worked because my son quickly detected that the controllers weren't the same or the controller I was using had lights on and the one he did didn't have lights on.
At about 2 we started to let him play games on the Switch. Mario Kart 8 is really great because he can "play" while the assists are actually playing for him. By 3 he was doing really well on other games like Mario Odyssey.
In 2020 at almost 3 he helped my wife and I upgrade our PCs. He was super excited to help us fix the computers. He didn't understand what it meant but it was cute he wanted to help.
Now at 4 he was sad because he had a chair and a desk but no computer of his own. He wanted a to play computer games with me on his own desk. So I said.. "Yeah! Let's have a LAN party!" I got the office all cleaned up and a desk cleaned up and setup an older gaming laptop up with an older lighting keyboard and mouse I had. We got a bunch of snack and stuff. We then searched Game Pass for friendly games for him. Found a paw patrol game which he loved the hell out of. I setup an Epic Games Store account for him so I can start claiming free games for him. Recently a free one was called Riverbond and it is a diablo like game that we can play together or he can play on his own.
Recently we also started playing Diablo 3 all together on the PS5 because we all can play together but we are running into the fact that he is 4.5 and he really like to just change the cosmetics on his character rather than slay demons and enjoy the story.
Anyway we are now going to get him a proper PC. We started to get him to do his chores giving him coins to "save up" for his computer.. It isn't so much about a dollar limit but filling up the jar.. We are going to just get him a Ryzen 5 G series CPU and he can add a graphics card later once he starts playing games that have a little more graphics demand. We already have the peripherals. Anyway I am excited. I hope he is excited.
