Just used my phone, gets hard after a while to hold it in the right place so I bought some cheap binocular mount for smartphones https://www.amazon.com/dp/B013D2ULO6/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apap_A82aYr58aStmv
As for the slow mo, it is just a feature on the phone
A holder like this should do the trick.
Amazon | Gosky Universal Cell Phone Adapter Mount – Compatible with Binocular, Monocular, Spotting Scope, Telescope and Microscope
My adaptor has ‘Felidio’ written on it and looks like this one on amazon.
It takes patience to set up and use, but can deliver great results (given the scope and my limited skill).
There are a lot of different phone mounts but I use a Gosky Universal Cell Phone Adapter Mount.
https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B013D2ULO6
It may not be what you need so do some research before you buy any mounts as this one can be quite hard to orient in dark conditions.
Yep, I use the Gosky mount.
Put the mount on the eyepiece and get it all setup indoors, then you just need to put it on the telescope. Use NightCap to set focus to infinity and control your exposure and ISO so that the planets show detail in your photos/videos.
I have an adapter that I got on Amazon. (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B013D2ULO6/ref=cm_sw_r_em_apa_i_6eahEbHE2VGHJ)
It's still really hard to line everything up but the mount is fairly adjustable to maneuver the phone around until I get something usable and luckily with the quad camera setup on the note10+ I can "cheat" a bit by using the Tele (zoomed) camera sensor which its focal length allows me to natively "crop into" the eye piece and focus on the object a lot easier.

There used to be only a few models but the market is saturated now
I'm glad I could help! It's a little bit of a wonky solution and I'm sure it's not how the pros do it but I've managed to sell coins on ebay and take cool pictures of bugs for years with it.
For ease of use: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B013D2ULO6/ref=ppx\_yo\_dt\_b\_asin\_title\_o04\_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Best thing you can do if you want to take photos of the moon or planets with your iphone and your telescope is to get a phone adapter. Something like this, though there are plenty of brands selling similar devices. You probably won't be able to take photos of deep space objects (DSOs), but planets and the moon will be within reach. Good luck!
Cool. If you're going to do eyepiece projection, can you get your hands on a cell phone holder...something similar to this?
Hello! I got back to my house and found that the mount was the Gosky Universal mount. It works fine, but it occasionally puts too much pressure on the power/ volume buttons and takes pictures or turns off involuntarily. I may just be using it wrong, but that is my only complaint with it. Clear skies!
I used a tripod and something like that to take the pictur. My camera settings
F = Auto
S = 1/250
ISO = 200
I hope I was able to help, sorry if there is a problem in English
If you wish to dive deep into this hobby, definitely look into getting a dslr or astrocamera as phone AP is incredibly limited.
However, if you want to get better images using a phone, get something like this that would allow you to connect the phone to the scope.
Gosky Universal Cell Phone Adapter Mount - Compatible Binocular Monocular Spotting Scope Telescope Microscope-Fits almost all Smartphone on the Market -Record The Nature The World
That’s the one I have. Works ok. They have them more money but most I couldn’t see much of an advantage to this one.
Thanks for the info,
If I wanted to use a smartphone as a camera, what is the best way to do it? Money isn't really a concern. I have:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B013D2ULO6/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
but I haven't been able to get a great image. Is there something better? Or is there a better configuration/guide for how to do this properly?

