Rock band keytar I believe. $30 or less.
You could get his Akai running with about a $65 extra investment in a raspberry pi and a cable like this.
Edit: any old keyboard with midi out would be a cheap solution as well
Yes you can use something like that and ignore the output connector. Midi out on the keyboard will connect to the midi in connector on the adapter. https://www.amazon.com/FORE-Interface-Converter-Adapter-Laptop/dp/B0719V8MX1/ref=mp_s_a_1_13?dchild=1&keywords=usb+c+midi+cable&qid=1605714471&sprefix=usb+c+midi&sr=8-13
Another probably better option would be to get a class compliant usb c audio interface that also has midi in/out. This way he can interface with the keyboard and also have dedicated outputs for speakers, headphones etc. I previously had a Behringer umc404hd quick worked great, but I know there are a lot of options.
I was using LP for a bit, but never in the field live. I still dont trust it enough. I practice with it often though. maybe one day it will make it into my sets. I use a morningstar MC8 and it works pretty well. The USB to Midi converter from Amazon is what I plugged into the midi chain and then into the USB hub connected to my ipad. here is the link for that cable - https://www.amazon.com/FORE-Interface-Converter-Adapter-Laptop/dp/B0719V8MX1/ref=sr\_1\_6?crid=XHPLC7FHIKI6&keywords=midi+to+usb&qid=1663700498&sprefix=midi+to+usb%2Caps%2C123&sr=8-6

If it has midi inputs and outputs this will work, no audio interface required! Currently using it with my Casio keyboard from the 90s on my MacBook Pro 2021, works great!
Yeah the 2i2 only has audio, would have to step up to the 4i4 to get midi. Should have got the 4i4 when I started down the DAW path but I was cheap and not sure about all the ins-outs.
Wonder if one of these would work?
If you want your computer to drive the drum machine, you definitely want a MIDI connection. Audio interfaces combined with MIDI are probably a bit expensive if you don't already own one. You can get something as simple as this:
FORE MIDI to USB Interface MIDI Cable Adapter
I've used one of these on various computers to talk to keyboards. No reason they should not work(??) on a USB enabled windsynth:
So the minilogue would have the midi data sent through its usb port? Or would I need something like this to connect a 5-pin connector to the "midi in" port?
You're going to have to run it through a computer, or use it with some other piece of hardware. There is no way to "load sounds" on the unit to play it as a "normal" keyboard, which is what I'm assuming you want to do?
If you knew that, and don't know how to connect it to your computer, something like this will work to convert the MIDI ports to USB. If the Midistart 2 has USB MIDI, then connecting is even easier - you just need the right USB cable (most likely USB A male to USB B male).
But no matter what, you'll need to connect the midi keyboard to something else to hear sounds.
Hey man!
Coming back to this, i'm trying to make this project happen right now. One more question.
Would something like this work for hooking the rompler up to my computer to use with sample robot?
Aw that's too bad, have you tried downloading new drivers for the controller? I don't think they host the oxygen ones on their website anymore but it might register if you download the drivers for their latest 49 key controller. Or maybe have you tried switching the cable on the midi out port? Mine only works if the MIDI IN cable is plugged into the one labeled keyboard not the one labeled usb. This is the cable I use: https://www.amazon.com/FORE-Interface-Converter-Adapter-Laptop/dp/B0719V8MX1/ref=mp_s_a_1_4?adgrpid=55468341069&dchild=1&gclid=CjwKCAjwzt6LBhBeEiwAbPGOgepyEAE8BXHL3EFJ6WGuo_c2ZVwtNlJ-L84qO-b6c-MNqzJPxPG8zRoC060QAvD_BwE&hvadid=409941499...
I have an Akai MPK mini also attached and it's working fine. I'm using this specific adapter: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0719V8MX1?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2_dt_b_product_details
In bitwig it recognizes it as USB Midi MIDI 1 in the controller section.
lsusb sees it at Bus 001 Device 013: ID 552d:4348 USB Midi
Though I didn't even think about the fact that it's possibly doesn't know what to do with the input in linux. Let me see if I can figure out another way to use it on my machine to make sure it's even passing audio back and forth.
I'm not a Mac guy, so I cannot advise you there. I had Elements (on Windows) versions 7, 9, 10 and 11. And now Artist 11. I don't think there is much difference between Element 10 and 11. But alot more difference than 3. If you keep your current Mac, get Elements 10. When you replace your Mac, upgrade Elements to 11 or whatever is out at the time.
As far as your DX7 as a MIDI controller, I recently bought a MIDI to USB 'y' cable on Amazon. Worked great. Here is an example:
Would this one be okay? The reviews seem to be great.
Thanks for your response! My interface doesn't have midi connections unfortunately, so I was wondering if a usb to midi cable like this one might work.
I’m not sure if this is helpful but you may be able use this midi cable then add a USB to USB-C connector to the end.

