try this: (use at own risk)

I've brought a bunch of "broken" electronics back from the dead with it. spray it into the button and press it a bunch of times, then gently wiggle it around. *try to avoid getting the spray into the gimble at the base of the stick. the spray will wash it away but that joint needs to stay lubed.
I bought a can of Contact Cleaner the other day to fix a drifting Joycon joystick. It cured it brilliantly and made me wonder what else I could fix with it. Similarly to you, I had a Joycon where I’d spilt some cider over one corner and made the X and + buttons sticky (similar to you, I guess?). I had tried using a toothbrush in the past to loosen the stickiness but whilst it worked for a while, it soon returned to be sticky. I applied the spray a few hours ago and all seems pretty good so far. Might be worth a try - I bought a can on Amazon for £5: WD40 Fast Drying Contact Cleaner... https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00KPUBO2S?ref=yo_pop_ma_share
This worked for me because it seems the issue was dust. This isn't always the case though, prolonged use can cause more permanent drift.
Make sure you use this cleaner, or similar.
Oh that sounds good cheers. Have just tried blowing in it and using a hoover extension but I’ll try that
Is this the kind of stuff you’re talking about?
Use this, it will sort it !!
WD-40 Specialist Fast Drying Contact Cleaner 250ml https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00KPUBO2S/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_EJDCHZ5A71EYN2CA146X?psc=1 Spray it into the joystick hole
Electrical contact cleaner. Fixed my drift issues. Make sure you push the stick in, spray while circling a few times. Job done.
Thank you for such a detailed response. The cleaner you linked isn't available in my country (UK) so found this alternative: https://www.amazon.co.uk/WD40-Drying-Contact-Cleaner-250ml/dp/B00KPUBO2S/ref=sr_1_1_sspa?dchild=1&keywords=contact+cleaner&qid=1623191555&sr=8-1-spons&psc=1&spLa=ZW5jcnlwdGVkUXVhbGlmaWVyPUEyWjNEWjBHQTlJUEhGJmVuY3J5cHRlZElkPUEwMjYzMzAwMjFGVUdWNFZaQUdFViZlbmNyeXB0ZWRBZElkPUEwNTIzNjExM0ZFWlA4RkZMSE5OMyZ3aWRnZXROYW1lPXNwX2F0ZiZhY3Rpb249Y2xpY2tSZWRpcmVjdCZkb05vdExvZ0NsaWNrPXRydWU=
Should be ok right? If so I'll get round to doing the cleaning when it arrives.
Also, could be completely wrong, but as far as I know there is only one main fuse (by the battery) and no fuse box on my bike. That main fuse is also only 10amps, which does seem a bit low but that's spec I think. It is only a 125 after all.
Should I clean any of the wires stashed inside the headlight housing? The insulative covers covering the connections between wires are quite dirty too, I would replace them but I'm not sure what they're called lol.
Thanks for your help, I really appreciate it. Trying to learn from a Haynes manual but it's not particularly good for my model as it's in a book comprising lots of similar bikes (some of which are covered more in depth) and is therefore not super detailed to my specific model.
I always use this contact cleaner and it always sorts the problem https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00KPUBO2S/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_glt_fabc_0VABNSG2ZYQ8C6NPETG7?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
