This!!
I've been debating doing a whole thread on this sub about this machine. About $100 and it's saved us at least 3x that amount so far in about a year. I'm obsessed. It can wash a queen sized fleece blanket and fits in the tiny bathroom in my apt. My neighbors swear they can't hear it. I can do laundry every day if I want. You can bleach one shirt, because suddenly that's become affordable. No noticeable jump in my electric or hot water bills. I even use it to dye faded or stained clothes. It's been a miracle for me. Honestly, I'll stop now, because I feel entirely too strongly about this little machine, and I could talk about it all night.
Giantex Portable Mini Compact Twin Tub Washing Machine Washer Spain Spinner, Blue & White (17.6lbs- Blue+ White) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01ALBMIEI/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_bfL8AbYE3KXZK
I'll be honest and admit I didn't read your whole post, but I am always looking for opportunities to talk about my washing machine!
I said eff it to laundromats a few years ago and bought one of these: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01ALBMIEI It does about 1/3 load of a commercial washer. Just stick it in your tub, run a couple cycles, and hang everything to dry.
I have a super who isn't nosy so this may not work for everyone. But it's been life-changing for me.
Totally agreed. I have this model from Amazon and have used it for a year now. It's truly changed my life since a lot of apartments in my area don't have hook-ups. The washer itself is pretty gentle on clothes but I would recommend garment bags for your delicates/tights/bras as they do tend to get tangled a bit, which may stretch out your items.
The model I have has one of the larger load capacities of the ones on Amazon. In a typical load you can fit something like this:
We bought this one from Giantex. Though, it’s labeled Costway. Same manufacturer, I guess. Not sure I’d recommend it, it’s clunky and slides across the floor when it’s on, and the inlet hose is too small to actually use as it comes. But it was cheap as hell and it’s easy to transport, plus has a spin dry side that’s comparable to a salad spinner
This is the exact one I bought, it was only $99 back in 2018 but it has held up so well, I would totally buy it for twice as much if it needed to be replaced today.

