Do you have a good dryer? It may depend on the dog but a lhasa/cocker mix sounds like it would have pretty dense hair...you're gonna want to make sure you have a dryer powerful enough to dry through to the skin, and efficient enough to not make the hair all frizzy. Human hair-dryers aren't often strong enough, but you can get pretty decent velocity dryers on amazon. I have this one and it's really good for my Golden, who has very thick fur. It's small enough to work in a bathroom, and it's not even horribly loud.
I have this one, plus a grooming table set up in the garage, and do a thorough brush + blow dry about once a week. I used to do it after every walk and that got to be way too much! Once a week, I also take the dryer through the house and blow all the dust/hair out the back door.
I have this one. I'm sure it's not the best one on the market, and people who care about professional-quality grooming probably wouldn't touch it, but it has worked well for me!
Or, you could always just go to a self-serve dog wash place. They usually have HV dryers for people to use.
I have this one. I'm sure it's not the best one on the market, but it's cheap and gets the job done. It's probably one of the better dog-related purchases I've made, and it really does make a big difference in the amount of shedding, especially when my dogs are blowing their coats.
One tip, though: dry your dog outside. The fur will fly everywhere, and clean up is much less of a hassle if it's all over your backyard instead of your bathroom.
You're welcome! And the shedding is definitely going to be a part of your life with a corgi. That said, and this is very subjective, but I think it's both manageable and worth it! You also kind of get used to it, haha.
If you keep up with vacuuming and brushing, it will go a long way in keeping the fur in check. Also, look into adding fish oil and/or coconut oil to his meals. They're both great supplements to include and can improve a dog's skin and coat. Another tool that we use to help control shedding is a high-velocity blow dryer (example). It's basically a hair dryer on crack. We use it after baths to dry him off quickly and because it's so powerful, it blows loose fur right out.
There's a pretty wide price range. I have this one, which is one of the less expensive ones out there. It probably wouldn't last long in a professional grooming salon, but for the 2-4 times per month I use it, it's more than adequate. The professional grade dryers can get to be $400+.
Also do this with my Australian Shepherd. I am pretty sure if I didn't his coat would hold water for days. I also use it after I've brushed him to get off any of the loose hair. I have one similar to this one. http://www.amazon.com/Go-Pet-Club-Grooming-Dryer/dp/B00DX24SD2/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1440441607&sr=8-1&keywords=high+velocity+dryer&pebp=1440441623283&perid=0Z6EMDCM1Q6461WM8QX8
The Furminator shampoo and conditioner works really well! Using a dryer like this would also help get out the undercoat.
I have this force dryer. There are nicer ones out there, but for me, this one has been worth every penny. It really helps with the shedding too.
I've used Buddy Wash in my salon before, it SUCKS to rinse out. Get a good whitening shampoo, spray leave in conditioner and a cheapy force dryer. Be sure to dilute the shampoo and wet your pup down before applying it. That dryer is nowhere near professional quality but for the price, it's fantastic.
Amazon has several options under $100. Search for "high velocity dryers for dogs". I have this one, and it's worked well for me.
Non-mobile: This is the dryer.
