Yes, Target recently had them on sale. While that sale is now over you can get them the three month version @ Amazon.
FWIW I don't use FP for phone calls just data, so I can't speak to their call quality.
edit: I should add that the reason these are on sale is because FP is moving to a new pricing structure where 2GB will be the minimum data offered so they are unloading all the old 1GB plans.
This is the one I bought. [link]
There’s a thread on Audizine that covers all of it. You have to set it up under the guise of att. It’s not unlimited data but I don’t use very much. My S5 is not my daily. But even if it was, those maps don’t pull much data. It’s strictly to get the satellite images for Google maps but other functions seem to work to. Not all of the old connect, but news and weather seem to. Not that I ever use them.
So here's what I did in my 2016 S5 which Audi Connect expired long ago on. It seems to be hit and miss with different models and years but it worked for me and I was willing to drop $20 to see if it would or not. I bought this FreedomPop card on Amazon, activated it and put it into the SIM slot next to my other media slots in the dash. Go into your MMI and setup the SIM card and IIRC (it's been a while now) I had to pick AT&T as my provider (or something to do with ATT.) It immediately recognized my card and the 2G data stream icon lit up and Google map images downloaded. There's an Audizine thread that I was trying to find for you that has step by step instructions. This isn't the exact thread I wanted but it helps.
From what I read, the newest models can't do this. Audi realized people were doing this and put a stop to it. YMMV.
That new, I don't think you can. Some of the older MMIs like in my 2016 are able to purchase a SIM data card and it will run off of that on a prepaid monthly basis. That gives me Google Earth, weather, and some of the other things. It seems to be hit and miss. I use this Freedom Pop card ( https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0792FNBZL/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1 ) and it works great. But I recall reading another post where someone said Audi patched newer models from being able to do this.