You could get one of those small portable washing machines. You control the water consumption of about how much electricity they use but it's sure less than a larger one. A good middle ground if you ask me. Here's a link https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01ALBMIEI/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_53HCFbY85EDPX
Edit. I'm Nigeria and hand washing clothes is a very common thing in Nigeria. It's kind of a skill tbh. Requires learning and strength. People often get paid to do it. Kinda like a mobile washing machine but a person/ group of people.
I have one like this. I tried early on to do the diapers 100% in there but struggled to find a method that got the soap out completely. I still love it though because I can do a small load every other day of one run with soap and one without. Then I save the partially washed diapers up until I have a full load for my regular machine. I only run them through the regular machine once since they are already pre washed in the portable. This way I’m not running my large machine inefficiently and not letting the diapers sit around dirty (and smelly) for too long.
Not sure if this is listed outside of Canada, but may be what you are looking for. Amazon has tons. I would reccomend making sure that adding this to your home will not go against your lease! As well as your insurance (just as a precaution of course)
I'm so sorry this happened! I hope it turns up somewhere.
In the meantime I would be tempted to buy a drying rack that you could hang your underwear to try. You can get a portable washing machine as well for your apartment. This might be a solution if it doesn't turn up.
So I've been using this one for almost a year:
https://www.amazon.com/Giantex-Portable-Compact-Washing-Machine/dp/B01ALBMIEI
Pros: Cheap, the spin cycle is amazing Cons: Doesn't 100 percent fully dry clothes (you have to hang them), and you have to manually fill it up with water for both wash and rinse cycle.
I'd suggest looking up Youtube How-tos if you want to get a better idea of how people use it.
I still use coin-operated washers for big stuff: Towels, sheets, but I usually just put them all in one load every few weeks and consider paying for the tech.
So far I'm pretty such my portable washer has paid for itself, though.
time to invest in one of these
They have a lot of good reviews and it saves you money
Buy yourself one of these or something like it: Giantex Portable Mini Compact Twin Tub Washing Machine 17.6lbs Washer Spain Spinner Portable Washing Machine, Blue+ White https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01ALBMIEI/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_glt_i_AX6CPD25S2GG5QXATW7J
If the link doesn’t work just search Giantex Portable Mini Compact Twin Tub Washing Machine. You can also get them from their site I believe.
They aren't as nice as you might think. The wash and spin are done on separate sides, so the user has to move the laundry back and forth between them. Th advantage to this is that it allows the build quality to be ridiculously low, so you can have dirt-cheap appliances. This one, for example, only weighs 28 pounds, and probably only costs that much.
Technically not a dryer I just say that because it spins them so I would still have to hang them up Giantex Portable Mini Compact Twin Tub Washing Machine 17.6lbs Washer Spain Spinner Portable Washing Machine, Blue+ White https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01ALBMIEI/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apan_glt_i_QD12ES4PER8MGY4T2W5E?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
Not who you asked, but this is the one I'm getting when I can afford it. I live in 200 sqft so it would be amazing for me. It'll take me a year or more to save though cause I live on disability of about $700 a month and never have extra money.
I've never seen a portable dryer though and I really hope he answers that one!
I used one of these when I lived in an apartment. Super light, works well, hooks up to your tap.
What exactly are you asking, like advice on which to get? Not sure about that but the comments on a YouTube video about this one seem really positive Giantex Portable Mini Compact Twin Tub Washing Machine 17.6lbs Washer Spain Spinner Portable Washing Machine, Blue+ White https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01ALBMIEI/ref=cm_sw_r_awdo_navT_a_M1NNA6CV3XGXDG3JS94D
I know it probably seems expensive, but maybe spend some to invest in this? Not only can you stay home and do your laundry, but you dont have to worry about quarters :)
Im not sure of your situation with clothes washing at home and such, but I was so tired of going to the laundromat I bought this.
I have a spot in my house to store it, an technically have a washer and dryer hook up in my house and the room for them, but I don't want to spend the money on them. I bought this thing when it was on a good sale and it is the best thing I've purchased from Amazon. I stick it in my tub, where the cord is not going to be a problem so that it drains when I'm done washing. I have a handheld shower head attachment that makes it very easy. I air dry my laundry and it works better in my opinion. My clothes and things washed haven't been so worn and they last longer. It cleans better than a regular machine in my opinion as well. There are so many different kinds on amazon and different sizes. But I thought this may be an interesting solution if you are in the market for one.
Get one of these and consider your laundry problems solved. It’s very inexpensive, gentle on clothing, and last well if you take care of them. They have a very good wash action that will clean clothes with just a few drops of dish soap, and only uses about 2 - 3 gallons of water per full wash. The spin dryer gets your clothes 90% fully dry and 20 minutes hung in the sun completely dries them. If you want to be extra green, reuse the water you get from the spin dryer for your next batch of clothing. You can get similar machines in smaller sizes as well, but that one does fine for 2 - 3 people doing the wash once a week.
My wife and I use it when we’re RVing.
Absolutely! This is what I got. https://www.amazon.com/Giantex-Portable-Compact-Washing-Machine/dp/B01ALBMIEI
Has pretty decent reviews and my friend got the same one. She says it works well. A bit more work as it doesn’t rinse and spin automatically. The way you use it is you put the clothes in, fill it with water, add some soap, and turn it on and let it do it’s thing. Once it’s finished you drain the water out you fill it with water again and you run it again which is essentially the rinse cycle. Once that’s finished you drain the water out again and then you take the clothes and put them in the second smaller compartment which is the spin and while many many reviewer‘s have been calling it a dryer it’s really not it just spins all the water out. And at that point you can either hang them up to dry, or as I probably will deal with certain things, is take them to my complex is laundry room and use the dryer’s there. The dryers there aren’t so much of a problem for me as are the washers
Totally hear you. Due to covid, I decided to get a portable washer / spin dryer combo. Its been a game changer for sure, and I see myself still using it when the pandemic dies down. It helps that water is included in my rent, and to speed up drying I put my clothes on a drying rack in front of a fan at high speed.
I can’t personally attest to these products but I remember seeing a post once about living cheap and people seemed to say these had served them well at one point. And IMO, at the price point, if it lasts at least a year you get your money/convenience worth and can also take it with you Giantex Portable Mini Compact Twin Tub Washing Machine m
I've seen a couple of off grid YouTubers using this portable washer, they seemed very happy with it.

