I don't choose to be offended by everything. Is every single story about freed slaves ever told a direct parallel to the Atlantic slave trade?
Even better, how about the gith? Enslaved by the illithids, carried out a successful revolt, and killed their way to their freedom. Is that automatically a hamfisted attempt at ripping off the Haitian revolution because the stories have similar plot points? How about the Dragonborn Rebellion?

Do I think WotC was so incredibly stupid as to try to use the transatlantic slave trade as a setting? No, I don't. At best it's an accidental similarity, which doesn't deserve the backlash it's getting.
