It's one thing to have a cat pawing at a cable, another entirely for a cat to chew through a cable (power or otherwise). One of my cats is constantly trying to gnaw on any and every rubberized item. My solution was bitter apple. Now she thinks twice before chewing a cable.
Bundle your cables and protect them with wire loom.

It'll help mitigate the issue of damaging your cables, you could also spray them with bitterant to help discourage your cat from putting it in thier mouth

Grannick's Bitter Apple Deterrent
I spray this on anything my cats like to chew on that they shouldn't - plants, wires, etc. Works like a charm.
Tthere's a spray called "Bitter Apple". I believe that it's made from natural ingredients; probably with apple as the main ingredient, judging from the name. It was originally marketed as a deterrent for dogs; to keep them from chewing on things. It works really well with cats too, though. Actually, I just checked Amazon and they have a version specifically for cats now:

You should definitely be able to teach him tricks. How readily he learns them will just depend on his personality. The process is really not much different than teaching tricks to dogs, but a dog's major goal in life is to make it's owner happy which is one of the reasons they pick up tricks so quickly. Cats are less inclined to please us with every breath, so you'll have to make the process of learning tricks fun and rewarding for them.

The product page has many other suggestions on it as well.
You'd have to read the instructions, its been a long time since i needed to use it. here's a common one, there are also cord protectors for pets
A kitten, like a human child, needs to teeth and bite as teeth erupt and mature. No biting = problems, so you will not be able to stop it. You can redirect it, spray things he should not bite with this.
And bite problem assistance