the laundromat.
you mean you don't have the hook ups (pipes, drains) or don't have the money for the machines only?
don't overlook a used washer dryer set. craigslist often has nice sets for under $400.
if no space, a lot of people like the small portable washers
https://www.amazon.com/Giantex-Portable-Compact-Washing-Machine/dp/B01ALBMIEI
There are some fairly affordable portable washing machines on Amazon too. https://www.amazon.com/Giantex-Portable-Compact-Washing-Machine/dp/B01ALBMIEI/ref=mp_s_a_1_3?dchild=1&keywords=portable+washing+machine&qid=1597042223&sprefix=portable+wash&sr=8-3
If you can afford it an in unit mini washer is totally worth it. They hook up to the sink and drain into the sink or shower. Most have a decent spin cycle to dry clothes. They’re awesome! I’m linking one I know a lot of people really like from Amazon
Giantex Portable Mini Compact Twin Tub Washing Machine 17.6lbs Washer Spain Spinner Portable Washing Machine, Blue+ White https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01ALBMIEI/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_qiPiFb29XTGBK
Something to consider is a small portable washer. I got one of these for $100 on Amazon two years ago because the washers in the building where I live are often broken and people have dogs here, so they often are full of dog hair and they smell of mildew. The little washer I got you have to be careful not to overload it, but buy is it nice not to deal with all the issues and no quarters necessary. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01ALBMIEI/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I use a similar one, too, although mine is a two-tub model and not the one-tub model.
I bought this one specifically. It does get the clothes clean, and I think it's larger than the one Interloper linked-- I generally have more issues with the weight of clothes in it than physically overfilling it (too much and the clothes don't spin well and don't get as clean.) I can generally fit in 5-6 T-shirts or one pair of jeans into a load-- you can fit more if they're kids clothes or you're petite. Things that get very heavy when wet (fleece is a big culprit here) will need to be washed in a smaller load.
The spinner gets things very dry; if I do my laundry in the evening and turn on a fan for air circulation, everything but jeans will typically be dry by morning. (The exception was the time I didn't think and put out a week of laundry and an overnight sous vide cook at the same time. Woke up to damp clothes and a disconcertingly humid apartment-- fortunately, it was a cool, dry day so opening the windows helped a lot.)
It's convenient, but it's more hands-on than an automatic washer-- a week's worth of laundry is usually about 3 hours from the first tub fill to having them all up on the drying racks to dry.
My clothes usually aren't that dirty-- I usually just need to wash out sweat and body oils-- so I'll reuse wash water for several small loads before I drain the wash tub.
I got this one!
I purchased this portable washer and dryer from amazon, and it is great! The spin tub does a great job at extracting water from the clothes, they come out almost dry before I hang them up.
Read the reviews. One of the people who left a review recommended getting an adapter for the faucet. This is the link of the adapter https://www.homedepot.com/p/NEOPERL-Solid-Brass-Dual-Thread-for-3-4-in-Hose-or-Male-55-64-in-Adapter-37-0109-98/202243060
We used a portable washer - a panda. This is the most similar I could find on amazon: https://www.amazon.com/Giantex-Portable-Compact-Washing-Machine/dp/B01ALBMIEI/ref=sr_1_1_sspa?keywords=panda+washer&qid=1553739334&s=gateway&sr=8-1-spons&psc=1

We used it for about 8 months before buying our house, and honestly, I preferred it for diaper laundry even after we moved. For us, it was a little more aggressive of a wash, so I found that pockets and AIOs were best. I had a few prefolds "eaten" by the tough wash cycle. I might have been overloading though, so you may have a different experience.

Our routine was to leave it hooked up in the "spare" bathroom, and load the diapers in as we used them. About once a day or once every other day, I would do a rinse, a regular wash, then 2 full rinses. Then I would do the spin dryer. Hang dry in a line in the bathroom, and we were all set. Feel free to PM if you need any help, we had our baby in cloth from day through when she essentially potty trained herself at 2.5.

