Ran a few runs with this and the product didn't come out as well compared to a different solution I tried. I did 3 different tests each with 25 plants in two different groups. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B007I6MN72/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_glt_fabc_VXXD5EZZFTTPM5AYAFNA product I ended up finding superior after the tents. Was easier to use as well as there was no measuring or smell.
I use this, that way I don’t have to remember to set water out. I bought it with some doubt in my mind, but it works great!

I use organic supplements and fox farm soil and just add water. No PH required. But I do filter the water to remove chlorine

These hose connectors remove chlorine and other toxins way easier and way more cost efficient. In some groups it is alsmo mentioned that these API (or other brand) water conditioners contain small amounts of toxic chemicals for turtle. However, I still need to see a source for that.
I have that, I am talking more about ones for hard water/chorine etc like this one that I see a lot locally

You probably just need something like this.
I have bought and used tons of these whenever I have worked with municipal water containing chlorine/chloramine and they are incredibly effective (especially for the price). You can get a save-a-drop meter and count the gallons before you buy a new filter or just guesstimate.
It is also true that you can simply fill up a container and let it sit, the chlorine and chloramine will turn to gas and evaporate within 24 hours (less if you use an air pump/air stone). But doing that for a half acre farm would be an incredible pain.
Hope this helps.

Filter from Amazon for tap water. This isn't an RO filter this only helps strip the chlorine and chloramines from tap water while leaving in calcium, magnesium and other trace minerals the RO water is stripping. I've went both ways had many issues using RO water and also long term some chlorine/chloramine build up after a few grows recycling soil. That filter has helped me tremendously.

no additives per se..if you want to remove everything then you'd need a reverse osmosis system, which will strip out everything from the water thru multiple layers of filters...the only issue is water carries many good minerals along with the bad chlorine...stripping them all away w Ro system you have to add them back in post filtering.
The chlorine filter I use is just a small prefilter and a carbon/mineral tube that leaves a bit of the minerals behind so I don't have to add in after the fact.
this is the one I use and worked well for me...I replace it every 2 grows

So I got tired of buying distilled water for my plants. I decided to experiment and bought what I thought was a gimmicky water filter. It worked great and that’s what I use now.

The chlorine and chloramine does need to be removed, but there are easier ways to go about it. I bought a garden hose filter on Amazon that makes work so much easier.
That's what I just bought for my organic living soil grow. Works great by the way.
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B007I6MN72/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_glt_fabc_VXXD5EZZFTTPM5AYAFNA I found this produces better than prime does my friend.

Saw this recommended on here and it seems to be working well for my plants and turtle so far
I use this filter and works great

Buy a garden hose filter.
Get a potable hose (they're white) and one of these: http://www.amazon.com/Garden-Hose-Filter-Chloramines-Pesticides/dp/B007I6MN72/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1462374307&sr=8-2&keywords=hose+end+filter
Do you think cheaper dechlorinator would be nearly effective as one of the souped up reverse osmosis thingies? I'm curious if I could get away with this rather than spending a lot more money on this. The reason being that we're pretty much out of water here in Southern California (El Niño has been a total bust so far).
Tested the water in the system tonight.
KH: 6
GH: 196.9
I tested the tap water for KH and got 3.
I can only guess that either the Stalite has carbonates in it (it shouldn't at all), or the water filter I've been using to add water to the system is adding them in. This is the filter we've been using: http://www.amazon.com/Garden-Hose-Filter-Chloramines-Pesticides/dp/B007I6MN72
(We have chlorine, chloramine, and fluoride added to our water here)
Edit: about Stalite media I'm using: http://community.theaquaponicsource.com/m/discussion?id=4778851%3ATopic%3A472643
my water co will use either chlorine or chloramines, depending on the time of year. I am using a filter ( http://www.amazon.com/Garden-Hose-Filter-Chloramines-Pesticides/dp/B007I6MN72/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1398479965&sr=8-3&keywords=garden+hose+chlorine+filter ) to remove them prior to putting in tank. And yes, I think my screwup was using a hydroponics ph down with citric acid.
