A good beginner's cookbook that's also fun is Snoop Dogg's bestselling cookbook, "From Crook to Cook"
This cookbook was written for college students by a person who was in a culinary arts school herself. There are classic recipes in here but simplified for college students learning how to cook: "The Ultimate Student Cookbook: From Chicken to Chili"
Like all cookbooks that have been out for a while, there are dirt cheap $2 & $5 used ones available.