I looked it up ( Gosky Adapter for Phone ).
Most reviews are for using with telescopes or binoculars to look at wildlife or for astronomy.
The 2 things that stopped me from ordering one right now were:
>(1) Review for Microscope: "It's really difficult to get it set up right. On our microscope scope you really need to hold the phone further from the objective than this allows. Nobody in the lab uses it."
So I thought I would order it and see how it does with a microscope to photograph cells, & just return it if the images were bad or adapter was difficult to use. Buuuuuut...
>(2) No Returns: " Terrible design squeezes the sides of the phone right where the buttons are located, making it useless for my OnePlus 5T. Further, the way it clamps onto the eyepiece is pretty weak and will not support a steady setup, even if it doesn't compress your phone's buttons as it does mine. I wanted to return this item but Gosky has a "gotcha" return policy. They never even responded to my return request. STAY AWAY from this bad product and disreputable seller."
I will see if I can find a different one that allows me to return the product though. I'll share if I find one.
Edit: Many of the 3rd party vendors on Amazon (if not all) do not offer free returns or even returns. I contacted Amazon (after reading they their epically long policies) - if you file a form called "A to z form" with your Amazon account, then Amazon sends you a box with prepaid postage so you can send it back, then Amazon refunds you. Customer service also said "usually a phone call to make a complaint, especially if you have Prime, is enough to get Amazon to refund you without having to file a form and send the item back". Coolio!
Thanks! Finding it was quite easy. There are plenty of apps that you can use where you can point your phone at the sky and see what's there. I personally use the Sky Guide app. Then I use the little finder scope to align my telescope with Saturn. I can see that your scope also has a finder scope, so make sure that is lined up/calibrated with the main telescope. I then attach my phone to the eyepiece with something like this. Then I take the video where I let Saturn drift through the frame. And the rest of what I do is described above.
Let me know if you have any other questions :)
For taking pictures of the moon and planets you don't actualy need a tracking mount since the exposure times are so short. Just be sure not to touch the scope while its taking pictures (use a timed shutter for example). You will have to manually re-adjust the position frequently as the Earth rotates though.
What kind of mount and scope do you currently have? An inexpensive tripod mount can be very shaky and even a slight breeze can cause your image to shake. Converting it to Goto won't fix this stability issue. If you have a cheap tripod, consider building your own Dobsonian mount (plenty of tutorials online, I've used stellarium.org to build my scope). Also, are you using a DSLR or your phone camera to take pictures? If your phone, I would reccomend investing in an eyepiece adapter so you aren't trying to hold the phone up to the eyepiece.
I'm no pro, but here are some tips that I've learned through research/trial & error:
Gosky Universal Cell Phone Adapter Mount - Compatible Binocular Monocular Spotting Scope Telescope Microscope-Fits almost all Smartphone on the Market -Record The Nature The World https://www.amazon.com/dp/B013D2ULO6/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_cY.lFb158GJAE
This could help your imaging since a phone mount will let the phone zoom in perfectly on the eye piece without seeing the “edges” of the eyepiece. Hopefully that makes sense.
Also check out r/telescopes there’s plenty of helpful folks there who observe the night sky as a hobby
Sorry it took a while I got home at 12 and I forgot
Here’s the link
Thanks! I use a generic phone mount to hold the phone in place: https://www.amazon.com/Gosky-Universal-Phone-Adapter-Mount/dp/B013D2ULO6
Getting it in the right spot takes some practice and varies with different eyepieces. But a mount like this is necessary for the best phone pictures.
Thanks :) I'm considering making a small youtube channel for microbes soon :D as for the scope: Thats exactly the one I have! I started out by using the attachment, but began to dislike the quality of video, so i hopped on amazon and bought this, which works with any microscope lens, and even telescope!
Cheapest way to do it is to get a decent telescope and one of these adapter Smartphone adapter for telescope
I’ve seen results from these setups and they’re pretty impressive.
I use a phone adapter to keep it still. I use this one: https://www.amazon.ca/Gosky-Universal-Phone-Adapter-Mount/dp/B013D2ULO6/ref=mp_s_a_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1534853469&sr=8-2&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_FMwebp_QL65&keywords=telescope+cell+phone+adapter&dpPl=1&dpID=41riC-uLXTL&ref=plSrch
Only negative I have is that it won't fit large eyepieces like the explore scientific 68 degree eyepieces. But it fits my 25 and 10mm plossls perfectly.
You can pick up something like this and find a telescope in a thrift shop or pick up a beginner one from Amazon. I'll run you $100 on the high end but will dramatically improve your results.
I'm assuming she wants a scope for identification use, with the ability to take pictures when she wants. I was in the same position last year.
If she has a decent cell phone, I'd honestly skip the camera and spend more money on a nicer scope. You can get an adapter like this that'll help her get nice shots through the scope with her phone. Better optics almost always trumps the use of a camera, really. It sucks not being able to ID something because you simply can't see it clearly enough. I'd also really try to find something that doesn't use interchangeable objectives; entomology typically requires a lot of switching mag, so physically removing and replacing the objectives each time could get pretty tedoius.
All that said, I like my Amscope a lot.
I was also thinking of this one - might be better?
I remember seeing some of your posts! Things seem to be going well with your new scope :)
I keep this one in my range bag.

