For reading out loud to a group, it would probably be better to get picture books rather than comic books because it'll be hard for the kids to see who's talking, and there isn't much narration/explanation of what's going on. Comics work better for reading to a kid one-on-one because they can see each frame as you read it. You could still get comics because the kids would probably enjoy looking through the comics even if they can't read, and they can fill in the action with their imagination.
I work with 4-5 year olds at a camp, and they really enjoyed this picture book. And it looks like it's part of a line of picture books if you're looking for more.
