7a here! I was thinking the same thing. I finally broke down and put some cardboard boxes over the few annuals I had planted. I wouldn't have planted annuals yet, but they were birthday gifts. I did just move my whole greenhouse shelf thing outside this past weekend because my seedlings just weren't getting enough light to thrive inside. It's all zipped up but I'm a little worried... But probably not worried enough to carry it all back inside again.
OP’s look just like one I just got from Amazon. I haven’t set it up yet, though.
Gardman R687 4-Tier Mini Greenhouse, 27" Long x 18" Wide x 63" High https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000NCTGQE/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_fabc_.jjUFbFAQJSRZ?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
Oh no! I'll have to figure out what to do about the light, then. Do you know if a plastic tarp blocks UVA/B like glass does? My greenhouse is basically covered by a big plastic tarp.
27 x 19 x 63!! It's this one
New to this. I have a few small plants/props-in-progress that are doing okay, but I live in a very, very rainy/grey area (PNW, zone 8b) and I wanted to bring them in for the winter so they don’t get waterlogged. Would something like this (https://www.amazon.com/Gardman-R687-4-Tier-Mini-Greenhouse/dp/B000NCTGQE?ref_=ast_sto_dp) paired with some grow lights be enough to get started? Not looking to spend a ton of money until I know more of what I’m doing. Some kind of cover is necessary to keep my cat from chewing on them.
Hopefully the link works (I’m on mobile and don’t know wtf) but it’s from amazon! If you look up greenhouses they have a few different ones... I got the cheap one but it’s been super reliable.
Oh yeah, thanks, I’ve been checking these greenhouses during my last trip in IKEA. Pity they’re too small(( I was thinking to buy an indoor greenhouse , but they are ugly and not sturdy at all (meaning the shelves won’t hold the pots’ weight).
So I have a this in little indoor greenhouse https://www.amazon.com/Gardman-R687-4-Tier-Mini-Greenhouse/dp/B000NCTGQE/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1481908509&sr=8-4&keywords=green+house that I use as a fruiting chamber. And then I have a humidifier that sits inside connected to a humidity controller set at 90% relative humidity. To increase FAE I got small fan from and placed it just inside on the bottom rack pointing upwards and then cracked the zipper of the greenhouse about a foot so that it could suck in fresh air. Just had this on all the time. I think the weather has also helped. Its been pretty cold as of late (I live the bay area and don't turn on heat), so fruiting was triggered naturally.
Can anyone explain to me why someone would have a hard time flowering this oh so smelly flower? I was thinking of purchasing a small green house like this http://www.amazon.com/Gardman-R687-4-Tier-Mini-Greenhouse/dp/B000NCTGQE and getting one but don't want to spend the money if It won't ever flower ya know!
I'm going to assume you want to grow Oyster mushrooms.
It's going to be more than just the fruiting chamber. I've grown oysters in 5 gallon buckets outside in the shade.
You need a place to prep everything too. Do you have access to a kitchen? Are your house mates going to be ok when you start cooking up grains and straw that has an smell to it?
This is 27x18 and about the cheapest and smallest you can get for a fruiting chamber. Anything smaller and you are better off making something out of storage totes.

best of luck!
>The hardest part for me will be the in the sun but protected from rain bit. :/
A few years ago I lived in a place like you describe – it was impossible to get sun and also shelter from the rain. Eventually I bought a plant shelf with a cover (this one), and that worked pretty well. We don't get too much rain for most of the year, so I just left it uncovered most of the time and then put the cover on when it rained for more than a day. It wasn't a perfect solution, because the cover would also limit the air flow and so I constantly worried about my plants rotting, but it was mostly okay. There were a couple times that I deployed a fan on the back porch to keep the air moving, though, but that was after several humid days in a row. This might be too big for what you have in mind, but I bet someone makes a smaller version of something similar.
Btw, if you get a container with great drainage holes and the soil keeps falling out when you fill it, just place one ply of tissue or toilet paper over the hole while you're filling it up. If it doesn't dissipate naturally after the first couple of waterings, poke it with a pencil to clear the hole out again.
Good luck! Let us know how it goes! And if you find some great shelf/cover solution, I'd love to hear about it.
Probably squirrels or chipmunks, you're already trying the hot pepper, it works for awhile somewhat. The only thing I've found is this keeps everything out but stays a little too warm on sunny days so it's either take the plastic off or take all the plants out and put on a table. Neither are very convenient but worked so far.
I've also got a bird feeder on the other side of my house that the squirrels/chipmunks stay at and haven't ventured into my garden or touched any of my succulents. Give them something else to eat and they should leave your plants alone.
All else fails, rat traps, dog/cat and an air rifle are all options too :D
My Akai Ryu is flowering, didn't know you weren't supposed to let that happen. We'll see what happens :D
Don't be too jealous, it's nothing more than a glorified shelving unit with a plastic covering. Top shelf gets quite hot in the afternoon sun with no vents/shade cloth, I've burned more than 1 plant up there. Works great to keep rain out though, here's the one I have
It's not a real greenhouse, its just a shelving unit with plastic covering, all of these plants have been in full sun since spring. I mentioned which greenhouse I had in an earlier reply.

Look into a Martha tent setup Gardman R687 4-Tier Mini... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000NCTGQE?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
there is a video series called "lets grow mushrooms" by Marc Keith on youtube that is very thorough and helpful. here is a link to most of them. depending on if you wanna "go from scratch" as they say (like doing sterile culture work with petri plates and scalpels, sterilizing grain spawn, and inoculating it) or just purchase kits and have a small tent set up in your room here is an example, but it can be half this tall so all you are doing is fruiting them, there are different ways of going as far as what you should learn.
Here is the one I just got in, starting the setup today! 😃

Snag one of these!

Where you get the green house? I found one similar on amazon for anyone that needs a link. Yours appears a tad cheaper though so I'm curious.

Well she already has the gift of a thoughtful and considerate husband. You seem so excited for her birthday.
You don't mention size, price range or portability, so I am assuming that storage might be a consideration since you don't have a garage. Amazon offers quite a few and some have caster wheels, and so does Home Depot. Or you can DIY and make it a labor of love.
Let us know what you come up with.
how big are you trying to go? a small investment can increase your volume quite a bit. a popular Martha can be made from a greenhouse rack a humidifier and a timer.
How about picking up a small portable greenhouse? https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000NCTGQE/ref=cm_sw_r_sms_apa_kU9JybVE3FQ01
that's what i figured but just had to check
This comes in handy. You can remove the plastic on hot days and replace it on rainy days
$30 for just the greenhouse. http://www.amazon.com/Gardman-R687-4-Tier-Mini-Greenhouse/dp/B000NCTGQE/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1429253927&sr=8-1&keywords=4+tier+greenhouse.
Do research on which humidifier to buy, I wasted $100 for this elektra one.
I rather should have bought these.