Do you have a cellphone holder like this to help keep the phone square to the eyepiece and steady? If not, I'd get something similar. Without tracking you can't take long exposures or the details will start to "smear." But you can set it up to take many short exposures then use a program to "stack" all those images together to bring out more detail. There's YouTube videos out there too if you prefer videos to reading 😊
Best of luck and clear skies!
I use this cheap attachment from Amazon.
I use the GoSky adapter from Amazon for my S8 - https://www.amazon.com/Gosky-Universal-Phone-Adapter-Mount/dp/B013D2ULO6
I have this for my spotting scope. Works well, once you get everything lined up.
You could probably use a cell phone holder for your telescope. https://www.amazon.com/Gosky-Universal-Phone-Adapter-Mount/dp/B013D2ULO6
Hey, I forgot to mention that you need a cellphone mount such as this one. I have exactly that one, and It works very well.
I currently have this one and it’s very easy to use
I purchased this one on amazon. https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B013D2ULO6?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
Super budget friendly. Takes a couple seconds to properly get everything lined up but works perfectly once it’s all set and gets the job done.
Totally, it’s fun. I purchased this adapter to make it easier. It works pretty ok.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B013D2ULO6/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I’ve had a similar experience with cover slips but it hasn’t seemed to mess with anything. I use my phone up to the eyepiece for video with this type of adapter (can’t vouch for this exact one but mine is similar): https://www.amazon.com/Gosky-Universal-Phone-Adapter-Mount/dp/B013D2ULO6/ref=mp_s_a_1_9?crid=2KU8I82TGYS76&keywords=phone+microscope+attachment&qid=1671492909&sprefix=phone+microscope%2Caps%2C187&sr=8-9
Here’s a sample of video I’ve taken using iPhone XS zoomed in to fill the frame. I did edit the video to increase contrast so this is not straight out of phone but you get the idea: https://youtu.be/G4E08qnAfX4
If youre having issues holding your phone to your NVG get some variant of one of these telescope cellphone mounts for $20. www.amazon.com/Gosky-Universal-Phone-Adapter-Mount/dp/B013D2ULO6/
If you wanna go for a cost-effective solution that looks like shit but gets the job done, here's what we use:
-This hemacytometer. Whatever you do go with, make sure it's got the v-slash (commonly known as neubauer-improved, I think). Maybe get some extra coverslips too (hemacytometers use thicker coverslips than normal microscope slides)
-This microscope. You can get the cheaper one without mechanical stage controls, but you'll hate your life if you do that.
-This adapter so I can use my phone to take pictures through the microscope lens. I had to shim it to get it to fit on the eyepiece, but it works way better than it seems like it should.
-Also make sure you get a pipettor for dilutions (I don't necessarily use the one I linked, but you get the idea). I didn't know they existed when I was first building out our lab and dilutions were a bit of a nightmare for a while.
And then other than that you'll want some cheap 10-15ml test tubes and a test tube rack and you be off to a decent start (and also the Yeast book like a bunch of other people have said). Like I said, it's not pretty, but it was pretty cheap and it works.
One quick suggestion. Combine your phone stabilization with a cell phone adapter for excellent pics and videos. Least expensive (example: Smartphone Adapter Mount) ~$16 and mid-range (Celestron – NexYZ). And a steady but inexpensive Tripod like, VICTIV 74” Camera Tripod ~$35 or Victiv 82 inches Aluminum Tripod ~$77. Second-hand pieces will save more maybe. Hope I didn't state the obvious to you. Always keep a Bino set on hand on observation nights. Clear skies to you.
Just a generic one - https://www.amazon.com/Gosky-Universal-Phone-Adapter-Mount/dp/B013D2ULO6 Seems to do the job.

And sometimes I use my canon EOS with t ring but usually just my s20.
This will get you there. I use a cheapish camera tripod. My phone is a Galaxy U 21

We have the different sizes of these and they work pretty well through each scope, spotting scope, telescope and pair of binoculars we’ve used em on. Your mileage may vary.
Bought this microscope https://www.bresser.de/en/Microscopes-Magnifiers/BRESSER-Researcher-ICD-LED-20x-80x-Stereo-Microscope.html for 205€ on amazon. Plus this adapter for my smartphone https://www.amazon.com/Gosky-Universal-Phone-Adapter-Mount/dp/B013D2ULO6 . For the lighting I just used the included light and a curved up sheet of translucent paper to even the light.