I've been using this for two years so far
I live in an apartment with no washer dryer connection so I use a portable one like this and it works great and saves us a ton of money https://www.amazon.com/Giantex-Portable-Compact-Washing-Machine/dp/B01ALBMIEI
Your dream has just come true
https://www.amazon.com/Giantex-Portable-Compact-Washing-Machine/dp/B01ALBMIEI
I've used this continuously for over three years. Your new best friend.
I haven't used my apts laundry for over a year.. i don't think its safe to use common surfaces in a small room due to covid..
I just was my clothes by hand and it's fine as I live alone and don't leave the house (work from home) so I can get by wearing leggings and a tshirt for a week straight or longer... I just wash it in the sink... I don't go anywhere so I don't need to wash much!
You could always buy a portable washing machine... they are real cheap on amazon https://www.amazon.com/Giantex-Portable-Compact-Washing-Machine/dp/B01ALBMIEI/
I think you connect these to a faucet and the water can get dumped in your bath tub or something like that...
I don't have much to wash to be honest as I wfh... and am kind of lazy so I don't think washing is a necessity for me at all.

If you have the space and it's within your budget these portable washers are very highly recommended if you're trying to avoid the laundromat. They also make a heated drying rack.
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01ALBMIEI/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_fabc_L6q2FbF50S5KE
Look into things like this one..
I got a portable washer/spinner and gave up on the whole laundromat BS a couple years ago. If you're single (and especially working from home!!) it works great. As long as you don't have a nosy super.
Have you considered something like this?
There's two types of portable washers that I've encountered.
Small cheaper ones that have a separate wash bin, and spinner like this one. https://www.amazon.com/Giantex-Portable-Compact-Washing-Machine/dp/B01ALBMIEI/ref=mp_s_a_1_4 The advantage here is it's cheaper, but the downside is it's a gravity drain, and you do have to manually transfer stuff from wash to spin, but my dad has one in his RV, and he loves it. It actually cleans his stuff really well. Most people I've talked to who have this style will move it into the bathtub while in use.
There's also this style which is more like a traditional washing machine which can connect to your faucet. https://www.amazon.com/Giantex-Full-Automatic-Portable-programs-Selections/dp/B078MGY2CS/ref=sxin_12 This one was the kind my husband and I had, (though not that brand) because it had a drain pump, and required less babysitting.
The drying frame is easy, you can usually find options for 20-40 bucks at most stores like Menards, home depot, Meijer, BB) etc. I personally prefer the gullwing style. They fit more stuff, and still fold up small enough to store easily. Something like this https://www.amazon.com/Sunbeam-Folding-Collapsible-Clothes-Drying/dp/B01LDU0C4Y/ref=mp_s_a_1_6
It's definitely an investment up front, but it was a godsend to be able to do laundry in the apartment, and not have to wait for maybes to be free, and not have to spend $3 a load.
It's great! There's a bit of a learning curve to it but once you get down a process, it's a piece of cake. You can technically hook it up to a water source, but my bathroom was kinda funky so I just got a bucket from the dollar tree. I got mine from amazon for 130.
The drain works by gravity, so I have mine sitting on an old tote box with the drain in the tub. I had to do a first wash with the soap and water then drain (You have to make sure it drains all the way so you don't have to throw it in the ringer to get rid of the soap) then i put in more buckets of water plus my fabric softener. Usually about like, 20 minutes total. Then I just threw it in the ringer portion and had a drying rack for it. Depending on how damp your climate is, you want to get clothes done ahead of time. I had to do thing a day and a half in advance.
Here's the one I bought: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01ALBMIEI/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
best of luck to you!
Ive been looking at this on amazon. But i feel like there might be other options besides that.

You can also get something like this, for spinning out the wet clothing. Its basically a salad spinner with a drain lol
My building is also coin laundry, so I refused to use it. We lived in China where washing by hand is common, so it's something we are used to anyways. For our washer, I bought the Magic Chef, and honestly would not recommend it if you don't have a washer hookup in the house. It is a hassle and has caused leaks when hooking up to the sink because of built up pressure. People on YouTube get it to work but I have my doubts about those videos. I have to use it basically by filling it up manually, the same as the under $100 ones on Amazon. If I could go back I would honestly buy this one.
