Flex bit placement tool.

This is used to steer the many feet long (usually 4-6ft) flexible fish drill bit you use to run wires inside walls. You reach the tool and the drill bit in through the rectangular hole you cut in the wall for an outlet box and then you run CAT 5/5E/6... for ethernet, RG-59/RG-6 for cable/tv antenna, 50ohm coax for two way radios, telephone wiring (obsolete), camera wiring, or good old fashioned 110/220V. The tool orients the bit straight up and down (or sometimes horizontally) inside the wall while you drill. The drill bit itself comes out the hole at a diagonal. The tip of the drill bit has a hole in it that you use to pull wires or string back through. Usually you drill down into the basement (which hopefully has exposed joists or a drop ceiling with removable tiles) or up into the attic (which hopefully has exposed joists where you need to run the wire but does have floorboards where you need to crawl).

Of course, if you call a cable TV installer, they probably won't use one of these, they will drill holes in the side of your house for each room or drill up through your hardwood floor.

It isn't very hard to do. You need to be careful to avoid existing wiring/plumbing when drilling.

54" flexible drill. The tip has a woodscrew thread that pulls the drill into the stud. Cut an opening for an old-work style box between two studs, and this will let you drill through three studs in either direction to get to the next box.

Plan for an outlet every 64" along the walls, and you only have to repair drywall if you have to go around a corner. And a lot of the time, you can get creative and avoid that as well.