A mount like this one:
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B013D2ULO6?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
It's not perfect but it works well enough for my amateur scope (AWB Onesky). Here's some photos, taken on my 2XL and not processed at all besides by Google's algorithms:
Jupiter and Saturn side-by-side, during last year's "double planet" event
It's definitely not perfect, and I'm really curious if the P6 pro can get better clarity on the planets especially since it's really difficult to get them to line up without smudging with just the 2XL camera.

Thanks - generic GoSky phone mount from amazon: https://www.amazon.com/Gosky-Universal-Phone-Adapter-Mount/dp/B013D2ULO6
you can film through binocs with this
I got one of these. It helps a whole ton.
Align your phone's camera with the eye piece. Or just get one of these https://www.amazon.com/Gosky-Universal-Phone-Adapter-Mount/dp/B013D2ULO6/ref=sr_1_3?dchild=1&keywords=microscope+phone+adapter&qid=1619023595&sr=8-3
I too just got in to microscopy. I agree about not doing usb microscope camera. You have to spend hundreds of dollars getting something relative descent. I just got a used medical student microscope. I attach my cellphone to an eye piece with:
I get decent, amateur results in my opinion. I've learned that:
1) It wil tend to rotate. I need to setup some port of stop to keep the image square/out of the way of my second eyepiece. 2) I think a 3 year old phone has a better camera than most entry grade usb microscope cameras. 3) It's much easier to use a simpler camera phone. I have a Pixel 4 which has 2 front cameras, it does not well here. As you zoom with camera, it will keep switching lenses and us frustrating. A slightly older iPhone with single front lens works out much better.
Example capture with that mount and older iPhone:
I don't have one myself, but you'd want something like this: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B013D2ULO6/?coliid=I2FGGZ9988TRTX
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B013D2ULO6/
I use this to capture pics (using phone camera). Highly recommended!!
Light pollution shouldn't be an issue but just to give you an example I live in a bortle 7 zone so light pollution is present lol and I can clearly see Jupiter and its moons, same for Saturn. Best thing to do when there's light pollution is to go where there is none but if you can't there are filters but it doesn't work as well. It does the job well tho but such filters get pricey (some around 200$).
If you want to take some pictures of course you can try putting it near the eyepiece I do that all the time but you can't get the details (example Jupiter's clouds). You can get some little adapter for your phone that you just attach on your telescope so you don't make it shake thus messing up the picture. Some are 100$ but I found one on amazon.com except it ain't available right now but you might have a chance with amazon.ca. It's around 30$ but I saw some for 10$ on the .com one but always keep in mind that if it's really cheap it might not be as good. In the futur if you want to take better pics or even some deep sky imaging you can buy a camera for that except they're worth around 1k. Fun part with those is thay you can attach some adapter to it that comes with thr package and it lets you use it both for 2" and 1.25" eyepiece holes. Only con I'd see for that is that you always gotta have a laptop with you so you can power it and control it.
I'm in Canada so sadly I can't help much since I don't know any online stores for telescopes in the USA. However you can look for Celestron and Sky-Watcher which can have some telescopes around your price range. For example Sky-Watcher's dobsonians can be around that price range if you go small but you won't see much with that so might as well go with a newtonian or something.
Good job! You can get a smartphone adapter for $20 on Amazon to make pictures easier. I got this one, it works well: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B013D2ULO6/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_fab_CWNGFbJ3DXBSA
Awesome, thank you so much! Is there any extra accessories you would recommend? I've seen this moon filter suggested to help with clarity. Is it a necessity?
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B013D2ULO6/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_fab_oULCFb8TD23NR
And also is this a good brand for a phone mount?
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B013D2ULO6/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_fab_LWLCFbX8RD47H
I use this telescope phone mount to take pictures like these
So there are three ways to do it. You can buy a cheap mount for your iPhone. I’ve actually been impressed with the photos some people have been able to get just with a mount and an iPhone but if you really want to get professional level images you’ll have to get one of the next two options. Get a DSLR with a t-ring (that screws into the lens of the camera) and t-adapter which then screws into the t-ring and gives you a little tube that you put directly into the focuser of the telescope just like you would with any eyepiece. The last and best option (imo) is to get a dedicated astrophotography camera which usually comes with a t-adapter and slides right into the focuser. It runs through your computer and is not only cheaper than DSLRs, but will get you your best images.
I use this mount and a 2x Barlow with 10mm lens. I also zoom in on the phone around 50%

