Why not just get the official switch adaptor they made? It costs the same and is available on Amazon. I’d trust that over some 3rd party adaptor.
( I think ) people say this
The adapter is on amazon for like $20 Link
My extended question is where to get good GC Controllers. i have 2 from SSB4 that are great. But i bought a stupid USB one on a whim from target a smash ultimate one, which kind of sucks. Need 2 more GC controllers , but not sure which ones to buy..
There is most definitely an Official Nintendo GameCube Controller Adapter it has just been sold out on Amazon since before Smash came out. I was able to get one shipped from Target, but most retailers no longer have them in stock.
Of course it wouldn't apply to this specific situation but you can get a Gamecube controller USB adapter for the Wii-U that supports up to 4 controllers and it actually works perfectly with the Switch as well! It's amazing if you have OG GC controllers laying around!
Here's a link via Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/GameCube-Controller-Adapter-Nintendo-Switch/dp/B07DJX3ZR8
It has two USB plugs because one USB port on the Wii-U doesn't provide enough power for the adapter, but it works on the Switch with only the grey end connected! Allowing the other USB port on the dock to connect a wired controller!
It looks like there's a 1st party connector for the switch:
https://www.amazon.com/GameCube-Controller-Adapter-Nintendo-Switch/dp/B07DJX3ZR8/
But all I was saying is that there isn't a 1st party option if you just want to buy a controller and use it with the switch without an adapter (wireless or USB).
I want to say it will probably end up being around $20-$30. That’s usually how much the knock offs are for, but it may be more since it’s Nintendo’s official adapter. On the bright side, the adapter does have 4 ports on it! So you and your friends can play! here’s a link to the adapter! It’s not available for sale yet, but they will make it available soon.
You can also get the official Gamecube adapter for $20.
The adapter is available too for $20

Don't know where you're looking that the adaptor is $100, the official adaptor for Switch is $20 on Amazon right now, and the new Ultimate controllers are $30
I purchased these and have used them to play both Smash Wii U as well as Smash Melee (through an emulator), and have had no issues with drift or anything like that.
Here's an Amazon link to the Official Nintendo adapter.
That's the only one I can personally recommend from my own experience.
Actually, it looks like Amazon has some Smash Ultimate Gamecube Controllers in stock too.
Here's the Mayflash adapter if the Official one is out of stock/too expensive.
I'd just get the official one now. Amazon has them in stock.
There isn't any telling whether or not history will repeat itself. But why risk it?
Just order on Amazon. Mine already came in.

Have you tried the official Gamecube controller adapter?

I dont think its a mistake when Amazon did the same thing to the adapter: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07DJX3ZR8/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
looks like its coming back into stock on amazon https://www.amazon.com/GameCube-Controller-Adapter-Nintendo-Switch/dp/B07DJX3ZR8/

They no longer have the $19.99 one I was trying to order but it indeed was listed by Amazon themselves.
There's an official adapter for up to four gamecube controllers (or eight with two of those but without rumble support) on the switch (since a lot of smb fans love it):
https://www.amazon.com/GameCube-Controller-Adapter-Nintendo-Switch/dp/B07DJX3ZR8/
Mayflash offers the same for a quarter of the price:
https://www.amazon.com/Mayflash-GameCube-Controller-Adapter-Switch/dp/B00RSXRLUE/
And they even brought a smb special edition gc controller:
https://www.amazon.com/GameCube-Controller-Super-Ultimate-nintendo-switch/dp/B07DJX3Y47/

If you already own a gc controller this might be the best option. It's a shame they didn't include some analog triggers in the first place.
Just figured out everywhere seems to charge $25 except GameStop has them for $20 but they’re only available in store though. Here’s the links for Best Buy, Amazon and GameStop.

Well, since there aren't any gamecube games for the virtual console (crossing my fingers), the only thing it's made for smash. The official adapter is only $20.
I mean it should.
But is the worry really worth $5? The official adapters are still in stock.

If you haven't gotten your hands on a GameCube controller adapter, don't worry! Nintendo is now re-releasing them and they're currently up for Pre-Order.

Is this not it? I thought it was supposed to be $20 though...

Even the Mayflash one went up in price as well... I guess they're capitalizing on the popularity of Smash Ultimate.
Thanks for reply!
I think my main deciding factor here is the cable length. My dock is perched above the floor, so if I connect any adapter directly to the dock, theres a risk of someone tripping over tugging the dock onto the floor.
Also just checked, seems like it's sold out here. I'l keep checking, want to spend my amazon credit.
