I am not in the desert, maybe it was one here once in SoCal, but I always go for light colored helmets as I get hot easily. I really wanted a skateboard looking one but went with ventilation and a visor. I picked up a Giro w MIPS for not too much. I like the look of it too.

Like other people have said, you don't need a full face unless you are doing strictly downhill. While looking for a helmet, make sure it has MIPS. In my opinion it is essential and still comes on cheaper helmet.
I like this helmet, but it is a XL which more than likely wont fit you. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B075RL9QVQ/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o06_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
If you must have a full face, look at Fox and Bell.