The MIDI should work just fine, you can get a USB conversion for it on Amazon. MIDI hasn't changed a bit, that's the point of using the standard.

Hi, thanks for all of your nice comments about the Blipblox. Yes, you can synchronize two Blipbloxes with just a little bit of setup.
You can use a computer running a free version of DAW software like Ableton Live, and have it send out the tempo sync to the Blipbloxes via two USB-> MIDI cables like these: https://www.amazon.com/FORE-Interface-Converter-Adapter-Laptop/dp/B0719V8MX1/ref=sr_1_3?crid=3V07FL0WDSLG7&dchild=1&keywords=usb+midi+cable&qid=1619999242&sprefix=USB+midi%2Caps%2C215&sr=8-3
Both Blipbloxes will simultaneously respond to the MIDI start, stop and tempo messages generated by the music software. Let us know if you need any more details.
There are plenty of YouTube videos about how to program it. It seems very daunting at first but it's really not that big of a deal. I personally like programming it in "note" mode because I feel like the notes are better for toggling things on and off in Ableton. Just make sure you use notes you won't want to use in your project. I use the lowest octave. Getting the board to work with VSTs can be a bit of a process but again, no biggie once you figure it out.
You're gonna need a midi to USB cable to plug the board into your computer. I use this one and have never had a problem.

That’s the one I got and it’s been great!
You can buy something like this if you don't have an audio interface with Midi I/O already https://www.amazon.com/FORE-Interface-Converter-Adapter-Laptop/dp/B0719V8MX1
I didn't know that that was all the power that usb could put out, so that removes it as an option. Yeah, I think if someone has a lot of pedals and multi pedal adapters around, it could at least cut down on wall warts. But even that is using the power plug as opposed to the midi to deliver power.
The question to answer now is whether the $14 adapters like this (https://www.amazon.com/FORE-Interface-Connecting-Synthesizer-Recording/dp/B0719V8MX1/ref=redir_mobile_desktop?ie=UTF8&aaxitk=kw9u.ZhEwl-fds72bV9xZg&hsa_cr_id=4453088550801&pd_rd_r=13cf0e53-ef7d-47cb-abe7-e79747914916&pd_rd_w=3v817&pd_rd_wg=qXtId&ref_=sbx_be_s_sparkle_mcd_asin_0_title) are as good as the $40 Roland.

I cut an old usb cable, and wired three of the four wires to their respective pins, based on this diagram. When i turn on the keyboard, the windows device connected noise comes on, but it says "Device Not Recognized". I tried adding the white wire to each pin (on the MIDI out) that was un-used, and still nothing. Ive tried to install yamaha midi controller drivers, but no luck. Ive noticed every midi to usb converter cable has a little box on the wire. is that what stores the drivers? There is something i'm missing, but i don't know what. I could buy it, but i want to make sure its completely impossible to do on my own before i spend my scarce money. any thoughts?