Rock on! I'm sure you've heard of some of these before, but if I can offer some advice as I started about 6 months ago:
Media: I'd really recommend checking out the Journey to the Microcosmos youtube channel, as they give you the names of every microbe they show. Their microbiologist, James, has an instagram called Jam and Germs where he also posts frequently. There are also websites that help a lot with identifying different organisms, like Micrographia's gallery of microbes.
Identification: my advice for gstting a good ID of any miceobe is to learn the different archetypes of these organisms that can differentiate what you're looking at. Take note of whether it is a cilliate or flagellate, whether it has a stalk or if it swims or crawls, and see how they move. Odds are, if you can google "stalked ciliate that retracts" you'll get a better result, as it is more descriptive (that was describing a Vorticella by the way)
General: you can also really affect your microscopy sessions by adjusting what you use. For instance, concave slides allow for some bridging macroorganisms and more depth in your samples, however things will then swim in and out if focus more. Flat slides hold less material and smaller organisms, but the tradeoff is that they'll stay in focus far better and you'll be able to focus on what's going on better.
Also keep in mind that your samples can exist in a small jar so that you don't have to go out to a lake every time you want to sample. Just get some substrate, algae, pebbles and detritus and a small layer of water for them to swim freely in (but also small enough that you can easily access the substrate with a pipette to sample the water floor). Also keep in mind that if this jar is translucent, giving it sunlight near a window will help immensely in keeping the microbes alive because they, as well as the algae, will be able to photosynthesize!
For recording, if you are using your phone, I strongly recommend this phone-eyepiece mount that I use from amazon for about 15$. It outperforms my objective camera built for microscopy and I can adjust the settibgs, iso, and brightness/effects live, on top of being able to snapchat my sessions, Haha. You can see the image quality on my profile :)
I'm sorry if this comment is massive, but I hope it helps!
Based on the shadow wobbles if you're doing this with your phone you might appreciate this cell phone adapter, it's cheap and does the trick.
You should post this on /r/telescopes
But if you can scrape a little more money then the AWB Onesky 130 has got really good reviews.
A universal smartphone mount can be got for around 20 bucks
Thanks! I’m using this phone mount . It took quite a while to figure it out but I’m liking it now.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B013D2ULO6/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
This should help you out oc!
I'm using a Orion Maksutov Cassegrain 90mm, https://www.telescope.com/Orion-Apex-90mm-Maksutov-Cassegrain-Telescope/p/9820.uts on a dobsonian mount, it's small enough to fit in my backback but has powerful magnification (has a 1250mm focal length).
I use a t-adapter to mount my camera right to the scope, no eye piece is used. it's called "prime focus" mode, it's simple and the light from the telescope falls directly on the film (or image sensor if youre using digital). Best way to go by far in re image quality.
HOWEVER, to get started, I think there is no better way than using ANY scope you can buy, and using your iphone/android with a camera mount: https://www.amazon.com/Gosky-Universal-Phone-Adapter-Mount/dp/B013D2ULO6/ref=zg_bs_3426051_1?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=YWC66GBKMH57CV86FY3W this approach is called "afocal imaging" which is fancy speak for "holding your phone against the eye piece"
Digital astrophotography is 10x easier than film astrophotography because you get instant feedback and can make adjustments on the fly. I do film because I love the "light falling on film" aspect of it. But I started out on digital and 99% of my astro-gear is digital.
re which telescope: really pick whatever you can find, and don't go to large. A 90mm reflector or reflector will be able to see the SAME exact things as a 135mm reflector...only REALLY large scopes can see very far into the universe, and large scopes require large 5 thousand dollar tripods to track the objects correctly for imaging...so it's all a moo point
any of these scopes + your phone would make a great set up: https://www.amazon.com/s?k=90mm+telescope&ref=nb_sb_noss_2
oh and check out craiglist, soooo many people get into telescopes for a month then sell them later dirt cheap.
love discussing this stuff, dm me if you have any q's
TL;DR: 220 for scope plus a t-adapter
I've had a lot of luck with the GoSky adapter.

Generic phone mount, reasonably priced
I’m so sorry that I am unable to remember the seller! It has “Felidio” on it and this looks like it. I suspect it has a variety of sellers.
I have this one from Gosky, but I didn't check the specs. It doesn't fit my 2" focuser, (I need this one) and I have yet to try it on my binoculars, but it's very well made for a cheap phone holder. Made of metal; quite heavy, too.
Appears to be this one.
Yep! Although it's much easier to buy a holder for your phone like this one.
