It’s safer to buy small tanks that are designed to be refilled.

You can technically refill them, but they weren't designed for this and for example don't have a bleeder valve to let you know when they are full.
It's also technically illegal to transport them once refilled.
Disposable 1lb cans are NOT supposed to be refilled. Doing so is incredibly dangerous. There are special ones that can be.
There is a company that sell refillable ones. You need to buy the canister and the valve to fill it from a 20 lb (grill) tank.

That's cheaper than I remembered. Too bad I didn't come across that a long time ago. That can be worth it for an overnighter. If you'll be staying out longer, you should look into a bigger tank. A 20lb tank may be overkill, so here's a 5 pound tank, and a 10 pound tank. There's even lightweight composite 17 pound tanks, and other sizes are available directly from the manufacturer.
Do you have a fan? On my last trip I had tons of condensation with the Mr Heater. Like my tent was dripping on me. It was even dripping through my mesh onto my sleeping bag. Next time I'm bringing a fan.
