Google's mesh WiFi system is pretty legit, I just put one in because I have two floors and plaster walls. Check the Amazon reviews, it's a highly rated item on there. Good luck with your interwebs.
I ordered three from Amazon. They were discounted at $268. Woops, now they are $299. Weird. Well maybe they will be again $268.19 here is a link.
80's split level I think around 1600-1800 Sq ft. The cable outlet is on the upper level and my console is on the lower level on the other side of the house probably 70 ft away and through one wall. It's some random modem from my ISP and the Google WiFi for wireless.
Nothing is plugged into the modem besides the initial google node. I have one of them in the room in question and that is plugged into my console. So the connection into my console is
((Main inlet (whatever) - modem - first wifi node)) - wall - second wifi node ethernet into console.
FFS bot go away we're doing a thing here.

I got a google mesh system when I had a camera installed in the garage.

Wifi is great all around the house, I just set it up to use the existing Wifi name and turned off Wifi on my router, all devices worked without any issues.
This is the one I got but they have newer versions available now:
I only did cursory research and went this way based on a recommendation from a co-worker who has the same system. Absolutely no issues - my neighbor wound up buying the same system and there has been zero interference between us.
I had another system that I bought from Amazon which wasn’t working well. I still couldn’t get wifi coverage in my house. I was able to return it and bought the Google wifi system. Works perfectly.

If this is your house and not a rental, I would highly suggest buying a 1000' box of cable and wiring the place up. Otherwise, get yourself a mesh Wi-Fi setup for your router/wireless coverage, and get at least 2 nodes to cover all 3 floors. If you get two units, put one on the lowest level and one on the highest, or of upi buy a 3 pack put one on each floor on opposite sides of the house. So the one in the lowest floor would be at the front of the house, middle floor would be towards the back of the house, top floor would be at the front of the house again. As far as what modem to get just check the carrier approved modem list and buy whatever's cheap that has good reviews on Amazon.
We replaced our aging Apple base stations with Google Mesh:
The setup is almost as or just as easy as Apple's and they have been working like champs.

My understanding of "mesh" is simply a hardwired network of wireless access points. No different really from buying/building a router and installing access points other than the fact that it's a bit more hands off and you get the factory configuration to make wireless handoffs a breeze. Systems like Google's wifi are also hardwired and don't simply rely on wireless repeating, which is nice.
I wired the entire house with cat5 and cat6 so installing individual APs won't be a problem and I've heard great things about Ubiquiti in general. Just weighing my options. On one hand a nice A/C system would be awesome. On the other, I'm cheap and what I have works :). If a 3 pack of new APs is only $130 I can just go that way. I was just going to see if you had anything you were really itching to get rid of.
On sale at Amazon in the US right now. Not sure if same price elsewhere.
Noticed it is the best selling router on Amazon.

Pre-ordered ours and love them. Replaced out AirPort Extremes when the news came down that Apple was ending development.
"Why is Apple abandoning the AirPort Extreme, AirPort Express and AirPort Time Capsule?"
Last update was 7.7.8 late last year and guess that is it.
Looks like you basically only have Comcast/Xfinity as an option there. You really don’t need more than 60-150 Mbps for internet speeds. Also, when signing up for Comcast, buy your own modem from somewhere like Amazon. It’ll save you a perpetual $11 per month fee from Comcast.
Buy the modem that Wirecutter recommends and then buy the router they suggest as well, though it depends on if you need one router for a small home/apartment, or a mesh network like Google WiFi units
You'll never really find a router than can do it all by itself. Generally you'll need access points, a mesh system, or ethernet/coax adapaters.
I saw you don't really want to run cables for access points, and you're okay with getting 100mbps so long as there is good coverage. What you want is probably a mesh system. They are usually very simple to setup and should give you what you are looking for. Google mesh is the most common, and honestly what I have heard the best reviews for. You can find 3 pack on amazon for ~$230, which may push your budget a bit. There are cheaper alternatives, but in the end you get what you pay for. The downside is it can only for a nest with Google Nest Wifi, Google Wifi, and OnHub* routers. The brightside, the 3 pack is probably overkill for your apartment, and I think you could squeeze by with 1 AP and a router with wifi. There are plenty of combos out there. While it doesn't have as many features as some other options, this setup may be decent option for you. I think it would accomplish what you are looking for. I haven't used it personally, so do a bit more research if you decide on going this route:
Meshforce Whole Home Mesh - ~$180 (3 pack)
You can also settle for the 1 pack instead of 3 as the square footage is pretty low. Granted 6 people with their own phones, computers, TV, etc... could benefit from a few more APs. Really depends on how much traffic there is.
A lot of people like to recommend Ubiquiti, I don't blame them as that is what I use, if you do go that route, I would look into Amplifi, though it will be a bit more pricey than google wifi, so that one is probably off the list. Their AP lite's are pretty nice and come in around ~130, you could do 1 along with an edge router X, but I don't think that would give you the coverage you want as the ER-X is purely cabled, and no wifi.

You need this. Put one of them in your room

You can plug an ethernet cable into the extender
Put one on each floor
Google Wifi Mesh and Netgear ethernet switch. I don’t have ethernet wires running across the ceiling/walls.
I hide my Wifi Hub and Switch under/behind the sofa.

You can even do it on a budget by buying some old AC router and installing Tomato USB on it and turning it into a wireless ethernet bridge.
try a mesh system like Google Wifi
Actually I just stumbled across this. In your instance mesh network is the way to go when you need to cover a large sq ft area without wired infrastructure to provide backhaul. I've converted several people over from airport extremes to these with great results.
My ISP is Spectrum cable and my router is this.
Here is a direct link to what I purchased.

It indicates only third parties offering. So not sure if out of stock or Amazon is weird about selling Apple and Google products.
But what amazes me is accidently seeing the eero three pack price when looking for the Google Wifi.
It indicates they are $461. Wow is Google going to sell a lot of these. Think eero is going to have to rethink their pricing. They are excellent but I would expect the Google WiFi devices with their more beefy quadprocessors, etc are going to be faster.
Pre-ordered on Amazon for $268.19. Now it is $299. But it might go back down again. Amazon is weird about prices always changing.

This morning I saw Google Wifi listed on amazon (Sold by Amazon.com) for preorder and ship date of Dec 1st. Went there tonight and see amazon pulled the listing. This was the listing, but no longer works: https://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B01MDJ0HVG/ref=dp_olp_new?ie=UTF8&condition=new
Currently using Google WiFi, got the 3 puck pack for $250 on amazon, currently $260
Not sure how big your apartment is, but you can get this three pack or maybe just the single one would do?

i don't know charter well, but if you can replace your router. google wifi changed my life. main unit where your old router is, then spread out the other two pucks as needed. as someone else stated halfway down the stairs works. but that is a pricey change.google wifi 3 pack (amazon) $255

You should save for the google mesh router that sells for $269. I just got it and my entire house and back yard get 100Mbps now.
